Chapter 388

.

When Eve woke up Sunday morning she remembered the previous night. It had been an orgy, Caeser told her to have sex with multiple partners, himself included. She had hoped the heroin would make her forget. It had only helped her not mind remembering, when she was high. Eve craved another fix, hoped Caeser would give her another one. Then Eve heard a loudspeaker broadcasting a christian sermon. In exactly one week ELE would hit, early in the morning. Eve had no doubt there would be spontaneous outbursts of faith when the giant tidal wave came. That was when she remembered why she was here. She had planned to steal food and water from this warlord and give it to the starving refugees. And now, she was a heroin addict, abandoning her mission and caring only about her next fix. Eve wanted to take her gun and blow her brains out, she wouldn't be the first of Caeser's people to do this since she arrived. But she knew that was selfish. She had to complete her mission. Eve went to an area where food was being stored. Only one guard, a young woman. Eve said she was here to relieve her, she should go. The guard said she still had an hour left on her shift, started to call Caeser on her walkie, and Eve pulled her gun. Eve said she would either let her in, or Eve would shoot her. The guard couldn't reach her own gun in time, but knew if she let Eve steal Caeser would torture her to death, at least Eve would make it quick. Eve tried to reason with her, this way she'd have a chance to escape, but the guard still refused. Eve counted down from three. When the guard didn't open Eve shot her in the head, killing her instantly. Eve then went inside and stole as many energy bars and bottles of water as her backpack would carry. Then she quickly walked away and covertly tried to escape from Caeser's compound.
