Chapter 385

.

After Eve left she once again had no idea what to do. They were apparently calling her the "Butcher of the cathedral." Eve knew that anyone who earned the title "butcher" was a very bad person. Suddam Hussein was called "butcher of Bagdad" one of Slobadan Milisivich's minions was called "butcher of Belgrade" they were all genocidal monsters, redemption was likely impossible now. She heard people talking about Caesar. After commandeering the food and weapons Caesar became an arms-dealer to both sides. Giving both Walker and Mason a few weapons at a time forced them to keep Caesar alive another day. Eve knew most of his men were visibly high, even on duty. If a large crowd rushed them, they' be defeated. But they did still have assault weapons, many from the mob would be killed. People today were trying to survive, they figured they'd have better luck going to other ration stations, despite the rumors. There were rumors that Mason was poisoning the food, killing off more people who could rush the White House. Eve doubted these were true. Even with the mercy clinics destroyed many were still killing themselves, using whatever crude methods they could. Caesar had no delusions that he would last another week, likely one of his own men would slit his throat before impact. He was just enjoying his power trip while he could. But in the meantime more people would die from hunger. Eve saw children crying, mothers trying desperately to comfort their dying infants. Maybe she could steal some of Caesar's food. She'd be tortured to death if she was caught, but she could die doing some good. Seemed like a pretty good idea right now.
