James let out a grunt as he flipped over a moving railing and landed perfectly on his feet before moving onto the next obstacle.
"Captain, I do believe that James could very well be the first in the next generation of Avengers." Fury stated as he watched the young teen continue on through the simulated battle.
"I don't think that's a good idea, sir." Steve replied.
"Why not? James obviously has the fight of both of his parent's in him. I believe that he would make a great Avenger."
"He's too young to do this kind of thing." Steve said.
"You were young when you picked up the shield." Fury replied.
"I, at least, was an adult. James is only sixteen." Steve stated.
"Well, normally I would ask James what he wants. But considering who his parent's are, I think this should be something that you should talk about privatly." Fury said.
Steve mentally smirked. He knew that Fury wouldn't want to cause any problem with him and Natasha. Especially since they were two of his best agents and Avengers that hadn't retired yet.
The blond captain looked back to his son and had to admit that he was impressed with the skill James possessed. Seeing the way his teen son moved made Steve wonder if he got the super soldier serum after all.
It sure would explain why James was so much more healthy than his classmates. He was always running faster than them, seemed to be able to lift more weights than them and even his mental capacity was a little faster than most. It helped boost him to the top ten ranking of his grade.
The captain smiled when he saw James finish the course and walk off to rest.
"I'll talk to him and Natasha about it and let you know what we discussed." he said.
"That's all I ask." Fury replied. "It would be amazing if the son followed in the footsteps of his father."

The room would have been in total silence were it not for the seemingly loud ticking of the near by wall clock. He and his parent's sat at the table in his father's den.
Normally, when his parent's called him for a moment like this, it meant something serious. The last time this happened, it had embarassingly been for a talk about the facts of life. His parent's had said they didn't trust the schools way of teaching since they 'sugar coated' most of the facts.
With that talk out of the way, James wondered what his parent's wanted to talk about. As far as he knew, he hadn't done anything to cause them concern.
"Uh, mom, dad. Is something wrong?" he dared to ask.
"Nothing is wrong." Natasha answered. "But we do have to have a serious talk with you."
"Did I do something?" James asked, suddenly afraid he'd done something without realizing it.
"Nothing bad." Steve answered. "Let's get to the point of this. James, Director Fury and SHIELD have noticed that you're becoming a great fighter. So good that they believe you should be the leader of what they hope to be the next generation of Avengers."
"Really?" James asked with a tone of surprise and excitment.
"We told Fury that because you're only sixteen this is a serious matter that we need to talk to you about." Steve said. "Really, it's up to you James. You're the only one who can make this kind of choice. You can become the first of the next generation of Avengers or you can stay the way you are now."
James looked down at the table and considered his father's words.
Becoming an Avengers was his biggest dream and goal in life. All his life, others had believed that he would become exactly like his father.
SHIELD believed it, everyone at his school believed it, even the other original Avengers believed it. He wondered if his parent's believed the same thing. He couldn't be too sure because he believed they would always see him as their son and not a possible second Captain America.
Hearing what his parent's just told him really made James think about things. He recalled all of the stories his mother and father told him. All of the missions they had gone on, the places they've been to and all of the dangers they had faced. The many times they weren't sure they'd come home or not.
He didn't want to cause them any worry or stress if he did decide to take the offer of, like his father, being the first Avenger.
"You don't have to make up your mind right now." Natasha told her son. "Take all the time you want to think about. This is a serious decision that really needs serious thought. This is your choice and no one is going to make it for you. Especially not the two of us."
"But what are your thoughts about it?" James quickly asked. "I know that you both didn't want me to go down this path and now it's confusing hearing that you'll let me make this choice if I want."
"James, it's true that neither of us wanted you to become like us." Steve said. "After the lives we've had, we didn't want you to go through the same things. We didn't want to see our only child to go through the dangers and near deaths that we've gone through. We had too many close calls to not want the same on you. We wanted you to have a normal upbringing like other teens your age."
"But," Natasha continued. "Just knowing that you're the son of Captain America and the Black Widow, we knew normal wasn't going to happen. True to that statement, your childhood was very interesting. Also, we're not totally sure but, it seems like you may have inherited the super soldier serum. That alone could be another reason that SHIELD wants you on this new team."
James nodded at his mother's statement. He'd heard at how desperate some people had been trying to get a sample of his father's blood in hopes of replicating the serum. He also knows that his mother has a different version made by the people who trained her.
Since both their serums were locked in their genes, everyone, including James, believed that he has the serum as well.
"Like your mother said, think about this as long as you want James." Steve said. "We'll both support you."
"Thanks mom. Thanks dad. I'll really think about this and let you know what I decide." James said as he stood.
His parent's copied his actions and hugged him.
"If you do decide to become the next first Avengers, I just know that you're going to be as admired as your father." Natasha said with a smile.
James smiled again before leaving to his room to think things over.
