The next morning came and Dorothy awoke at around four AM. She found Elena sitting asleep in a chair by the door. She looked at the bedside clock and saw the time. She also noticed a pad of paper and a pencil. She was still able to see quite well in the dark and decided to sketch out of sheer boredom. She didn't know what she was going sketch at first, eventually she just began sketching things as they popped into her mind, Alex, her friends, the room, really anything that popped into her mind. after an hour and a half she had five sketches, one was of her and Alex, one of her friends, one of Toto, one of the room and one of the sun rising outside which she could see out the window. Dorothy sighed and laid back, soon a knock came on the door which woke up Elena. She looked at Dorothy and sighed before opening the door. As she did, in came Mr. Foreman, Auntie Em, and Doctor Maxwell.
"I told you she'd be awake." Em said happily.
"Auntie Em, Mr. Foreman what are you two doing here so early?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"I wanted to come and check on you, Henry suggested I take Jon with me." Em said taking a hand out from behind her back and revealing a large paper bag.
"What's in the bag?" Dorothy asked curiously
"What Jon suggested I bring with me? That's what." Em said teasingly.
"And what did Jon suggest?" Dorothy asked looking at both of them now.
Immediately Em walked over and set the bag down in Dorothy's lap, immediately a bark came from the bag. Em chuckled and pushed down the bag revealing Toto and pockets. Dorothy gasped and took them both into her good arm. She gave them a quick squeeze before signaling for her aunt to come closer. Em did this and was immediately pulled into a hug.
"Toto was miserable without you." Mr. Foreman said.
"And pockets?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"She wouldn't leave Toto alone, she seemed to be trying to cheer him up." Mr. Foreman said.
"He seemed a little down." Pockets said
"I was down, I only got to see Dorothy for a few minutes of course I was upset." Toto said.
Dorothy chuckled and kissed Toto on the nose. Toto barked happily and licked Dorothy on the cheek. Pockets however jumped back into the bag and poked her head out causing everyone to share a chuckle.
"Alex promised he would come after school today, which reminds me auntie Em you should head home, someone needs to watch the triplets while uncle henry brings Aislynn to school." Dorothy said.
"Actually he'll be bringing Ellie and Aislynn to school, she stayed the night." Em said.
"Alright, anyways back to the point, you two should go, I guess Toto and pockets can stay." Dorothy said grabbing one of the unopened cans of sardines and cracking it open filling the room with the scent of fish.
"Okay point received, I'll come back sometime around noon." Em said kissing her niece on the cheek.
Dorothy smiled and began wolfing down the can sardines. Em and Mr. Foreman left shortly afterward leaving Pockets and Toto with Dorothy and Elena.
Meanwhile in Oz.
Glinda had returned to the Emerald city after visiting her parents. Her dad was most definitely not running out of outfits. She returned to the emerald city at around one in the morning and stayed up all night. She stayed in the chambers staring out at the windows the scenery of Oz still looked beautiful at night even with the ice still there. Glinda was getting lost in her own thoughts when she felt someone short embrace her from behind. She smiled and looked back to see Emma hugging her. I took her a few minutes however to register that Emma had tears in her eyes.
"Emma, sweetie, what's wrong?" Glinda asked worriedly.
"I miss my mother and father." Emma said sniffing.
"Ah, I see, you're homesick." Glinda said kneeling down in front of her wiping the tears from her eyes.
Emma nodded and hugged Glinda tightly. Scarecrow, who had heard the conversation came out of the workshop.
"She's homesick, we can't send her home, can you contact them?" Scarecrow asked curiously.
"I wish, the protection Locasta and I put up, only Locasta can do anything only she can get there and we can't risk the jester breaking through and harming them." Glinda said
"But I miss them." Emma said hugging Glinda tighter.
"Well, how about this, why don't you, go back to your room, make a get well card for Dorothy and we can go to Kansas together later and we can visit Dorothy, would you like to do that?" Glinda asked curiously.
Emma pushed herself away from Glinda before sniffing and nodding. Glinda then patted Emma on the shoulder and sent her off. Glinda smiled and decided she was going to go to Dorothy's room and grab some of her things.
Later back in Kansas
When Alex, Ellie and Aislynn arrived at school it seemed that everyone wanted to ask them questions about Dorothy. However no one wanted to mess with Alex so things got rather silent as class went on. However notes with questions about Dorothy kept getting passed to Alex and Ellie. Mr. Pryce didn't seem to mind. However all of them were happy when lunch came along and Ellie, Alex, Aislynn, Donna and Mr. Pryce were left alone. Alex was enjoying his sandwich when Mr. Alistair and Mr. Upland came in. Alex couldn't help but laugh at Mr. Uplands outfit. He appeared to be almost ready for a safari had he not been wearing bright red slacks. He had a pith helmet strapped around his neck and the rest of the safari getup including the boots.
"Dad." Ellie said a bit embarrassed
"Ellie." He said back teasingly.
"Good afternoon Mr. Upland, hello uncle." Alex said swallowing a bit of his sandwich.
"Good afternoon Alex." They both replied in unison.
"So, how's Dorothy doing?" Mr. Pryce asked curiously.
"She's well, I promised I'd visit her after school." Alex said.
"Oh can we come?" Donna asked curiously.
"You won't stop bugging me until I say yes, so yes, but don't swamp her with questions or anything, she's only got the use of one arm and leg at the moment, and her eye and face are pretty badly bruised." Alex said.
"We'll be careful, anyways Toto and Pockets were brought there by Em this morning." Ellie said.
"Oh that's nice." Alex said taking another bite out of his sandwich.
Alex then proceeded to eat his sandwich in silence. When he finished he got up and stretched.
"I can't wait to go see Dorothy after school today." He said groaning a bit.
"I can't either, Kelly wanted me to give Dorothy this little get well card she made in art class." Donna said pulling out a light blue envelope.
Alex chuckled and walked over to his cousin. He tried to snatch the envelope away but Donna quickly pulled it away.
"Oh no, Kelly wanted me to deliver this to Dorothy myself." Donna said.
Alex snapped and sighed in defeat before sitting down. It was then that the bell rang signifying the end of lunch.
Meanwhile back at the hospital.
Dorothy had spent most of the day napping and eating. She allowed Pockets half a can of tuna to herself which made her quite full and content. Elena had taken to wandering about the hospital helping those she could much to Doctor Maxwell's dismay. Dorothy was now lying down on the hospital bed with a book that Doctor Maxwell had brought her while Pockets was napping on her lap and Toto was standing guard by the door. School would be over in a few hours and Alex would show up shortly after. She then began thinking about the book she was reading, she had begun to get really good at doing things with one arm. However she was snapped out of these thoughts with the sound of knocking on the door.
"Come in." Dorothy said setting down the book.
Slowly the door and Emma poked her head in. Dorothy smiled pushed herself into a sitting position. She then patted down on the bed. Emma smiled and walked in. sitting down on the bed she handed a folded up piece of paper to Dorothy. Dorothy giggled and unfolded the piece of paper. It was a picture of herself. Along the top it said 'get well soon, love Emma.' Dorothy smiled and wrapped her good arm around Emma.
"How did you get here?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"I'm here with Glinda, she's currently looking for Elena." Emma said picking pockets up off of Dorothy's lap.
"Ah, thank you for the card." Dorothy said.
Emma smiled for moment and then hugged Dorothy tightly. This however caused Dorothy to feel a slight bit of pain causing her to wince. Emma gasped and pulled away quickly.
"Dorothy, I'm so sorry, did I hurt you?" Emma asked worriedly.
"A little, but its fine," Dorothy said adjusting her position again.
"Dorothy I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." Emma said tearing up.
"Emma, it's alright, I'm fine." Dorothy said running her hand through Emma's hair.
"You sure?" she asked curiously.
"Yes I'm sure." Dorothy said giggling.
"That's good." Came the voice of the jester.
Immediately the jester appeared in the room carrying a large vase of flowers which he set down on the bedside table. Emma quickly jumped off the bed and ran over to the door.
"What do you want?" Dorothy asked sounding slightly irritated.
"Oh, just bringing some flowers, and I want an answer, I told you not to go after that orb of light, why then did you go after it?" The jester asked curiously.
Dorothy opened her mouth to say something when immediately Glinda and Elena ran into the room.
"What is he doing here?" Elena asked rather angrily.
"All of you calm down, Toto come here." Dorothy said looking over at her dog.
Toto barked and ran over. Glinda whipped out her wand and aimed it at the jester.
"Glinda put down your wand, I mean no harm coming here." The jester said.
Glinda sighed and lowered her wand. The jester sighed and conjured a chair to sit down on.
"Before I answer your question, I just wanted to thank you for saving my life." Dorothy said.
"Don't mention it." The Jester replied.
"anyways, I don't really know why I went after the orb, for whatever reason something compelled me to continue after it, I don't quite know why, Glinda has explained to me that it wasn't entirely my fault but she won't explain to me more than that" Dorothy said sighing
"That's not a surprise." The jester said turning to Glinda.
"My question is why did you save me? I'm under the impression you actually want me dead." Dorothy asked curiously.
The jester looked at the girl for a moment in silence and sighed.
"I saved you because, well of course I want you dead, but I would have felt bad letting you die out of your own stupidity, besides you saved me from that tornado years ago." The jester replied.
"Well then, we're even, but you still jumped into it after the scepter, but I'm not going to question it." Dorothy said smiling.
"Well then, that's all I wanted to know" he said vanishing chair and all.
Dorothy looked at where the jester had just been. She then sighed with exhaustion and laid back.
"I think that his morality issues are really messing up his mind, anyways, I need a nap, wake me up when Alex, and most likely Ellie or someone like that show up." Dorothy said sighing and closing her eyes.
Emma looked at Glinda and smiled, she was now quite content with having given a get well card to Dorothy. She then giggled and walked over to the bed setting Pockets down on Dorothy's chest.
"Well, I'm going to take Emma to the gale farmhouse, Elena, keep an eye on her." Glinda said as she and Emma vanished.
Well this is the first two part in a while. Now a reviewer asked a really good question. They were wondering if I could do a brief AlexXscarecrow thing in the story. I could, but the thing is I'm not sure how I would ever factor that in. really the only purpose I've given Alex besides being Dorothy's boyfriend is to give him a warm, touching, loving moment with his father for a later chapter. Anyways, before other reviewers give hate for the idea of a brief AlexXscarecrow thing I stand for the "everyone is entitled to like what they like" kind of thing. Anyways before this becomes too boring and rambling I'm going to start writing the next chapter.
