On October 7th Eve got a special gift. Adam had finally been able to arrange for a conversation between Eve, and dr Weber. Weber was even bringing little Hope. They had to limit the conversation to thirty minutes, but it was the first time she'd seen her daughter in six months. Eve was amazed. She'd known that Hope must've grown significantly, but she still wasn't prepared for this. Weber seemed to have taken a special shine to his new daughter. It seemed fitting, considering all he'd done for her back in the Brooklyn sector. Eve couldn't be sure, but it seemed like Hope actually recognized her. This filled Eve with a sense of optimism. She and Hope would never again touch, but they could talk, know each other's lives. And Eve knew that her baby would outlive her.
Eve thought about Hope later. The Ark's leaders tried these communications as often as they could, as their energy allowed. Siblings sent to different Arks tried keeping in touch this way. Eve could see Hope as she started school, had her first date, her wedding day, the day Eve became a grandmother. But she likely wouldn't be involved in Hope' day to day life. She would call Benjamin Weber "Dad." If he married, Hope would likely think of this woman as "Mom." Eve knew that might be for the best, but it wasn't easy. Dr Weber said he'd give Hope Eve's letter one day. He planned to not tell her about some of Eve's actions. Mainly he'd say that Eve helped build an Ark, and gave life to Hope. That seemd to be all she really needed to know. Eve would get to watch the baby grow up, but only from a distance.
