"James." a soft whisper spoke. "Wake up, buddy."
James sleepily stretched and yawned before opening his eyes to spot his father kneeling next to his bed.
"Morning." Steve greeted his eight year old son.
"Good morning, dad." James replied as he sat up. "Is today the day?"
"It is." Steve answered. "You ready to help me make mommy her favorite breakfast?"
"Yeah." James answered excitedly.
"Good. Go brush your teeth and meet me in the kitchen." Steve said and watched as his son ptratically ran to his bathroom.
The soldier then made his way to the suite kitchen and began to gather the items needed to make Natasha breakfast.
He and James had been planning on his for the past few days in hopes that Natasha wouldn't catch on. He figured she might catch on since it's Mother's Day.
Just as Steve set the bag of flour on the counter, James came rushing in with a large excited smile on his face.
"Ok, we have to be real quiet. We hardly ever get to surprise your mom. We need to make sure that she's really surprised today."
James nodded and quickly grabbed his step stool so that he could safetly be able to help his father mix the ingredients.
Together, the two were able to get a perfect waffle mix and began to cook the batter in the waffle iron. While the waffles cooked, the two set to work on cutting some fruit.
James quicklly arranged the fruit into a smily face on the waffles once they were done and set on a plate. When that was done, his father added some extra pieces to the meal while James grabbed a small glass vase from under the sink.
He then located the hidden roses his father got the day before. The roses were placed in the vase and thus the surprise was complete.
"Ready?" Steve asked as he picked up the tray.
"Ready." James answered.
The two made their way to the master bedroom and walked in in time to see Natasha start to wake up. She sat up with a stretch and opened her eyes which went wider at the scene before her.
"Happy Mother's Day!" the two Rogers men announced.
"Oh my..." Natasha exclaimed with a smile as Steve placed the tray over her lap. "Well, this is a real surprise."
"Happy Mother's Day, mom." James said as he gave Natasha a great big hug.
"Thank you, sweetheart." Natasha said as she hugged her son then kissed her husband. "This is the best Mother's Day yet."
