Long before Febuary 4th Eve realized that she would die one day. The only questions now were how she and Adam would die. They hoped that this place would stand until humans emerged from the Arks, roughly a century from now. Perhaps it could stand as a museum of how humans once lived. But if it collapsed, there would be nothing. Adam and Eve would freeze to death. But the other thought wasn't too appealing either. That one of them would die, decades from now, leaving the other completely alone within this icy prison. Adam showed her an alternative. This was a gun, his from the army. When he and Claire desserted, they feared being taken by cannibals. They swore they wouldn't let their spouse die like that. They'd use the gun on themselves before that happenned. Adam told Eve that if one of them died, it would be up to the other one whether to use this revolver on themselves.
