Chapter 372

.

Eve tried to return to her unit. She agreed with major Keeler that it was better to die a soldier than a desserter. He had given orders, "Not one foot back." He was rumored to have shot his own people for just looking back. By this point the mob was rumming rampant. People were fighting on the street, it was impossible to tell who was from Walker's camp, and who was from Washington. Eve saw people attacking her comrades, she shot to protect them, did her best from a corner in the alley. She saw that Marissa was dead, the mob was desecrating her body. As much as Eve felt her friend deserved a proper burial, she was unwilling to risk what was left of her life to save a corpse. Then Keeler radioed Eve, told her to rendevous with him at a designated spot. When they met up Keeler's left arm was wounded, with fresh blood.

.

Eve: Where is everybody?

Keeler: We are everybody, at least from our unit.

Eve: My God, they killed them all

Keeler: Yeah, ate them too. We're joining up with survivors of other units, heading to the White House. We can at least make a decent stand protecting our president.

Eve: I'm ready.

Keeler: I also need you to go to the whorehouse. You can convince Kyle and the others that their leave is officially over.

Eve: They're just kids. They'll be killed badly if they fight morlocks.

Keeler: They probably will be. But maybe we can defend our city. Either way we all fight.

Eve: I'm not sending children to get eaten.

Keeler: Captain Thompson, I've given you your orders. You can like or hate them, we're all entitled to our feelings. But you will follow them or I will execute you right here.

Eve: I understand sir. And I'll do what I have to do, but I won't like it.

.

Before major Keeler could react Eve drew her gun and shot him in the head, killing him instantly.
