Sky.
I ran down the corridor, which was empty as people were clearing the stage, and I found myself stood outside the fire exit. The evening air was cool but it was relieving. At least I was away from those horrible flowers. The door closed behind me and I cursed. Now I was shut out of my own concert; brilliant.
I let out a sigh and wished I'd grabbed my phone. I now had to wait and hope that someone was going to have a cigarette break or risk walking in the maindoors through all of Ed's fans. I gave the fire exit one last tug and sighed again; it wasn't going to open.
That was when I heard the footsteps in the alleyway behind me. Shit. I bit my lip and turned around slowly.
'Hello, Sky.'
Troy stood there, the man of my nightmares, staring back at me. He had been arrested and contained. How the hell had he gotten out? He walked over to me and I backed up until I was against the fire exit with no where else to go. His right hand stroked my cheek and I flinched.
'I've missed you.' He whispered.
'It was you, wasn't it? All of the flowers?' I said, my voice shaking.
'Clever girl.' He smiled.
'But how?'
'I know many people.' He smiled. 'I've been waiting for this moment. The moment where I could get out and see you again.'
'How.. how did you get out?' I asked, my heart racing. He was supposed to be in a specialist unit, where he couldn't get out.
'You know me... when I set my mind to something, I do it.' He smirked. I tried to struggle, but he held me perfectly still using his ability. 'Remember your ability? It came in handy when I was locked away. The guards weren't as powerful as they thought. Nor was anyone that worked in that building. I walked straight out and they weren't able to stop me. I was able to board a plane by pretending I had already shown them my passport. It worked a treat, you know, training you up to use your ability against the President. It's just made me more powerful.' I focussed my mind, trying to push him away but I was held still. Troy leant down and kissed me on the cheek, before whispering, 'and with your new fame, you've become quite easy to track, haven't you?' I shivered. 'Now you need to come with me so that no one is hurt. After all, we are supposed to be together.'
'No, Zed is my soulfinder.' I hissed, spitting in his face.
He growled, slamming me against the fire exit door. My head throbbed with pain.
'Get off of her!'
Troy turned in surprise and I looked at the girl stood at the other end of the alley way. In her leather jacket, crop top, jeans and boots, she didn't look like my ideal saviour.
'Run!' I shouted to her. 'Please, you have no idea what he's capable of!'
'We've already met.' Troy said to her, his voice smooth but deadly.
'And I don't know why I didn't do this then!' She ran at him, pushing him away from me but knocking me to the ground in the process. I held my hand to my head and realised the back of it was bleeding.
xx-xx-xx
Lucy.
I was running on adrenaline, I had to be. Sure, I'd done a few self defence classes but I'd never been great at it. I watched as Sky crawled her way to the fire exit, banging on it for help, her head bleeding.
The villain grabbed me by the shoulders and pushed me up against the wall. 'You know, you're quite pretty really.'
'Get the fuck off of me.' I hissed, trying to knee him in the privates but his hand moved quickly and pushed me out of the way. 'I said get the fuck off!' He was thrown backwards, hitting his head on the ground.
He looked up at me in surprise. 'Who are you?'
'Does it matter?' I smirked, despite wondering how I had caused him to throw backwards. I looked over at Sky in panic, realising she was drifting towards unconciousness.
Troy carefully got to his feet and I pushed him against the wall, holding him in his place.
'Oh my god, Sky! Security!'
Without letting go of the man's throat, I turned my head in the direction of the voice. Ed Sheeran.
What the hell happened?
My eyes widened at his voice in my head and I lost concentration. Troy tackled me to the ground.
'Oh, shit.' Ed hurried over, shoving the guy off of me. They stood in a stand-off and that's when I heard the bullets sound. I looked to the end of the alleyway and saw three huge guys, who looked quite similar. Then my mind slipped elsewhere. Ed had been in my head.
I looked over at him, where he was knelt beside Sky, applying pressure to her head. He had no idea I'd heard him before.
Come on Sky, an ambulance is on the way.
'Here.' I walked over to him, despite my shaking legs, and I passed him my leather jacket. He held it against her head.
'Thanks.'
'Lucy?!'
I looked across the alleyway where my cousin was stood.
'You can't come in here.' One of the men told her but she wasn't having any of it.
'That's my cousin you idiot. Now let me through.' She hissed and he stepped aside. She ran over and pulled me into a hug. 'Don't you dare do that to me again!' She looked at the man on the floor, who was unconscious and covered in blood. 'Oh my god.'
'An ambulance and the FBI are on the way.' One of the dark haired men told me. 'You're going to have to make a statement but you need to go to hospital first.'
'I'm fine.' I frowned and my forehead hurt.
My cousin rolled her eyes at me. 'Luce, you have a cut on your forehead and your nose is bleeding. Stop being so damn stubborn for once in your life.'
xx-xx-xx
Ed.
Zed arrived shortly after we had got to the hospital. He'd been on his way over anyway as his brothers had heard that Troy had managed to escape his unit. Three of them had got to the venue in time and thank god they had. They'd managed to hide it from the public so far and I hoped it would stay that way. The doctors dismissed me straight away, saying I was fine.
'Thank you.' Zed said, patting my shoulder.
'It wasn't me.' I replied, honestly. It was the girl, the one that seemed to know the reporter I'd spoken to earlier. I left Zed to look after Sky, who was probably going to have to stay over night. She'd had stitches and she was quite shaken up by what had happened. I didn't blame her. Seeing her like that had been heartbreaking and it made me feel sick. All I wanted was to curl up on the hospital bed beside her and protect her, but that's what her husband was for. I sighed.
I caught the reporter in the hallway, nursing a cup of coffee. 'Are you okay... Willow?'
Silly question, I realised when she looked up at me with tear-filled eyes. 'She's going to be okay this time.'
'This time? Does this happen often?'
'No.' She replied, her eyes wide with panic. 'Forget I said anything.'
I decided not to press it. 'Was she at the concert with you tonight? I didn't see her with you backstage.'
'She's my cousin.' She gave a small smile. 'But we're close enough to be sisters. She grabbed some food when I interviewed you.'
'She's very brave.' I returned the smile.
'And very stubborn.' She rolled her eyes. 'It's going to get her killed one day'
'Miss Dunley, we've stitched up her wound and cleaned her up but we would like her to stay in overnight as she's quite pale and she's been complaining of sickness. Would you like me to call anyone for you?' The doctor said, leaving Willow's cousin's room.
She groaned and frowned. 'No, it's fine.' The doctor smiled and headed off down the corridor. 'Ugh, Lucy's mum will never let her come and stay with me again!'
'Do you mind if I go and see her?' I surprised myself by asking. After all, Sky was safe because of her so I was grateful.
'No, that's fine.' She gave a small smile. 'It means I can head back to the hotel and pick up our things. I'm sure she'll want a change of clothes.'
'I can stay until you get back?' I offered.
'Do you mind?'
'Of course not.' I smiled.
'Thank you.' And I know she meant it as she headed off with her handbag.
I gave a small knock on the door and walked inside. The smell of antisceptic was overwhelming and the room looked like all hospital rooms; full of white and cleanliness. I looked at the bed and saw Sky's saviour sat in her jeans and a blood-splattered crop top, her shoes on the floor and a notebook in her hand. She met my eyes with surprise and I couldn't help but notice the cut across her forehead, which had butterfly stitches across it.
'I wanted to check you were okay.' I told her with a smile.
She nodded with an expression I couldn't quite work out. 'Thanks.'
'Not the best concert experience, huh?' I walked over and sat on the chair beside her.
'Not really.' She let out a laugh and then winced, putting her notebook down.
'What's that?' I asked out of curosity.
Her cheeks blushed. 'Nothing.'
'Come on, let me see.'
'It's totally embarassing!' She replied, trying to grab it but she wasn't quick enough. I grabbed it and scanned the page. She was a songwriter. I smiled and started to sing the lyrics in my head:
Did you forget
That I was even alive?
Did you forget
Everything we ever had?
She blushed. Stop it.
My eyes widened and I looked up at her. What?
She bit her lip and looked at me with her beautiful bluey-green eyes.
'You're... you're my... soulfinder?' I said in disbelief. It couldn't be that easy, could it? 'When's your birthday?'
'February 29th... stupidest date ever.' She frowned.
So it was possible. 'But... I didn't realise earlier.'
She let out a sigh and looked down. 'I heard you. You asked what happened.'
'And then you lost concentration.' I pieced the jigsaw together and I was filled with guilt. 'It's my fault... your head.'
'It's fine. I'm fine.' She reassured me but I couldn't help feeling guilty.
'What's your ability?' I whispered after checking there was no one else around to hear us. 'Are you super strong?'
She frowned and then winced, her head obviously hurting. 'No... I can sense if something bad is going to happen but... I don't know how I held him back...' Her eyes filled with panic. 'Oh my god... where is he? He was shot and...'
'He's dead.' I replied, quietly. 'Sky's husband told me. It's over. He can't hurt anyone else, not anymore.'
'Oh.' Her eyes softened. 'So what now?'
'I don't know, but it looks like you're stuck with me.'
xx-xx-xx
Sky.
The next day, my head felt a lot less groggy but my vision was still a little fuzzy and I still felt sick. The doctors had told me I had concussion. What a great way to end the tour. What I was happy about, though, was that Zed was with me and Troy was dead. Trace and Victor had said that it was the best thing to do as there would always be the risk of him escaping again. It was really all over.
'Hey, beautiful.' Zed whispered from the chair beside me. I rolled onto my side, wincing at the pressure in my head. I definitely had a headache. 'How are you feeling?'
'Not so great.' I groaned.
He reached over and kissed me softly. 'Just so you know, I'm never getting you go on tour again.'
I laughed. 'It's not high on my priority list right now.' I sat up carefully and Zed plumped up my cushions. 'I want to see her.'
'Who?'
'The girl who helped me last night. Is she still here?'
'I saw her cousin outside earlier.' Zed smiled. 'Come on, I'll get you a wheelchair.'
A wheelchair was unecessary, but Zed wasn't having any of it. The doctors had said they were still worried about my diziness so I was going to be in hospital for at least another day. He wheeled me down the corridor, stopping to get us each a cup of water on the way. Willow, the girl's cousin headed past us.
'Hey.' I said with a smile. 'How are you?'
'Better not that Luce is feeling better.' She smiled. 'I was just going to head out and get some breakfast. Do you guys want anything?'
I looked up at Zed. 'Sounds good, why don't you go and help Willow? She won't be able to carry it all back.'
'Will you be okay?'
'Of course.' I smiled back at him.
He gave me a kiss on the lips. 'Call me if there's any problems.'
'I will.' I wheeled myself off towards Lucy's room, cursing that the door was closed.
'Do you want some help, miss?' A nurse laughed at my attempt to open the door with my foot. She pushed it open carefully for me.
'Thank you.'
I was surprised by the sight in front of me when I was inside the room; Lucy was lying on top of the covers in polka dot leggings and a baggy t-shirt, Ed squashed onto the bed beside her, both of them flicking through a notebook and laughing. They both looked up and spotted me.
'Hey, Bluebird.' Ed smiled. 'Should you be up?'
'No one stopped me.' I laughed in reply. I wheeled myself over to the bedside and looked at at Lucy. 'Thank you... for everything.'
She smiled back at me. 'It's okay. It had to be done. Now hopefully we can just move on from it, huh?'
'Sounds good to me.' I replied and she held her hand out to me. I took it. 'I'm Sky.'
'Lucy.'
I looked over at Ed, who looked happier than I'd ever seen him. His smile met his eyes and they twinkled, despite the bags under them which suggested he hadn't slept too well. 'So is anyone going to tell me what's going on or do I have to guess?'
Ed and Lucy looked at each other and I didn't need to ask what was going on. It was obvious.
'So Lucy is my soulfinder...' Ed said with a lopsided smile.
'I'm so pleased for you!' I grinned and I was. Ed deserved to be happy and find his soulmate. She was kind, brave and pretty. They were going to be great together. I just hope she was who she making out to be.
