Chapter 392

.

The morlocks rarely left their little hole, seemed to prefer the darkness. Perhaps they were ashamed to show their faces in the light. Eve could relate. She only sat silently in the corner, gave her milk whenever their leader told her to do so. Morlocks rarely talked, Eve remained completely silent. There was nothing she could do except hide in the corner, go through the pain of withdrawel, and await death. The leader seemed to have a weak heart, one of the others was eying this weakness, seemed ready to take over. Eve remembered other ruthless leaders, Gaines, Keeler, even the Molochite leader, were willing to put themselves in danger before their people. Eve doubted this morlock leader would do that, he was an extreme survivor. This place stunk, another corner had become the bathroom. They never disposed of their waste, it attracted flies, and flies were food. Eve didn't even resist when they brought her food, she wanted to avoid God's judgement longer, same as her new friends. She never learned the other morlocks' names, they never asked hers. Their shame caused them to completely abandon their human names. The only major difference was that they were extreme survivors, Eve longed for death. But when the moments came Eve chose this life over death, so this difference might've just been in her mind. All those people Eve had tried to talk out of the mercy clinics, maybe they had the right idea. Nadia and Jamal were probably in Heaven together right now. They had never looked down on Eve, but they should have. It occurred to Eve during this captivity that she was helping to keep the morlocks alive, she ate their food, she was like them now, another nameless morlock.
