Chapter 412

.

When Eve woke up on the couch she checked her smart-phone. 12:03 pm July 27th 2036. She'd slept for almost a full day, made sense, given her exhaustion. Hard to believe it had been barely a week since impact. She was hungry, Adam led her to the basement so they could find some breakfast. There seemed to be enough canned goods and tv dinners to last the rest of their lives. There was also bottles water, some soda and juice. Ravenwood refrigerators promised they would last for decades, but they'd likely be saving them for special occassions. There were also twinkies, legends said they had no experation date. They would also be used for special occassions. Eve also noticed something else. Six posters from the war. Asking for volunteers for the loyalist army, selling war bonds. One poster showed Brutus, Benedict Arnold, Judas Iscariot, president Douglas, and numerous collective soldiers, all burning in Hell. The caption read "Hell is too good for traitors." This reminded Eve of her anger at the loyalists, all the innocents who died at St Patrick's. And not only was Adam her enemy, he was bragging about it. All her hatred for Mason and his ilk came back upon seeing these posters, and she hit Adam. Eve kept hitting Adam, but he refused to fight back. They were supposses to be enemies, he should be killing her.

.

Eve: You bastard! You killed them!

Adam: I'm sorry. I had noinvolvement in the plague. But yes, I did kill collective soldiers. And you killed loyalists.

Eve: So, why on't you kill me?

Adam: Because I love you. And there is no more war. No boudries or noble causes. There are no armies, just tatterred rags of what were once uniforms. Discarded flags that represented causes which probably made sense once. There is nothing left to fight for, and few of us left to fight.

Eve: Then why do you keep these posters?

Adam: They are all I have left of my friends. Men and women who depended on me. I did horrible things to keep them alive, but I couldn't save them.

Eve: Because of me. Your friends are dead because of me and mine.

Adam: Yeah. But all I can see is the little girl I grew up with. The one who named the lobsters, then cried when she realized what they were there for. The worst thing I ever saw you do is smoke a ciggarette.

Eve: You weren't with me the whole time. By all rights I should be in Hell right now screaming in agony.

Adam: So should I. Why God would keep me alive all this time, much less bring you back to me, I do not know. But, we're here. So either we learn to live together, or we both die alone.
