"So how did things go with Ryan after I left?" Jim asked Pam. "Do you think he bought it?" He was stroking Pam's hair as Pam sat next to him on the couch. Pam had to move away, for obvious reasons, for their ruse to work, but it had caused unhappiness in them both. They were just waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel.
"I'm not sure if it did." Pam answered, "I never really got the chance to mention trying to move to the corporate office." Pam whispered, hoping Jim would not be too mad.
Jim pulled away in mock fury, "You didn't?! You must be losing your touch Beesly." He smiled at her, and she smiled back in relief. Jim pulled her back to him, "No I expected that, men are much more hesitant to give their heart away, and are therefore much harder to seduce to do anything more than sexual things. How long do you think it might take?"
Pam leaned her head lovingly on Jim's shoulder, "I don't know, but I think the third time together will be when I should first mention it." She looked up at smiled at Jim, "I hate that I just said the words 'Third time together.'" Jim snorted at this, Pam did always have a great sense of humor. They stood in silence thinking about their scheme for a few minutes before Pam broke the silence,
"Jim?"
"Yes babe?"
"Do you think this will actually work?"
"Ummm, I am not sure, but we have already started so we may as well finish it," Jim then looked at Pam, "You aren't getting cold feet are you Beesly? This was your idea you know."
Pam reached over and interlocked her fingers with Jim's, "Yeah I know, I am just afraid that we are going to spend 2 months postponing our wedding and having sex with people we don't like, just to get to the end and have it all fall apart."
Jim then looked at Pam with a funny look on his face, and pulls his hand up to his temple, and acts as if he is pulling glasses down his nose and looking over them, "Who says I don't like Jan? Maybe I have an ulterior ulterior motive to our ulterior motive that involves a nice steamy threesome."
Pam giggled, "You mean with me and Jan?" She asked in mock revulsion, playing along with Jim's joke.
"Well I actually meant Jan and Ryan, once you break up with Ryan of course," Jim smiled at Pam and then frowned, "See now I hate that I just said the words 'break up.'"
Pam laughed out loud at this and reached up and kissed Jim on the lips. Jim then replied to her original question, "In all honesty it probably will not work, but if it doesn't nothing will change. Jan and Ryan cannot fire us, in fact this might make them easier to manipulate in the long run even if we have to stay in Scranton. However, if it does work then we will both be earning considerably higher amounts of money and living in The Big Apple." Jim then looked at Pam straight in the eyes, "And I can take you to the finest restaurants, and we can go to some Knicks games, and we can raise our family in the greatest city in the world."
Pam nuzzled up against Jim again, "You make it sound so wonderful."
Jim smiled, "Life with you is already wonderful, but I just want to spread some good icing on the top."
