Chapter 374
.
It was amazing how time could mve slowly, and be over too quickly. The last few days of June 2036 were painful. But when each day was over, Eve wanted them back. She adapted to this new station. The food often came in the middle of the night, mostly just energy bars and bottles of water. They were suppossed to give each person who came one bar and one bottle, twice a day. Those who risked coming more times, risked being shot on sight. Children were given rations first. Ernie brought his refugee children here, Eve told him that Marissa was dead. Things calmed down somewhat. After these stations began giving away food, most of Walker's people abandoned their crusade. Some kept moving forward. Workers at the mercy clinics were hung on lamp-posts by angry mobs for their work. As the mob was descending upon congress some members shot themsleves in the head rather than be taken alive. Those who didn't, Walker's mob made them regret it. By July 1st Walker's mob reached the capitol. Walker declared himself president, the first president of the up-coming Millenial Kingdom. So far he and Mason hadn't come to blows, but Eve knew that couldn't be avoided. Walker wasn't as rational as Douglas or Gardner. He wouldn't surrender or negotiate, not when he was so certain God was on his side. Only time would tell if he was right.
