Back at the hospital Dorothy had gotten all the information on the events that had happened in Oz and how they were definitely worse than things were there in Kansas. She was gladder that everyone was alright. She was glad that her cousins were safe and sound and most of all she was glad no one was harmed.

"Dorothy?" Came the voice of Doctor Maxwell.

"Yes doctor Maxwell?" Dorothy replied.

"Would you like anything to eat?" he asked curiously.

Dorothy looked at Alex and nodded. She was indeed hungry. And surprisingly was in the mood for fish.

"Yes thank you, you said you have canned sardines right?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"Yes, as part of the supplies that we got the day of the storm." Doctor Maxwell said.

"How many cans are there?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"Several, you'd be surprised how many people hate sardines, though they are extremely healthy and they do aid in a faster recovery." Doctor Maxwell said.

"Get me a few cans then please." Dorothy said.

"Would you like anything with that?" Doctor Maxwell asked curiously.

"More water?" Dorothy replied.

"Okay then, I'll be back." He replied waking away.

"I remember eating sardines as a kid, dad couldn't stand the smell of fish that it created." Alex said.

"Your dad doesn't approve of much." Dorothy said.

"Yea, but he seems to be becoming nicer, still doesn't talk to me much outside of the occasional scolding." Alex said.

"I'm assuming you got one when you sprained your wrist?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"Yep." Alex replied

Dorothy smiled and chuckled as Doctor Maxwell returned with a few cans of sardines and a nurse who was carrying a large pitcher or water. He walked over and set up the bed tray and set down the cans. Dorothy thanked him as the nurse set down the pitcher of water on the side table and walked out. Doctor Maxwell smiled and walked out leaving a plastic package of plastic ware behind. Dorothy smiled and opened up one of the cans of sardines with her good hand. Immediately her appetite took hold and before she realized it she had eaten two whole cans before Alex stopped her.

"Easy Dorothy, you'll get sick if you scarf down your food like that." Alex said

"Sorry, I'm just extremely hungry." Dorothy said.

"I would be too if I were practically in a coma for nearly two weeks." Alex said opening a can and helping himself to a few sardines.

"You know these things aren't half bad, and, if you don't mind me saying they sort of taste like chicken." Dorothy said licking her lips.

"Yes but now the room smells like fish." Alex said chuckling.

"I don't mind, I was a cat once." Dorothy said.

Both Dorothy and Alex burst into laughed at that remark for several minutes before Dorothy went back to eating. After she had finished a few more cans she was quite content and took several large drinks of water. She sighed and put the tray and unopened cans to the side before turning to Alex.

"Have you seen my face without the bandage on it?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"They change it daily before you put a rather nice gash on your forehead, don't worry, you look fine." Alex said.

"When will they change it again?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"Around noon." Alex replied.

"Okay then, have I been healing well?" Dorothy asked.

"There will be some rather nasty scaring I assume and like doctor Maxwell probably told you, you may end up needing prescription glasses because of damage to your eye but yes." Alex said.

"Thanks for reminding me, do you have a mirror?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"Are you sure?" Alex asked walking over to the side table and grabbing a hand mirror.

"I've seen worse I assume." Dorothy said.

Alex sighed and handed Dorothy the mirror. Dorothy sighed and took the mirror in her good hand and looked at her face in the mirror. Her eye was covered with a wad of cotton and an eye patch. Her forehead was wrapped in a thick layer of gauze bandage and it looked as if she had gotten her hair trimmed to keep it out of the way of the bandages.

"Oh, yes, I should have mentioned that." Alex said noticing her brushing at where hair would normally fall into her face.

"I don't mind, it will grow back, as long as I'm still able to put in pigtails I'll be fine." Dorothy said.

"That reminds me, the pigtails are cute and all but why do you always wear them?" Alex asked curiously.

Dorothy set down the mirror and looked at Alex for moment. She didn't have to say anything for Alex to know she didn't want to talk about it. Immediately however something dawned on him.

"Dorothy, stay right there I'll be right back." Alex said running out of the room.

"Don't worry, it's not like I can really go anywhere!" Dorothy called after him.

Dorothy sighed and laid back. She wished she had Toto here to keep her company. She looked at the cast that was on her right arm and tried to move her hand only to be met with a light stinging pain. She hardly remembered anything that happened when she blacked out. She knew however she had swung the scepter and her arm into something rather hard. She wasn't sure how she managed to break her leg however. She assumed that when she blacked out she must have caught her leg on something. It was then Alex returned with a large cart with bags and cards on it. Dorothy looked at it and was speechless.

"Don't worry, there's more, everyone heard what happened, most of this is from the kids at school." Alex said handing her several cards and a few bags.

"Alex, promise me that you'll go to school tomorrow." Dorothy said opening one of the cards.

"And tell everyone thank 'you on your behalf'?" Alex asked curiously.

"Bingo." Dorothy replied.

"Don't worry, your aunt has made Ellie Aislynn and I that we will go to school tomorrow anyways, I haven't really left this place much aside from attending my dance lessons." Alex said.

"I'm glad you'll be able to keep yourself amused." Dorothy said reading through the cards.

"Several people sent flowers and the kids who listen to your stories at the library made you a homemade card." Alex said.

"I'm flattered that there are so many people who care." Dorothy said.

"But nobody cares more than your family and me." Alex said.

Dorothy giggled and set down the cards on the side table. She then went through a few of the bags and pulled out several get well cards and several bouquets of flowers. Alex and Dorothy spent a few hours going through all the things. Dorothy was happy that so many people cared enough and was touched by the card that the kids from the library made her. The next thing they knew it was half past Eleven.

"Have any of the others ever showed up here?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"Your aunt and occasionally Glinda, Toto has apparently been missing you." Alex said.

"I wish Toto could be here with me, I could use some more company." Dorothy said.

No sooner had she said this did she hear barking. Dorothy turned her head a bit and immediately head Glinda's voice.

"Thank you doctor Maxwell but I know the way." She heard Glinda say.

A few seconds later Toto ran into the room and jumped up onto the hospital bed with Dorothy. Dorothy smiled and picked him up

"Toto." Dorothy said as he barked and licked her on the face.

Glinda and Ellie then appeared in the doorway. Ellie gasped rather shocked. She hadn't seen Dorothy at all before now. She had managed to get some information from Elena but she refused to tell her much. And Glinda wasn't much help either, the only reason why Glinda ever came here was to keep her under a dreamless sleep spell as to not interrupt her recovery. She walked over to her side and placed a hand on her cheek.

"Dorothy, never do something like that again." Ellie said sighing.

"Ellie, I'm not even sure why I did it to begin with." Dorothy said.

"Dorothy, we all miss you at home." Toto said licking her face again.

"Thanks boy, I was just hoping you could be here." Dorothy said.

"Dorothy, tell me why you thought it was a good idea to climb up on a fountain just to chase a ball of light?" Glinda asked curiously.

"I don't know Glinda, I'm not sure." Dorothy said.

"Where did it come from?" Glinda asked not even yielding.

"It came from the scepter just before it went dark." Dorothy said.

"Oh dear." Glinda said.

"Why?" Dorothy asked.

"Dorothy, did you by any chance feel that no matter what you had to find that orb?" Glinda asked curiously.

"Um, yes, I think so." Dorothy said trying to think about it.

"Then it wasn't completely your fault, the scepter was controlling you at that point." Glinda said.

"That doesn't sound good sis." Ellie said,

"No it happens to most people who are practicing sorcery, it's even happened to me." Glinda replied,

"Can I ask you to explain later?" Ellie asked curiously.

"Yes." Glinda said

"Glinda?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"Yes child?" Glinda replied.

"Thank you for not scolding me too much." Dorothy said.

Glinda smiled and walked over to Dorothy and placed a hand on her forehead. She then kissed Dorothy on the forehead lightly.

"Just don't do it again." Glinda said.

"Not planning on it." Dorothy said taking Toto in her good arm and hugging him against her chest

"Dorothy, you should be able to leave in a few days, but it's almost time to change your bandages again." Glinda said sighing.

"Well what about the casts?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"You'll just have to heal naturally, I won't be allowing you to have the scepter or the slippers until you recover completely." Glinda said rather sternly.

Dorothy sighed and grabbed a can of sardines and the plastic ware. She then cracked open the can and wolfed down the contents.

"Wow that is strong." Ellie said putting her hand over her face.

"Sorry I can't help being hungry." Dorothy said.

"Yes but I hate that smell." Ellie said backing away.

"Feline instincts, the liking of fish just hasn't gone away." Dorothy said setting the empty can to the side.

"Just don't turn into a cat again." Alex said.

"Not planning to." Dorothy said as the clock struck noon.

Immediately Glinda pulled out her wand and waved it. Just as Doctor Maxwell walked in Elena appeared with her medical bag.

"It's time again." Elena said looking at Doctor Maxwell.

"I know." Doctor Maxwell said walking over to Dorothy and pulling out a pair of shears.

Elena Smiled and walked over to Dorothy. She then immediately began removing the eye patch while Doctor Maxwell cut off the bandages around her head. Dorothy sighed and reached over to the hand mirror and picked it up. Elena immediately reached over and held down Dorothy's hand. Dorothy however hissed like a cat and made Elena back up. Dorothy gasped and drew back immediately.

"Elena I'm so sorry." Dorothy said.

"Dorothy, it's alright Alison warned me that this might happen, it's only temporary." Elena said.

Dorothy sighed with relief and picked up the mirror again. She held it up to her face. It was badly scratched and her eye was badly blacked out. As Doctor Maxwell replaced the dressings on her head Elena rummaged through her bag and pulled out some more cotton and was about to place it on Dorothy's eye when Dorothy pushed her away. She actually liked being able to see.

"It doesn't really matter if she has the patch on at this point, the damage is done at this point, it will heal naturally, but it's really noticeable." Elena said drawing back.

"Who cares?" Dorothy and Alex asked in unison.

"Oh yea, you don't have vanity issues." Elena said.

"Right, Glinda take Toto and Ellie back home." Dorothy said.

"Dorothy I want to stay." Toto said whimpering.

"I'm sorry boy, but you need to be at home, helping Eve." Dorothy said kissing him on the nose.

Toto whimpered as Dorothy put him down and he walked over to Glinda.

"Elena, I actually want you to stay the night since Alex has to return to his house he has school in the morning." Glinda said.

Elena nodded and saluted. Glinda sighed and picked up Toto before she and Ellie walked out of the room. Toto was whimpering in her arms before it immediately fell silent. Doctor Maxwell sighed and finished wrapping the bandage.

"I'll call your dad to come get you." He said starting for the door and walking out.

"Okay" Alex replied sighing.

"Alex?" Dorothy asked curiously.

"Yea?" Alex replied.

"Promise me you'll come here after school tomorrow." Dorothy said.

Alex chuckled and walked back over to Dorothy's side. He then kissed her on the cheek. She blushed and purred contently.

"I promise I'll come back." Alex said.

"You should go wait, don't worry, she'll be fine, and I'll make sure she doesn't get too lonely." Elena said.

"Yes mam." Alex said kissing Dorothy one more time and walking out.

Dorothy sighed and closed both her eyes. Her bad eye was rather sore but it was alright. She was content that she was alright and that her family and friends. And one thing that bothered her was that the jester saved her. She knew he had morality issues but this was just odd. Even for him. She opened her eyes and looked at Elena. She knew this was going to be long day as well as a long night until tomorrow afternoon.

Well then, Dorothy is a mess this time. But that leads to a good question.

Dorothy: yea, why did the jester save me? And more importantly why am I the one who gets injured.
Me: Because you're the heroine, and um, well realistically I'm pretty sure falling off the fountain would have killed you.
Dorothy: I've got a black eye, a dedicated boyfriend, and very loyal friends, and I'm getting cat like attributes back as well.
Me: Like Elena said it's only temporary.
Aislynn: Hey do I get any more scenes with the scarecrow?
Me: Oh ace, of course you do.
Ace: Yay.
Me: well this fourth wall break is over, Good night everybody see you in the next chapter.
