Chapter 415
.
Every day Eve checked both her smart-phone and the computer. There were some from the Arks, other private shelters. But few from the outside. No matter how strong Elliot was, no matter how strong Anne's faith, noone could survive this much longer. Pope Peter II survived after impact, continued addressing the world. He was trying to give the people a message of hope, even as the Vatican became covered in ice. There were no new transmissions from Peter after August 6th. By August 21st there were no transmissions, even from the religious networks. They seemed to be stuck in an eternal loop, but for now they still broadcast. They were now reminders of a world lost forever. It seemed that, barely one month after impact, the outside world was dead.
Between Febuary 4th 2033 and impact almost everyone had trouble sleeping. The closer they got to impact, the more hard choices they had to make. One advantage of such a chaotic life for Eve was that she didn't have as much time to dwell on her sorrows, often collapsing from exhaustion every night. But now, in this ice-trapped home with little to do, she had a lot of time to remember. Amy, Nadia, Jamal, what she'd done to Karen, to the loyalist boy in Texas, failing to protect Lily, the Molochites at the church, becoming the drug-addicted whore for Caeser. These nightmares came flooding back. One night in late August, Eve woke up screaming from these memories. Adam quickly came to her. Eve apologized for disturing him, but he understood. His nightmares were just as real at times. Adam was leaving, but Eve asked him to stay in bed with her. She needed the comfort of an old friend right now.
