Chapter 337

.

Eve was half-awake, no idea what time it was, when the creaming started. It wasn't yet sunrise, but Eve could see enough. There were planes, but no explosions or bullets. People were writhing in pain, coughing and shaking as they fell down. Eve couldn't see the gas, all she coul do was hold her breath as the planes passed. Others also tried this, most failed. Each person had to figure out through reflex when they could breath again. Eve wanted to help these people, save their lives, but there was nothing she could do. She wished she could at least close her eyes, not see their pain. But Eve had to keep her eyes open, know when the planes came and went. Eve silently prayed for it to be over soon.

Even with all she'd seen since 2/4, Eve had never been around this many dying all at once. She could see explosions in the distance. These planes were now dropping bombs on theiir escape routes. They wouldn't drop bombs on the Arks, only nerve gas and bullets that couldn't hurt these mountains. Eve didn't think she could make it out of this alive. It was either stay and die from gas and/or bullets, or try to flee and be blown up. At least here she wouldn't be burned alive, but becoming a vegetable was a distinct possibility. Then Eve saw other explosions, near the Ark. Likely on the other side of the mountain. Amazing how she could see them from this far away. But then there were explosions in the sky, the planes were exploding mid-air. From what the crowd could see, some planes were actually fighting each other. Flaming debris was falling down. It was dangerous, but the fire gave off the light to avoid it. Then the fighting stopped, it was over. Eve could breath again. A relief, although the smell of burning flesh soon became nautious. Despite everything Eve once again survived. She was beginning to feel like a cockroach.
