A/N: okay so I know I said that I would do just one more chapter, but I might split this up into two or three shorter ones with more commentary than action.
Oh, and please forgive me if anyone seems a little OOC. They never really got the chance to react, since they were in the middle of a battle, so I had to improvise.
Remember all that preparation I did for Hiccup, in case he exploded? You're about to find out whether he needed it (and if it's for the reason you think)...*muahahahaha*
(Sorry I'm a bit of a dork)
"I'm feeling very conflicted here.." Hiccup mumbled, scrunching his face and drawing confused looks.
"Why's that?" Stoick asked, chuckling at his son.
"I've got a cute girl on my lap, and another restraining my arms, but this is making me unbelievably anxious." His father simply snorted, not offering support whatsoever.
Stoick: What… Hiccup!
"You're worse than me! Just- just stay put!" OHiccup pleaded, eyebrows raised in incredulity at Stoick.
"Hiccup...it'll be ok..." Valka reassured, not wanting to scare the younger Vikings.
Stoick: Come on, Gobber!
Gobber: Okay, change of plan!
"I can practically smell the danger..." Ruffnut sniffed for emphasis. "Oh, wait. It's just Tuffnut."
"Hush, babe, this is getting intense..." Snotlout waved a hand at her in dismissal, before his eyes widened. What did he just do...?
"You're lucky you're right, otherwise you'd be dead." The girl threatened. Deiya snickered, rolling her eyes and getting ready for the big scene.
Drago: No dragon can resist the Alpha's command. So, he who controls the Alpha controls them all.
"Oh...no...Hiccup, I'm so sorry..." Fishlegs turned to OHiccup, after piecing together a basic idea of what was about to happen.
[Drago commands the Alpha to take control of Toothless, who starts writhing.]
Hiccup growled up at Drago, uneasy and furious. If the Astrids hadn't been all over him, he would've been fighting his way towards the screen. "What is that-"
"Hiccup!" His mom interrupted, pale in the face and trying not to laugh.
"-doing to Toothless?!"
The other dragon riders were shocked by the fact that he'd cursed, but they were every bit as intrigued about how this worked.
Valka through the young version of her son a classic 'mom glare' before softening a bit and replying. "The Alpha, he- he can make dragons do things against their will. Just keep that in mind- oi! Would you stop bristling over there?! You're gonna set a bad example!" The woman turned to reprimand the older version of her boy, who was tending in his seat at the man. Stoick kept himself distanced, laughing at how well she handled two Hiccups when she had so recently been in touch with none.
"Yes ma'am." OHiccup quickly straightened, respect for his mother calming him down a bit. "I still don't like him, though."
"-as you've made quite apparent."
"I love her already!" Astrid laughed, smile wide as she watched the only person who seemed able to tame Hiccup. Valka gave her a small bow, appropriate for her little performance, and they all returned to the movie with untimely grins.
Hiccup: Toothless? T-t-Toothless, you okay, bud? What's going on?
"Why isn't he running? Like, c'mon. At least think of a better plan. Don't just stand in his range of fire!" Tuffnut yelled at the others, unaware OHiccup was wondering the exact same thing.
Drago: Witness true strength: the strength of will over others. In the face of it, you are nothing!
[The Alpha takes control of Toothless.]
"Ooh, I know that look...very common in u domesticated...dragons..." Fishlegs commented, wishing he'd never spoken up. Since he'd already started, he decided he would finish his observation. "You can tell by the dilated pupils."
Hiccup: Ah, what did he just tell you? Toothless, come on. What's the matter with you? No, no, no come on, what are you doing? Knock it off! Stop! Snap out of it!
The collective fear of the riders could almost be seen. OAstrid threw her boyfriend a pitying look, not realizing from the distance she'd been at just how traumatizing this was. She tightened her hold, watching her younger self anchor herself down on Hiccup's lap in a panic of understanding.
[Stoick runs to Hiccup.]
Hiccup: Toothless, no! Toothless! Don't!
"It's not Toothless..." Snotlout commented, hand on his forehead as though this was too much to bear. Ruff's hands raised to her mouth, mouthing out prayers to the gods. Tuff placed an arm around her shoulder in comfort, eyes following the action intently. Valka hugged her son, clinging to the leather he wore in hopes that it would keep him safe. Stoick prayed that he made it in time; it would all be okay if he knew Hiccup was safe. That was his main priority, no matter what.
Hiccup was starting to struggle, the only noise filling the scared silence. His dad wasn't about to die because of him. Him and his stupid plan. His stupid mistakes; such as letting that Night Fury live in the first place-
No! He had to remember it wasn't Toothless' fault. But still...
Hiccup snapped himself out of his conflict, watching Deiya glide over to make sure his father was okay. No man should ever need to watch himself die, no matter how stoic.
Stoick: Hiccup!
Hiccup: STOP!
"Babe..." OAstrid whimpered, shocked at the hopelessness of OHiccup's pleas. Astrid gaped, not sure of how to process anything. This wasn't Hiccup. This wasn't Toothless. Nothing seemed right.
Stoick: Son!
Hiccup: DAD! NO!
[Stoick jumps in front of Hiccup and gets shot, dying instantly.]
Everyone removed their helmets, lowering their eyes as they gave silent respects. Stoick himself watched in interest, feeling slightly guilty by his excitement that this would mean Hiccup was left in charge. Oh, no- speaking of Hiccup, they all looked over to see the young boy twisting like he'd been stabbed in the heart.
"No! Hiccup, calm down!" Astrid's words slurred as she bumped around.
"Hiccup! A little help?!" OAstrid tried, but to no avail; he was cringing in his own seat, obviously horrified by the events and his past actions. The other teens were sitting back, not used to Hiccup breaking down. Deiya signaled for Kit and Kat to leave the others, so that they could make sure Toothless was okay.
"Please, let me up! Please, Astrid..." He stopped struggling, and his voice was far from the malice they'd all expected. No one knew what to do, until OHiccup finally spoke up.
"Let him up."
"What?! What if this is a trick?!" Snotlout scoffed. Fishlegs and the twins nodded, expressing their mutual concern.
"I know myself better than anyone else. Well, maybe third best? It depends on the day really-"
"Hiccup, babe, focus."
"Sorry. There's no way to fix this with a dose of sarcasm."
"Hiccup, are you being your own therapist? Ah, that's after your time...never mind, proceed." Deiya momentarily interrupted, pondering their conversation while keeping an eye on the younger Hiccup.
"There's no way I'm going to be able to make myself okay with this...unless I get the chance to make amends." His already serious voice dropped to a soft tone. He offered a hand to Astrid, who accepted it with a blush as he helped her up. OAstrid gave a skeptical glance towards Valka, and the heartbroken Stoick, before releasing their son.
In a bolt, he was beside Stoick. Hiccup hugged him with every fiber of his being, tears in his vision and every apology he could muster slipping through his lips. The man simply pat his head, accepting the trembling remorse and reassuring his boy. After he had returned to his seat, shivering from his peers' stares and the gravity of the situation, Deiya looked over to his older self. She nodded gently, before motioning to Stoick. OHiccup sheepishly made his way to his confused father, before enveloping him in a similar hug.
"Are you crying?" Tuffnut asked Snotlout, who was wiping his nose on the back of his hand.
"Honestly? Yes."
"Oh. Good to know I'm not the only one..."
Deiya passed around some tissues, smiling at the lot as they settled down. Hiccup's straight face perked up as Astrid chose the seat directly next to him; with a few seconds of courage flowing through him, he pulled her back up onto his lap.
"OTP..." Deiya whispered at the blushing Hofferson and grinning Haddock.
Hiccup: No. DAD!
Valka: Stoick!
Hiccup: Dad… no, you…
[Valka checks for a heartbeat but hears nothing.]
"Oh, Val...I'm so sorry you had to see that." Stoick shook his head, red beard shaking.
Hiccup: No.
[The Bewilderbeast turns away and stops controlling Toothless.]
Hiccup: No, no, no.
Suddenly OHiccup groaned. "Ooh, not a fan of this next part."
The other future Vikings nodded in shy agreement; there were few things that out Hiccup over the edge, and it wasn't pretty when it happened.
"Oh, please tell me you didn't-" Hiccup threatened his older self, grimacing.
"Unfortunately, I may have...slightly...overreacted."
[Toothless sees Hiccup grieving and goes to Stoick's body.]
Hiccup: No! Get away from him! Go on, get out of here! Get away!
"You didn't..." Fishlegs asked, the young Vikings all gasping at the treatment of the dragon. Hiccup bristled, and Astrid jumped off him in surprise.
"You are so dead."
"Oh no." OHiccup's voice was small, embarrassed and terrified as he ran up the aisle away from his younger self.
The Astrids looked to each other, not sure whether to laugh or help. They decided to just let the two Hiccups take care of it.
Deiya quickly called to the Elitists to move, so they could settle things in the hall. Once outside, the room quieted as indistinct yelling was heard. Eventually it settled, and the two walked in without any physical scratches noticeable.
"Aw, what? I was hoping the big one would come back with at least a black eye..." Ruffnut whined, snickering.
"Do you even know me? He just yelled at me a bit, I couldn't fight to save my life!" OHiccup laughed, not believing that they would actually consider fighting a possibility.
"That's comforting, considering you're about to go into a battle..." Stoick grumbled, as both versions of his son took their seats. Astrid didn't even wait this time, hopping right back up onto Hiccup's lap as if it were the norm.
Valka: It's not his fault. You know that.
"Clearly not." Snotlout smirked.
[The Alpha takes control of the dragons again.]
Valka: Good dragons under the control of bad people...
Snotlout: Wait, don't go!
Valka: ...do bad things.
"No kidding..." Fishlegs and the others huffed, upset as their dragons left them.
"So, are we going to take care of Stoick? Or is he just kinda going to lay there...?" Tuffnut asked, causing unamused groans. "And does this mean Hiccup is chief now?"
Silence.
"May-be..." Hiccup rubbed his neck, blushing in obvious discomfort.
"That means Stoick will be able to see you as chief. Weird." Astrid pitched in, excited at the prospect.
[Toothless tries to fly. Drago rides him.]
Drago: Come on! Gather the men and meet me at Berk!
"Woah! Party foul!" Snotlout yelled in outrage at Drago. "Seriously though, this guy's the worst."
Hiccup: Toothless!
Astrid gasped, turning to her boyfriend's older self. "Odin, Hiccup! Did you just snarl?!"
"May-be..."
"Oh for the love of- are you five?" The older Astrid asked, laughing almost hysterically.
"I find it amusing that he's either got the emotional range of a spoon, or he's the most dramatic Viking on Berk..." Deiya added, grinning.
Valka shrugged, joining in sincere Hiccups were laughing too hard to respond. "Sometimes it feels like I've been gone for only 4 years, as opposed to 20..."
Valka: No, don't.
[Drago and his Bewilderbeast head towards Berk, while his men prepare to sail.]
"Oh, this is so weird! Stoick's about to see his own funeral!" Fishlegs looked practically sick, considering the strange circumstance.
"I'll be interested in hearing what you all had to say..." Stoick eyed his son in particular.
"Hmm, that reminds me...Jordan, can you go and have Kit and Kat bring Toothless in? He has a right to see this, too." They waited for the dragon to come back, before continuing.
[Stoick's ship drifts out to sea. Snotlout retrieves two arrows. Gobber hands a bow and arrow to Hiccup during his eulogy for Stoick.]
Gobber: May the Valkyries welcome you and lead you through Odin's great battlefield. May they sing your name with love and fury so that we may hear it rise from the depths of Valhalla and know that you have taken your rightful place at the table of kings. For a great man has fallen, a warrior, a chieftain, a father, a friend.
"Poor Gobber..." Astrid sighed, nods from everyone in the room showing their agreement.
"Ah, it's just one less headache to worry about..." OHiccup teased with his father, who raised an eyebrow in reply.
"Oh, you're one to talk. He'll have Valhalla on Midgard when one of your 'genius' inventions finally blows up in your face..." OAstrid snorted, backing up Stoick. Toothless snickered along, in his dragon-ish sort of way.
"Traitors! What is this mutiny!" OHiccup could barely get through his sentence before he was cracking up.
"We become real dorks..." Hiccup whispered to Astrid.
"Yeah, but honestly we aren't much different now." Astrid whispered right back; he rolled his eyes at her, prompting a light punch to the arm.
[Hiccup shoots a flaming arrow to light Stoick's ship. The others follow suit.]
"Good aiming, son." Stoick commented, a pleased look on his face.
"Um, thanks?"
Hiccup: I'm sorry, Dad. [All the dragon riders wipe away tears.] I'm not the chief that you wanted me to be, and I'm not the peace keeper I thought I was. I don't know…
"You don't know? That's pretty much me, like, 90% of the time." Ruffnut curled a piece of her hair around her finger, seemingly uninterested in the funeral. It then seemed to dawn on her that she was supposed to be paying attention, and she straightened out immediately.
Valka: You came early into this world, you were such a wee thing. So frail, so fragile, I feared you wouldn't make it. But your father, he never doubted. He always said you would become the strongest of them all, and he was right. You have the heart of a chief and the soul of a dragon. Only you can bring our worlds together. That is who you are, son.
"Lovely, Mrs. Haddock..." Fishlegs gushed. Valka thanked him softly, before placing a hand on her husband's.
Hiccup: I, ah... I was so afraid of becoming my dad mostly because I thought I never could. How do you become someone that great, that brave, that selfless? I guess you can only try. A chief protects his own. We're going back.
"Atta boy!"
"Finally! We get to see some more action!"
"I hope we get to blow more stuff up!"
"Yeah, lots of stuff!"
"I just want my Meatlug back!"
"As long as Hiccup doesn't get into any more trouble..."
"But how...?" Hiccup added after his friends had finished. "We don't have any- oh..." He grinned as he understood the plan.
Tuffnut: Uh, with what?
Ruffnut: Uh, he took all the dragons.
"He did, though, right? Unless I missed something..." Snotlout found it hard to believe the twins were right.
Hiccup: Not all of them.
Deiya beamed at the screen, increasing everyone's excitement with her own enthusiasm. "It's showtime..."
A/N: And there we go! I was originally going to have Hiccup freak. out. However, it seemed too much for me, so I went back to change it. If anyone is interested in an alternate ending, lent me know. I hope this was alright...
The next chapter will probably be the last of the movie. If you guys want, I can have the riders (and possibly Elitists) stay in the theater to talk for a bit. Let me know what you want me to work on after this! There might be a sequel where they watch the first movie...I'm not sure if the younger Vikings would pay a visit, but I do know that Valka is NOT going to be happy with how the village (especially Stoick) is treating her baby...
Bye! Happy Father's Day to all who apply; might do a one shot to celebrate.
