As night fell in both worlds each of them were faced with their own problems. The entire Land of Oz was covered in a thick sheet of ice. The temperature eventually stopped dropping at stayed at a solid cold temperature. The triplets seemed fine right now and somehow the triplets were warmer than the rest of them. The storm had been going on for hours now and it didn't seem to show any signs of stopping. Glinda was now standing in front of the windows of the chambers. The second great ice storm of Oz was indeed very strong and the ice was indeed very thick. She couldn't push the windows open at this point and even touching the windows left a frozen hand on its surface. Glinda sighed and walked over to the throne and sat down. Scarecrow, tin man, lion, the china princess and Marshall Mallow all walked into the room.
"Aislynn and Ellie are asleep, as well as the Teaks and Eliza, Emma however I think might still be awake and Em is tucking the triplets into bed." Scarecrow said walking over to the throne.
"That's good." Locasta said answering for Glinda.
"Anyways at least the temperature has finally stopped dropping." The china princess said.
"Quite right my dear." Marshall Mallow replied.
"Why don't I go check on Emma?" Glinda said getting up and walking out of the chambers rather quickly.
"What was that all about?" Lion asked curiously.
"She's a bit irritated as well as worried." Locasta said.
"I think that's perfectly reasonable." The tin man said sternly
"Hey metal mouth, no need to get an attitude!" Lion shouted.
"Hey! I'm not getting an attitude." Tin man said.
"Hey! Both of you stop arguing!" the china princess shouted.
Both the tin man and lion looked at the china princess for a minute. They both hung their heads in shame.
"Sorry." Lion said.
"Yea, sorry." Tin man said, his mood changing to one of regret.
"Right, you two, run along and go keep yourselves occupied." The china princess
Both of them saluted and ran out of the chambers rather quickly. This left Scarecrow, Locasta, china princess and Marshall Mallow alone. Scarecrow sighed and sat down on the throne. He then looked at his coat and noticed that his badges had developed a nice fog over them from the cold. Scarecrow chuckled and took off one of the badges and began rubbing it against his sleeve.
"Do you think the frost will make them polish nicely?" scarecrow asked curiously.
"I should assume so," The China princess said taking a pocket handkerchief from Marshall Mallow's pocket and rubbing it on her arm.
Scarecrow smiled and continued to rub the bag against his sleeve. Glinda returned after about ten minutes smiling rather contently.
"Emma is asleep now, gave her some extra blankets." Glinda said.
"That's good." Scarecrow said continuing to polish the medal and then looked at his reflection in it.
"Dorothy would laugh at you admiring yourself." The china princess said chuckling.
"You should talk." Glinda said laughing
"Oh be quiet Glinda, you told me you used to be like that when you were Ellie's age." China princess replied.
This in turn caused Locasta to giggle. Glinda shot her one of her rare, "if looks could kill," looks. Locasta immediately shut her mouth and turn around and giggle some more.
"Remind me to never tell you about my childhood again." Glinda said chuckling.
"Don't worry, I will." China princess said walking out dragging her husband with her.
"Sorry about her." Marshall Mallow shouted on his way out prompting the princess to drag him faster.
Glinda chuckled and sighed as she walked over to the scarecrow and plucking another badge from his shirt and polishing it with a handkerchief.
"Thanks." Scarecrow said chuckling.
"When was the last time you polished these?" Glinda asked curiously.
"A while I should think, I haven't really thought about it until they got some of the rainbow soot on them." Scarecrow said pinning the medal back to his shirt.
"Ah, um why do you wear all these anyway?" Glinda asked curiously.
"Makes me look flashy, and less boring looking." Scarecrow said.
Glinda smiled and chuckled. She then went back to polishing. She then looked out the window at the blurred visions of the storm and began to get a sinking feeling that something was wrong. Not in the city however, but she couldn't put her finger on it.
Meanwhile in Kansas.
Everyone in the farmhouse had fallen asleep wrapped in several extra blankets from the closet. Well almost everyone. Everyone but Dorothy was currently asleep Dorothy had woken up from her nap at around eight at night. She looked outside and noticed that the snow had lightened up slightly but it did look deep. She sighed and went into the living room carrying the scepter and her winter coat. She quietly pulled on her boots and was about to leave the house when she spotted Alex asleep at the table. She smiled and walked over to him as quietly as she could and kissed him on the cheek. She then went back over to the door and opened it, immediately she was met with a bitter, chilly wind as she walked outside. She quietly shut the door behind her and began trudging through the snow. The wind was still blowing rather hard. She continued to trudge as she saw a plow drive up the road. She smiled and made her way to the main road. When she finally got there she sight and tightened her grasp on the scepter. It was then that she noticed a strange orb of light floating in the middle of the road. She knew that was the orb of light from the scepter.
"If I can just reach it." Dorothy said to herself walking towards it.
She was vexed to find that like a rainbow the closer she got the farther away it got. She went at this till she was almost in town. Her face was now beginning to sting. She sighed and looked at the orb of light. It appeared to be teasing her trying to vex her. She was frustrated at this point and was beginning to feel rather mad at it at this point. She was also beginning to feel rather dizzy. She, however mustered up enough strength to soldier on.
"Dorothy Gale!" came the voice of the jester.
Dorothy turned back to see the jester standing several feet behind her. He was now wearing a large overcoat to protect him from the cold more than his endless set of costumes. He had a look of worry and concern on his face. He had indeed seen the orb of light. He himself had no idea what the orb did or what it was possibly meant to do. But going outside and wandering outside was dangerous. Even for him, he couldn't stand to be out here for more than five minutes. Dorothy sighed and turned back towards the orb. Leaning against the scepter for support she continued on her way towards the orb. This time the orb was getting closer as she trudged along. She began to get dizzier and dizzier and soon her vision was beginning to blur. She could see the orb hanging over the fountain in the middle of town.
"Aha." Dorothy said to herself as she trudged towards.
She began to feel herself grow faint. She managed to run a bit. Her vision began to get extremely blurred and her face and hands were stinging badly.
"Dorothy!" Came the voice of the Jester again, now desperate.
Dorothy ignored him and soldiered on. The jester out of desperation started trudging through the storm after her. As Dorothy finally reached the fountain she found that the orb was just out of reach even with the scepter. She tried to climb up the fountain and slipped, catching herself one part of the statue every time. Eventually she began to feel extremely faint. The jester himself finally made it to the fountain just as Dorothy out of desperation swung her arm hard and the scepter hit the orb of light. Dorothy immediately felt a stinging pain in her arm. A large rush of energy blew past both of them as the snowstorm came to an abrupt end. Dorothy chuckled weakly just as she blacked out and fell.
