Chapter 384
.
Burns brought Eve past his perimeter. It seemed to be the ration station, and the houses in the immediate vicinity. A few armed guards with assault weapons. Eve still had her pistol, with six bullets left. One of Ceasar's lieutenants bringing a desperate whore inside wasn't unusual, they probably noticed her tatterred uniform and tatoos more. This was a fairly nice house, Eve preferred not to think what had happenned to the previous owners. Burns kept his word, gave Eve two energy bars and a bottle of water. Then they went to his bedroom and Eve performed her part of the bargain. Eve then tried to sleep. The air-conditioning went on and off all night. At one point Eve woke up and heard Burns watching a DVD. From what Eve could hear the plot involved the government putting drugs into the air, making people happy and more compliant. So much so they didn't even mind when people murdered them, even said "Thank you." Burns didn't seem to want to actually sleep, with so little time left he wanted to enjoy what he could. The next morning Burns woke Eve up and they had sex again. Then they had breakfast, two energy bars and a bottle of water. During breakfast Burns mentioned a rumor. A woman with collectivist tattoos and a loyalist uniform, they were calling her the "Butcher of the cathedral." Eve said she'd heard the stories, but it wasn't her. Burns then said Eve had to leave. She shouldn't expect him to bring her here again, but she was free to try her luck with other of Caesar's men. Then Eve left, eight days until impact, how was she suppossed to last that long?
