CHAPTER FOUR: NEVER GROW UP

(Dedicated to Carefully Written)

Momo finally caught a glimpse at her new born daughter.

Through the multiple hours of contractions leading up to the surprise cesarean delivery, she finally caught a glimpse at the small angel she had been waiting for for nine long months.

She could hear her husband, Toshiro, trying to thank her for giving him this precious baby. She wanted to reply to him but she was still to far gone with all the drugs that the nurses had put on her. Though she could see him and was still able to give him a loving smile.

Toshiro kissed her forehead, said something along the lines of 'Be right back', then quickly walked away. When he returned, he had their small baby carefully cradled in his arms.

By then, Momo was finally able to hear him right. He had brought the bundle a little bit closer and whispered, "Say hello to mommy."

She smiled happily and shakily lifted a hand to gently stroke the baby's cheeks. "Hello." She said in a very happy tone.

The new parents became unaware of everything else around them as they became absorbed in their gorgeous little baby. They whispered loving things to the newborn told her how they would both love it for as long as they lived.

When it came time to take Momo to a new room, they forced back in to reality as the nursed offered to take the baby to the room with them.

Even though she was a bit disappointed for having to be parted, Momo knew that this was not going to be a one time meeting. She spend the rest of her life with her new child and the wonderful daddy that gave it to her.

As she was being rolled to her room, the exhaustion of the whole birthing experience was finally getting to her. She gave one last look at her two loves before her eyes drifted shut to a not so long nap that was yet to come.

Momo was sitting up on her hospital bed as she began breastfeeding her daughter.

Toshiro was passed out in the bed that was for all night guests; tired from the past three, sleepless nights in the hospital.

They had finally learned that their baby was a girl on the first night they stayed. For the past nine months, they decided that they wanted the baby's gender would be a surprise. When the did find out, they spend the rest of the nights trying to figure out the perfect name. And finally, they came to one.

"Miyuki." Momo whispered lovingly to her daughter.

Just then, her daughter released from her nipple, indicating that she was full.

The new mother watched as her baby gave a small yawn before resting peacefully against her mothers chest. Momo smiled as she covered herself back up and carefully moved Miyuki into the hospitals crib. She watched as her child slowly closed her eyes while stroking her soft cheeks and watching in awe at the beautiful human being.

She kissed the baby's forehead before beginning to head back to her hospital bed for some much needed sleep. However, she felt something.

Turning back, she saw that her precious baby was clinging on to her index finger.

Momo felt her heart beat faster and her eyes slightly water at the child holding on tightly to her mother. She smiled happily and moved a little closer so that Miyuki wouldn't have to reached so far.

She said softly, "Don't you worry. I am always going to be here for you. I promise."

(Five years later...)

"Where's my like snowflake?" Rangiku Matsumoto said in a very playful tone.

She was currently playing with the small white haired Miyuki in a nice game of hide and seek. She had originally had come to the Hitsugaya home just to have some lunch with her old friends; catching up on the extended time away from each other. Eventually though, she couldn't resist the adorable puppy face of the face year old when she had ask the woman to play with her.

"Where are you?" Rangiku asked again. She had obviously knew where the child was, especially from all the giggling coming from behind the couch. "I'm going to get you."

Toshiro and Momo watched for the dining room as their old friend crept all around the living "looking' for their daughter. Both having a cup of black tea in one hand, and having the other entwine together.

"It's so fun seeing them like this." Momo said with a giggle.

Her husband nodded in agreement. "Yeah. I just hope that they don't make a mess like last time."

"They most likely will."

Back to Rangiku, she was now pretending to look behind the living room curtains and then faking the be disappointed. "If my little snowflake isn't there, then were could she be?

She isn't under the table. Or next to the bookcase. Or even behind the curtains. I wonder if she'll be..."

She jumped behind the couch with a loud thud. "Behind the couch!"

Miyuki squealed with surprise then quickly rushed away; laughing loudly and happily.

"I'm going to catch you!" Rangiku chased after just as joyous while slowing her strive on purpose to give the little girl a head start. "Come here you little monkey!"

The proud parents watched as their baby was 'caught' by her busty aunt. Both happy seeing that their daughter was having a fun time.

Suddenly, Toshiro remembered something.

Turning to his wife, he asked, "Darling, did you remembered to turn in all the paperwork for Miyukis registration?"

Momos mood was drastically changed from cheerful to gloomy. She looked down sadly and nodded slowly.

Noticing her mood change, Toshiro gently placed a hand over hers. "It's alright Love. She'll be okay."

Rangiku suddenly noticed the mood change. She nicely told Miyuki to go play with her other toys, sending to sweet girl off, and went to sit with the parents.

"What's going on?" She asked.

"Miyuki is suppose to go to kindergarten for the first time in two weeks." Toshiro replied. "However, Momo is a bit worried about her going."

"Well, why's that? Miyuki would love to be around other kids and she'll love to learn new things." She said, looking over at the happy little girl. "I don't see whats there suppose to be wrong."

Momo sighed. She looked at her daughter and a sad smile crept on to her face. "I'm just a little nervous about letting her out of my sight. She's been at home with me for long that it breaks my heart to let her go."

"Everything will be alright dear." Toshiro held her hand up to his face and kissed her knuckles.

"Yeah Momo." Rangiku added. "She'll be fine. Besides, it'll only be in the morning and early afternoon. She'll be back with you in no time."

Momo smile widened at her loved ones words. She looked back at her daughter and tried as hard as she could to trust that her baby will be alright.

#*#*#*#*#*#*#

"Do you have everything?" Momo asked as she fixed her daughters uniform and straightened out her hair.

"Yes mommy. All my books and colors." Miyuki replied as she smiled at her.

Toshiro stood behind the two, a small smile on his face at his wifes little antics at prolonging this moment.

"Alright then," Momo said, looking at her daughter in the eyes. "Remember, I am one phone call away. If anything happens, don't be afraid to ask for me. Be good with the other kids and listen to your teacher, okay?"

Miyuki nodded happily.

Then, the bell rang. Signaling for all the kids to go inside the building already.

"Time to go Momo." Toshiro told her as he knelt down to his daughters level. He gave his daughter a small kiss on the cheek before saying, "Have a good day baby. Be on your best behavior."

"I will daddy."

"We love you Miyuki." Momo said, giving her a long hug.

Miyuki then hurried to get into her classroom with the rest of her classmates. Before going in though, she turned back to her parents and blew them an air kiss and waved to them.

Momo and Toshiro waved back and watched their daughter go in. They stayed there until everything settled down and all the classes were closed.

The white haired man put an arm around his wife and began leading her back to their car.

Momo didn't know it, but at the end of the day, her baby would come running out of her classroom where her mother would be waiting outside and tell her about her day. About how she was eager to learn more than she did today. About how she had already made quite a few friends on her first day. Most of all though, how she missed her mother and father just as much as they missed her.

For now though, Momo continued to wait impatiently to see her baby again.

(8 years later...)

"Mom!" 13-year-old Miyuki called as she ran down the stairs and into the kitchen. "I'm ready to go now."

Momo stopped washing the dishes and turned around to see her daughter all dressed up. "Alright sweetie. Let me finish this and then we'll go."

"Come on mom." The preteen whined. "The movie is going to start soon. All my friends are already there. We have to go now."

"I'm almost done. Just be patient."

Miyuki groaned and went to go sit down with her father and seven year old brother, Akio, in the living room. Both father and raven haired boy reading books.

They watched as she stomped her way to the couch and sat down with a loud huff. Chuckling, Toshiro put his book down and turned to his daughter.

"You sound like me when I was your age." Toshiro said. "I really gave your great grandmother hell."

"I can't believe she waited until now to start cleaning the kitchen." She said. "I have to meet my friends soon. Or they'll watch the movie without me."

"They don't sound like good friends to me." Akio said, making his older sister roll her eyes at him.

"I could have gone on my own."

"Right, cause you're that old and mature."

Toshiro shushed his son and turned to his young preteen daughter. Ever since she hit puberty, things have been a bit uneasy with his wife and daughter. Momo had tried her best to stay patient but to Miyuki, everything was difficult. Especially when it came to social outings.

Miyuki was always going out on weekends with friends now, and because of them living a little far from the city, she always needed a ride. Toshiro thought it would be fine for her to take the bus, but his wife insisted that she'd drive her there. He was never one to deny his wife anything too.

Though reluctant, Miyuki couldn't argue with her parents. No matter how much she complained.

"Go easy on her, okay?" Toshiro said. "I know that you make her stop blocks away so no one will see her driving you."

"How did you know?" She asked, surprised. She knew that her mother wouldn't tell. Considering she made her keep that secret.

Before her dad could answer, Akio quickly replied, "I told him about the time I came along."

"You little snitch!"

"Enough!" Toshiro stopped his children before they got to in to it. "Akio, go to your room and let me talk to your sister."

The young boy rolled his emerald eyes, but did as he was told.

When they were alone, Toshiro turned back to his daughter and continued where he left off. "Would you care to explain why you're making your mother do that?"

The preteen sighed. "None of my friends need their moms to take them and pick them up for anything. I'm the only one who ever needs a ride. If they don't need it, then why do I?"

"I understand that you're mad. You only want to show everyone that you're just as grown up as they are."

"Yeah. I can't ever do that though because of mom."

He sighed. "Can you really blame her?"

"What?"

"Can you blame her for wanting to make that you're safe? You are her baby."

"I'm not a baby!" She complained.

"It's not like that in her eyes." He told her. "In her eyes, you're still the small little girl that use to cling to her leg when she was scared."

Miyuki grew more annoyed at the thought of her mother never accepting that she was growing up. She crossed her arms. "It's ridiculous how she can't seem to move on from that."

"Try to see it in her eyes. What would you do if Akio suddenly started acting like he was all grown up?" Toshiro knew that she loved her little brother more than anything, even if they constantly fighting.

"I would be in shock from how fast he thinks he's growing."

"Well, that's how your mother feels. Everyday, when she sees you walk out that door."

Miykui thought for a moment about her fathers words.

It was true that she still thought she could handle herself, though, seeing it through her mothers eyes, it was a bit shocking. She couldn't begin to imagine how her mother really feels, but she could get an idea of it. And it didn't seem like it was happy on her part at all.

She looked down at her lap in shame. She felt so bad for making her mother go through all of her drama. Especially when it came to making her mother feel like she was only an embarrassment.

Toshiro gave a small smile and put his hand on her shoulder. "Just give her a little credit. She really is trying for you."

And Miyuki nodded.

#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#

"Alright, here we are." Momo said as she pulled up to the corner of the street.

She was about to drop her daughter to an afternoon at the movies with her friends. Though, she remembered her daughters rule and parked a good distance away from the theater so none of Miyukis friends saw them.

Miyuki stared down at her twiddling fingers before giving a hard sigh. She knew what she had to do, but it didn't meant that she was going to like it.

"Um, mom?"

"Yes sweetie?" Momo asked. Curious as to why her daughter hasn't left yet.

"Could you...um.." The young girl felt a lump in her throat, but even that won't stop her. "Do you think that you could drop me off at the front this time?"

Momo was stunned. "Oh? Are you sure?"

"Yeah" Miyuki replied, a bit more confident with her words. "I don't see why you should have to park so far away. Just drop me off at the front. Please."

Still in shock, the raven haired woman nodded without a word before putting the car in drive and going to the front of the movie theater. Where her daughters friends stood waiting.

"Thanks mom." Miyuki was about to exit the car when she stopped herself. Remembering to do one last thing, she turned back to her mother and gave her a quick hug. "I love you. Bye."

Momo just sat there, unknowing what to say at first. She watched as her daughter quickly got out of her car and walk over to her friends.

When she snapped out of it, she had every urge to honk her horn and called back how she loved her daughter back. Though, she figured that her daughter had been through enough for the day. So instead, she smiled happily and began on her way home.

She'll let her daughter the hook...this time.

(7 Years Later.)

'Everything is gone.' Miyuki thought as she looked around her now empty bedroom. 'Just about finished.'

To her, it felt like time had somehow fast forward from the moment that she graduated from high school, to now. When she was about to leave her home for good.

A couple years ago, she had been accepted into the most elite university there was in Tokyo. After all the hard work and her fathers constant tutoring, she had finally made it into the college of her dreams.

At first, she mostly went to school at home. There was the chance of her moving into one of the dorms of the university, but she hadn't felt entirely ready to leave home just yet. She had taken many trips on the bus and subways because of that, but she found that she hadn't cared.

Then, after two long years of school, working, and trying to maintain a social life, she had finally come to a stable routine that could involve having a place all her own. Of course with the help of her parents and her part time job working as a librarian, she had just purchased her own studio apartment in the city. Very close to her school too.

So she waited until spring break to pack up all her things and have it moved into her new home.

No more long bus rides, and certainly no more crowded subway trains.

Though, there also was no more spending all her time at home with her family. Also no more having the crowded, but none the less comforting buzz of her loud house.

Miyuki shook her head and tried not to think about the negatives of moving away from home. Instead, she focused on the positives.

Now she only need to walk a couple blocks in order to get to class. Also, she could have her friends over whenever she wanted. She had her own space and privacy. And she definitely was happy that she had her own bathroom now.

Smiling, she leaned against the doorway of her now former room and took quick mental pictures in order to have it set in her mind permanently.

It was hard leaving this room, especially when she been raised and grown up there.

This was were she had her first steps as a baby. Where she sat at the window as kid, which had the perfect view of the front yard, and waited eagerly for her father to get home from work. Where her younger brother would run to when he had a bad dream and she would sing to him the lullaby their mother use to use on her.

Miyuki hated to admit it, but everything she went through here and use to have, was now gone. It was time to make new memories in a new place.

And she didn't know if she was ready for that...

"Sweetie!" Momo called out from downstairs. Snapping Miyuki out of her thoughts. "The moving truck is ready to go."

The twenty year old quickly wiped away the tears she now realized she had before calling back. "Alright! I'm coming!"

Taking one last look at the room, she smiled sadly and whispered before heading downstairs, "Goodbye."

#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#

Miyuki now stood in her new and cluttered apartment. Looking around the place that was filled with boxes. The only light in the studio was coming from the sunlight through the window.

Her family and friends of her parents had just left but not before helping her bring all the things from the rented moving truck to her new apartment. It took about half the day, but everything was now set up for unpacking.

The insisted on staying longer to help her, but she only nicely told them that she could handle. So the bunch had a very heart filled goodbye and left the new adult be alone in her new home.

She was quick to begin opening said boxes and putting everything in its place. Her clothes in the closet. Her bed in the middle of the studio. Books in her two big cases. Plates and utensils that her mother had bought for her in the kitchen drawers. And the rest in it's respected places. She had also decided to wait until the next for her to go food shopping. That way, her mother could tag along too.

It took hours and she never even stopped, expect for when ordered a take out for a quick dinner. By nine at night, she was just about finished.

She had just completed in making her bed with her sheets, pillows, and blankets when realized something. The place was completely dark.

Miyuki had been so caught in make her apartment more homey that she had missed the time passing. She tried to turn on her lights, but she remembered what her father had said about the electricity not functioning until tomorrow.

She figured she could just go to bed now since everything was basically done. So the young adult quickly showered and dressed into her night gown. When she laid in her bed with the covers over her, she had a strange new feeling.

Like the place was so...empty.

Even with her blankets on, she felt a cold shill run through body. The silence was getting to her as well.

At her old home, she could her brothers video games or him reading out loud in the next room. Or hear her parents from across the hall either talking or laughing happily with each other. They always acted in love, even through all these years and Miyuki had grown to adore it.

Now though, there was nothing.

No parents, no Akio, nothing.

Just her and the silence.

Unable to bear it anymore, she quickly sat up, grabbed her phone from her nightstand and pressed speed dial one.

She impatiently waited through the ringing and quickly spoke up when the line was picked up.

"Hey, I know it's late, but can you come over?"

#*#*#*#*#*#*#*#

Miyuki was quick to answer her door when she suddenly heard the knocking at her door. Standing on the other side, was her mother. Also in her sleep wear and wearing slippers. She had a warm smile that her daughter instantly retreated too.

Without knowing it, Miyuki let out a small whimper and immediately ran into her mothers waiting arms and cried silently into her shoulder.

She felt like home, and Miyuki was more than grateful to have that feeling again.

After a while, the pair found themselves lying on the younger girls bed. Miyuki all tucked in and laying closely and tightly in her mothers arms.

At that moment, Miyuki didn't care how childish it was to need her mother in order to sleep. Nor did she think about how starting tomorrow, she'll have to learn to get use to being on her own.

All that mattered was that she wasn't alone. She had the person who would cherish her more than anything. The one that was with her through everything. That's all that mattered.

With her eyes slowly fluttering shut, she had one last request.

Taking her mothers hand, she asked, "Mom?"

"Yes baby?" The woman replied.

"Sing to me." She whispered hopefully. "Please?"

Momo smiled and nodded. She began stroking her daughters hair before letting her sweet voice fill the room.

"Your little hands wrapped around my finger and it's so quiet in the world tonight..."

And there you have it! I really hope you all enjoyed this one-shot, because it was a bit hard for me write. XP Anyway, I am still taking request and I promise that it will be dedicated to you if you suggest it :)

That's all the time I have! See you next time!
