Chapter 418

.

Long before Eve was born September 11th had become a day of mourning. An anniversary of the worst terrrist attack in American history, before March 6th 2034. But today, the 35th anniversary, Eve would remember with joy. She was reading a book "Durkheim is dead." She didn't realize that sociology books could be funny. This was as close to college as she'd ever get. As Eve was reading Adam came to tell her something. He was excited, happier than anyone she'd seen in years. Adam had some very good news. They found Hope, Eve's daughter was alive. As soon as Eve heard the news she rushed to the computer. Buck was on the screen, he also smiled.

.

Eve: Is it true? Hope's alive?

Buck: Yes. She's in a New York Ark. She was hard to find because "Hope" is a popular name. Also because her adopted father gave Hope his last name.

Eve: Fair enough. So, what is her new name?

Buck: Hope Weber.

Eve: Weber? That sounds familiar.

Buck: Doctor Benjamin Weber. He came on the same bus as her, adopted Hope shortly after their arrival.

Eve: He delivered her. I want to thank him, maybe even see Hope.

Buck: Most Arks allow communications, but they limit this due to energy conservation. But I'll give you their signal, and wish you the best.

Eve: Thank you my friend.

.

Eve tried to contact the New York Ark. They still weren't able to directly contact dr Weber, or Hope, yet. But Eve knew she could be patient. Just knowing Hope was still alive, was the answer to countless prayers. Eve had already accepted that she would ever again touch her baby. But they could speak, and they could love each other. That was enough, more than enough really. Eve looked at Adam. He had reunited Eve and her daughter. He'd been through much, so had she. They were each other's first kiss. Eve decided to give her friend a gift, her complete trust. This night, they celebrated. Each ate a twinkie. After that, they made love for the first time.
