Chapter 387

.

Caesar seemed to want all his people dependent on his drugs. This helped insure short-term loyalty, but long-term chaos, if long-term had been an option. Caesar made sure word spread how the butcher of the cathedral now worked for him, fear helped him keep his possessions. On Saturday night everyone was partying. Only a few were needed for duty at any given time. Eve tried to remember where the food was stored. Her plan was to steal as much food as she could carry and run like hell, give it to the first refugees she saw. She feared people noticed her looking at the storage area. Around 11pm Burns said Caeser needed to see her on the roof of his house. Eve feared why it might be happenning on a high area. Caeser was holding two people, a man and a woman, hostage. He said the woman was accussing Eve of conspiring with this man to steal from him. Eve denied the charges, said she had heard these two plotting to steal from him, and tried to warn Caeser. The male hostage had a frightened look on his face. Caeser nodded to his men. Both Eve and the other woman confirmed that this man tried to steal from him, they only disagreed on who he conspired with. Caeser's me threw the male hostage off the roof. He seemed to survive, but was twitching in painful dying motions. Caeser said Eve and the other woman would have trial by combat, a duel. When they went downstairs each girl was given a gun with one bullet. People were watching, Caeser was providing them with some entertainment. Eve knew the drill, but unlike with Zoey, she wouldn't be allowed to spare her opponnents life. They walked the ten paces, and Eve fired immediately. She aimed at the woman's head, and hit. She was still alive, but dying in great pain. The crowd was cheering, and taunting the dying woman. Eve asked Caeser for another heroin pill, and he rewarded Eve for her victory.
