"James!"

The ten year old red head rushed into the kitchen and stopped in front of his father.

"Yeah, dad?"

"Sarge made a mess again. We talked about training him to stay out of the trash." Steve said.

"I know dad. I'm sorry. I'll clean it." James declared and hurried over to pick up the trash that was on the floor of the kitchen.

Steve couldn't be mad at his son and went over to help. Between the two of them, they were able to get the mess cleaned up quickly.

For James's birthday, the young boy had asked for a puppy. His wish had been granted by getting the puppy he had spotted at a pet shop. A small yellow lab.

In order to get the puppy trained to live in Stark Tower, the two parent's and their child relocated to the private country home Tony had purchased for all of them to be able to get away when they felt they needed time to relax and be out of the public's eye.

The parent's of the child agreed that they wanted James to be able to run around and have fun without the worry of being seen by the paparazzi or news crews. So this was also a safe haven for him.

Somehow word had gotten out that Captain America has a son and that started a blaze in which every photographer in the state was out at all hours of the day and night in order to try to snap a shot of the famous soldier's child.

Tony had bought the two storied country house in a very private location on private property but went a step more by adding Jarvis and the same security that the tower had.

The Avengers would get a warning if anyone came within two hundred yards of the house. It would give them time to get James inside and out of the view of unwanted eyes.

Steve and Natasha wanted to keep their son out of the public view because they greatly feared that someone would try to cause harm to their only child. They wanted to wait until James was a little older and he fully understood the kind of attention he would get once he was revealed as Captain America's son to allow him to be on his own in public.

Now the house had become a sort of puppy training area and Sarge was giving them plenty of things to work on.

"Did you ever have a dog, dad?" James asked as they began searching for the missing pup.

"Well, we didn't really own one but the Commando's and I did take care of a German Sheperd for a while. We found him after a raid on a town. He had a hurt leg so we took him back to camp, helped him heal and kept him with us for a while. We even brought him back home with us. From what Director Fury told me, Tim Dugan took care of Ace until he passed away from old age. I loved that dog."

James smiled and ducked to the floor to look under the couch where he quickly spotted a pair of brown eyes.

"Sarge, come out." he urged.

Slowly the small puppy crawled out from under the sofa and trotted over to James.

Steve lightly smiled at his son as he played with his pet.

He couldn't help but be happy that his son already has a much better childhood than he did when he'd been young. It was what he always wanted to give his child.

"How can I train him better?" James asked.

"Be patient." Steve answered as he knelt next to his son and gave the pup a scratch behind the ear. "It takes time to teach him how to properly behave. It won't happen in a day."

James nodded.

Together, he and his father walked outside to the large back yard and spent a few hours training and playing with Sarge.

At half an hour to six, Jarvis alerted the captain of an arrival through the wrist communicator.

"Captain Rogers, your wife is currently a few yards away from the house."

"Thank you, Jarvis." Steve said. "James. Let's get inside. Your mom is almost here and we need to get supper started."

"Ok." James agreed as he awkwardly picked up Sarge and walked to the back door.

Once inside, the pup was let free while the father and son got supper started. They had just started when they heard the front door open.

"Welcome Mrs. Rogers." Jarvis greeted.

"Hello Jarvis." Natasha's voice greeted before she entered the kitchen a moment later. "There's my boys."

"Hi mom." James greeted as he eagerly rushed over and hugged his mother.

"Hi my big boy. Were you good today?" Natasha replied as she hugged her son.

"Yes." James answered.

"What about Sarge?" Natasha asked.

Right after she asked, the three heard a small bark and then paper being torn apart from the living room.

"Still working on it." Steve said as James rushed from the kitchen to stop the puppy from doing any more damage.
