This rhyme was part of the gallows humor in Washington D.C. these days. It was now July 9th 2036, 11 days until impact. Although Walker and his mob were in control of the capitol, he was believed to be in some kind of negotiations with Mason. They might actually both have reason for there to be relative calm. Walker suppossedly wanted to keepas many "True believers" alive for the Millenial Kingdom. Mason needed to protect the capitol to detonate the explosives on ELE when the time came. Walker was trying to make laws for the whole country, but had little power to enforce them. On this day Eve heard some relatively good news. Jed Mason was dead. The morlocks tried to burn him alive, but a loyalist soldier shot him in the head to spare him the pain. Zoey would likely turn her gun on herself as soon as she heard the news. Although she'd never see her beloveds again, Eve was glad that their pain was over. On this day Eve also witnessed a competition. Two women, one christian another Finis Generatium, engaged in a duel. This ritual was inspired by the "Wonder Woman" television series from the 2020s. It was called "Bullets and bracelets." Each woman took turns shooting at the other, who tried to deflect the bullets with a metal bracelet. It turned out this was harder than tv made it look, the firss shooter wounded the other on her first try, then put her out of her misery. Later Eve was given leave by colonel Greer to deliver rations to Ernie's brothel, and his refugee children. It was eerily quiet from the outside. Ernie had kept the mob at pay with his obvious human resources. When Eve got inside, they were all dead. At first Eve thought they had been killed for dessertion. But Mason would've had them simply shot, wouldn't want them to suffer. These people had been hacked to death, someone wanted them to die horribly. Ernie, Lucy, all gone. Kyle Singer wasn't here. Eve hoped he and some others might've escaped. Eve would find who did this to her friends. Whether they would suffer as they made their victims suffer, Eve wasn't sure just yet. Either way, they would die soon.
