When we arrived, I was surprised that we were sneaking in the back way. After all, we had dressed up to the nines and we had arrived in a limo.

'Paparazzi is at the front.' He explained, as if reading my thoughts. 'We need to avoid any photographs where possible.'

Troy knocked on the fire exit, and it was opened by Amber. She glared at me.

'So let me get this straight. I have to wear a waistcoat and trousers and Sky gets to look a million bucks. Brilliant.' She frowned, stepping aside to let us in. We were in the kitchen, which seemed empty apart from the savants on our side, all dressed as waitors and waitresses.

'Boss, the other waitors are coming!' Erik, one of our savants, whispered. 'You'd better get into the main room.'

Troy grabbed my hand and whisked us out of the kitchen, through a door I hadn't seen before. We ended up in a dark corridor. I squinted and, down the other end of the corridor, I could see people arriving, walking into the main room.

'How are we going to get in?' I whispered, looking around us.

'There's another door.' Troy whispered in response, leading me up the corridor. 'It's on the left somewhere.' We reached a door. 'I'm sure it's this one.' He opened the door slowly and pulled me inside. We found ourselves stood next to the toilet facilities. 'See.' He grinned at me. A party-goer walked out of the powder room, so we followed her into the main hall. My jaw dropped. It was a huge ballroom, which looked like something out of a Disney film. There was a winding staircase, which tumbled down to the dancefloor. Chandeliers hung like teardrops from the ceiling. There was a stage with rich, red velvet curtains, and a jazz band were playing. There were round tables covered with white table cloths with matching chairs, although I couldn't help noticing that the only food and drink available were being brought around my the waist-coat-covered staff members.

'Champagne?' Zed offered with a grin as he walked over to us.

'Please.' Troy and I chorused. We each took a glass and then Zed disappeared back through the crowd.

'He does that surprisingly well.' Troy laughed as we sipped our champagne. He turned to face me. 'You're awfully quiet.'

'I'm taking it all in.' I smiled. 'I feel like Cinderella at the ball. Just... slightly more kick-ass.'

He clinked his champagne glass against mine. 'You look like Cinderella too. You look so beautiful.'

'Not so bad yourself.' And I meant it. He looked like James Bond in his Tuxedo. More security guards entered the room, standing by each of the doors. I gulped when I noticed that some of them even had guns. I glanced over and realised that three of them were on our side. This made me relax a little.

'Hello!' A voice boomed from behind us. We turned around.

A large gentleman with a receeding hairline was stood behind us, accompanied by a large lady in a red sequinned gown.

'Hello.' Troy smiled, charmingly, holding out his hand. 'I'm Zac Martin, I own the oil rigs down in Texas. This is my girlfriend, Marie.'

'Pleased to meet you both.' He smiled, warmly, shaking Troy's hand and then kissing mine. 'I'm Jonathan Brown, I own the Make a Wish Charity. Thank you so much for coming to our event this evening.'

'We wouldn't want to be anywhere else.' I smiled my sweetest smile.

'You two make a very good-looking couple if you don't mind me saying.' He chuckled.

'Thank you.' Troy laughed.

'I'll catch up with you both later.' He patted Troy on the back and disappeared, his plump companion following him.

'This is a charity event?' I whispered, my eyes wide.

'Don't worry, I'll make sure we leave a donation from Zac Martin and Marie Gold.'

'You did your research.'

'I had to.' He held out his hand for me as a waitor took my empty champagne glass. 'Shall we dance?'

He led me to the dancefloor, where a few couples were already happily dancing the night away. Out of the dancers, I did realise that we were the youngest. Troy placed a hand on my hip and took my hand with his other one and we danced to the cover of 'Fly me to the moon.'

'Fly me to the moon

Let me play among the stars

Let me see what spring is like

On Jupiter and Mars

In other words, hold my hand

In other words, baby , kiss me'

He twirled me around and was able to spin me out. He was a surprisingly good dancer and I wondered if he had had lessons. He twirled me around so that my back was against his chest, and then he spun me outwards, before pulling me back in again. I laughed, happy to be enjoying the moment. Troy kissed my lips softly as the song ended and I smiled back at him. When his face moved backwards, I noticed that he was watching someone over my shoulder.

'Is he here?' I whispered.

'Yes.' He replied with a smile.

'When?'

'Later.' He kissed my cheek. 'Come on, let's go and make that donation.'

The total amount of money raised was announced at various intervals in the night, and a huge auction took place to raise even more money. People were auctioning off things for amounts of money I could only ever dream of; yachts for thousands of dollars, new apartments in the city for millions, holidays to private villas.

'I will take you one day.' Troy whispered with a smile. That was when the president moved towards the bathroom. 'Show time.'

We left the ballroom through a different door, trying to appear subtle. We stood in the doorway as the president slipped into the bathroom, which was being guarded by a security guard. Troy looked over at me and nodded. It was my turn to make the next move. I walked over to the guard, fluttering my eyelashes and smiling sweetly.

'Well hello there.'

'The ladies' bathroom is over there, miss.' The security guard replied, keeping his face straight.

You're needed in the ballroom.

His eyes widened. 'Excuse me miss, I'm needed in the ballroom.' He disappeared back down the corridor. One of our guys, in his security uniform, snuck over to take the place in front of the door. Troy came up behind me, pushing me into the bathroom. The bathroom had leather couches, light-bordered mirrors and white toilet cubicles.

'What is she doing here?'

My trail of thought was broken by a bodyguard, his hand over his gun. Shit.

You are feeling very sleepy. Just sit down on that couch and have a quick nap. The president will be safe.

The bodyguard looked at me and blinked. Had it worked? He yawned. 'Excuse me. I'm just going to have a rest over there.' He sank into the couch and closed his eyes.

We quickly checked the other cubicles, and when we were satisfied that we were alone, we turned the lock on the inside of the bathroom door. Total privacy. Perfect. It was now over to Troy to talk the president round. The President walked out of his cubicle and washed his hands. That was when he saw our reflections in the mirror and turned around. His eyes widened and he looked at his bodyguard, before looking at us again.

'What did you do?! Did you kill him?'

'Of course not, Mr President.' Troy replied, smoothly. 'We aren't here to hurt anyone if we don't have to. After all, this is a charity event.'

He looked over at me. 'You're not here to use the bathroom, are you?'

'Of course not.' Troy grinned. 'We've come to just have a chat, that's all. Take a seat.' He nodded towards the vacant couch.

'No.'

Take a seat.

He looked at me, eyes wide, and sat down. 'How did you do that?'

'That's what we're here to talk about, Mr President.' I said with a smile.

'What are you?' He looked scared, afraid.

'We are savants.' Troy said, casually. 'Nothing to be afraid of to wipe that look off your face.'

'Savants?'

'We are a superhuman race. We have special abilities. Some of us can read minds, some of us can see the future. But you know that don't you? You've been experimenting on us for years.'

The President glared at us. 'Because you people are not safe.'

'Not safe? We're no different, you and I.'

'You are.' The president growled. 'You're freaks, aliens.'

'I really wish you wouldn't say that.' Troy, sighed. 'There's no need to be so goddamn difficult. You are the reason that many of us live in fear, that we hide our abilities.'

'You should be locked up.'

'No, you should be locked up.' Troy crouched down in front of him. 'It's funny, isn't it? You told everyone to vote for you so you could fight for equality.'

'Equal pay for women and same-sex marriages.' The President responded. 'Not magic freaks.'

'It's such a pity.' He turned to face me. 'Now.'

I concentrated on the President's mind as hard as I could, blocking out all of his thoughts. He winced in return and held his hands up to his head.

'What is she doing?' He growled.

'Stopping your negative thoughts.' Troy smirked.

'Make her stop.' He groaned, wincing.

I stopped.

'You are going to tell the world about us and you are going to make sure they are not afraid, that they do not have the same negative attitude as you.' Troy said, his voice bitter.

'And what if I don't?'

'We will take everyone you love and we will fight until we are leading this country. I have an army and it's growing. We are more powerful than you could ever imagine.'

'No.' He croaked. 'I won't.'

'Fine.' He looked at me and gave me a nod. The signal. I looked at the President, at his afraid face. It made it hard to concentrate. I didn't want to hurt anyone. I closed my eyes and looked deep into his mind. He was thinking about the First Lady, his wife, and his children. About what would happen to them.

In your press conference tomorrow, you will tell the world all about savants and their wonderful powers. You will explain to the world that they are to have equal rights and anyone harming them will face death row. When we leave this bathroom you will forget who it was that visited you tonight.

The President's eyes widened and his bodyguard, spluttered, waking up. 'Are you done yet, sir?'

'Yes.' The President replied, looking confused.

Troy and I left the bathroom. Our work was done. We found the nearest fire exit and left the building. Mission accomplished.

Our flight left Las Vegas at 5am. We had gone back to our hotel, changed and checked out, heading straight for the airport. Troy had a big smile on his face, making it hard not to smile back. His plan had worked for now, but had I done enough? We were welcomed back with cheers from our savant army, although we didn't stay around for long. We were exhausted. Troy led me back to our living quarters, although this time was different. We didn't go into separate rooms. Instead, I followed him into his bedroom and slept in his comfy four-poster bed alongside him.

I was woken up by a gentle kiss on my lips. Troy looked down at me, a smile playing on his lips. 'Hey.'

'Hey.' I replied, half-asleep. 'What time is it?'

'It's nearly time for the President's press release.' He smiled. 'I thought you might like to watch it in the office with me.'

'Sure.' I replied, getting up. I put on my black leather skirt, black shirt and black heels, tied my hair into a ponytail and then followed Troy to his office.

The savants who had accompanied us to Vega were all ready seated around the conference table in their comfy chairs when we arrived. They smiled at me as I took my seat and Troy turned on the large screen, changing the channel.

'Coming up,' a newsreporter said, 'the President makes an announcement about caring for sick children. His press conference is live in five minutes.'

Troy took his seat beside me and squeezed my hand. The conversations soon stopped when the camera shot switched to a stage and microphone. The President walked onto the stage, a big smile on his face. He looked so different to how he had looked the previous night, in his suit with a huge smile on his face.

'Good afternoon United States of America. When I organised this press conference, I only had one announcement, but now I have two. Last night, I attended a charity event for the Make a Wish foundation. We raised, in total, 1.5 million dollars.' He paused for the applause. 'This will help hundreds of sick children recover and it will improve their quality of life. Hospitals will soon be recieving funding to allow them to care for more sick children and will provide families with the support they need. They are our future so we must help them now.' He paused again for more applause. 'Now, recently, I became aware that we are not alone on this planet. There are people out there, superhumans, with special abilities, abilities which can be used to help us. Some can read minds, others can see the future.' The press gasped. 'These people have been hiding for years, but I feel that we need to treat them as our equals. They look the same as us. We see them in our supermarkets, in our classrooms, at our parties and now we will know about their abilities. Savants, you no longer need to live in hiding!' The room was filled with silence, with just the flashes of cameras. 'Thank you, United States.' And then he was gone.

Troy turned off the television screen, a satisfied smile on his face. 'It's done.'

Zed.

Troy held a party that night. For once, people weren't wearing just their black outfits. They wore the smartest clothes they had and the cafeteria was vibrant with rainbow colours, standing out against the white backdrop.

'Hello.' Amber purred, running her fingers across my right bicep. She was wearing a tight green dress, which made her eyes stand out. Her wild hair fell across her shoulders.

I looked across the room and my eyes met Sky's, as she walked down the step with her hand in Troy's hand. She looked beautiful with her hair down, wearing a red off-the-shoulder dress and little black heels. Troy spun her around and she giggled as he pulled her in for a kiss. It made me stomach churn.

'Zed?' Amber frowned. She followed my eyes and groaned. 'You as well? For god's sake, I really know how to pick them.' She turned to face me, her eyes sad. 'I thought you were different.'

Sky.

Troy twirled me in a circle and pulled me in for a kiss. I smiled. Nothing was going to ruin this moment. He was happy, I was happy. I looked over at the crowd around us, dancing and celebrating. Jenni caught my eye and smiled from across the room, where she was stood with Sam.

'Sky?'

'Hmmm?' I turned back to face Troy and his eyes were looking deep into mine. 'Are you okay?'

'I...I've been meaning to say something.'

'You have?'

'Yes.' He replied nervously. He looked down and then back up at me. 'Sky I... I'm in love with you.'

That was when the lights went off and the screaming started.
