Disclaimer, you know.
Early the next morning Dorothy awoke and managed to stagger to her chair. Her vision was now slightly blurry. She picked her reading glasses up off the table and went out into the living room. When she got there she was surprised to find Alex, sitting alone. Dorothy brought the chair over to him.
"That was a very brave thing you did." Dorothy said kissing him on the cheek.
"I know, come on, they left me here so that I could be your escort to the city, I know you said the jester won't bother you again until you recover, but everyone is worried since the fire." Alex said getting up and grabbing her hand and the back of the wheelchair.
Dorothy then immediately felt herself lurch forward. She began to feel dizzy and sick until she felt the wheelchair land. Neither she nor Alex fell over but the wheelchair did scoot forward a bit. There was a table set up in the middle of the chambers with all her friends as well as her aunt, uncle, her cousins even had their own little highchairs. Dorothy brought her chair over to the table and caught her breath. Alex sat down next to her. Dorothy looked across her and she waved to Eliza who they seemed to have gotten here early and was going to be staying with Alex for the next week. Eliza waved back and smiled. Glinda coughed and tapped her wand against the table like a conductors baton
"So, meeting to order then." Glinda said.
"Right, so, the fire, scary thought, but apparently it wasn't even the jester's fault he just helped put it out." Scarecrow said shivering.
"Yes, and thank goodness I wasn't there, we would have needed rescuing." Dorothy said.
"Well from what I heard Alex did some rescuing of his own." Scarecrow said looking at him.
"Yes sir, he pulled Aislynn out of the school." Ellie said.
"And for that I thank him." Scarecrow replied.
"Do they know how long the repairs on the school will take?" the china princess asked curiously.
"Once the snow all melts they can get started, so basically the spring, but officer grey and Mr. Alistair are looking for a temporary location." Henry said.
"That's good, nothing is more important than an education." Wiser said.
"Alex, why did you run in there after Aislynn?" Alyssa asked looking over at him.
"Because when we evacuated the school I realized Ace wasn't with us, so I being the fool that I am ran in to save her." Alex said.
"Alex you are not a fool, imagine what might have happened I you hadn't gone back in there." Mrs. Teak asked looking at her son.
"Imagine the fact that he could have wound up needing rescuing as well." Mr. Teak said turning to his wife.
"True as that may be, he still rescued me." Aislynn said still a little shaken.
"Ace, I pretty much carried you out of the school, imagine what Dorothy would say if you had been hurt." Alex replied.
"Alex?" Dorothy said.
"Yes dear?" Alex replied.
"Don't talk about how things may have gone, it sort of scares me." Dorothy said shivering a bit.
"Sorry dear." He replied.
"Now back to the subject, the jester showed up at your house and has promised not to bother you again until you are completely recovered, do we know whether or not we can trust him?" Elena asked.
"Good point sis, can you trust him?" Alyssa asked.
"Well, he held up on his word when Mrs. Gale was pregnant with the triplets didn't he?" Brianna asked curiously.
"Yes, and then he trapped us in a forest." Dorothy replied.
"I think it was more woods than it was a forest." Aislynn said.
"Is there a difference?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"Probably, but I don't want to get us off topic again." Aislynn replied.
"Right, well, wait a minute, Dorothy why are you wearing your reading glasses?" Tin man asked as his mood went from one of someone who was getting impatient to one that was curious.
"Because my vision was rather blurred this morning, surprisingly these have helped a lot." Dorothy said taking them off and wiping the lenses on her nightgown.
"How's your vision now kid?" Lion asked worriedly.
"It's still a little blurry but I was told I may end up needing prescription glasses because of the extent of my injuries." Dorothy replied putter her glasses back on.
"Oh, okay then." Lion replied.
"Dorothy, we'll take you to get some new glasses once you've recovered." Henry said
"Thanks, but I think I can manage once I'm able to walk again, there's a glasses shop here in the city that I can go to." Dorothy said turning to her uncle.
"Anyways back on subject, did they figure out what caused the fire?" Alison asked finally looking up from her book.
"Alison, I would assume not, neither the gales, the Teaks or Glinda have been told anything yet though." Caitlyn said turning to her comrade.
"Chrissy, since the rest of your comrades have put in some input why don't you say something?" Alyssa asked curiously.
"Because I can't think of something that hasn't already been said, anyways this meeting is getting a bit off track isn't it?" Chrissy asked curiously.
"Indeed, there isn't really much left to talk about is there?" Glinda asked.
"Not really, so I guess the meeting can be adjourned." Scarecrow said turning to the sorceress.
"Right, if there is there's nothing left to be said, then meeting adjourned." Glinda said as the table vanished.
"Right well, if that's all, I'm going to head to my room and change into some day clothes." Dorothy said bringing her wheelchair towards the door.
"Would you like some assistance dear?" Em asked curiously.
"That would be nice auntie Em." Dorothy said turning to her.
"Can I help?" Annabella asked finally saying something
"Sorry Annabella, maybe if you were a few years older, come on auntie Em." Dorothy replied.
Em smiled and got up and followed her niece out of the chambers. Alex got up and was about to follow after them when he was stopped by scarecrow. He then kissed Alex on both cheeks hugged him tightly. Alex backed away out of surprise and looked at Aislynn who was giving him the "I told him to do that" look.
"It's a way of saying thank you for saving ace, I'm sure everyone knows by now that I love her." Scarecrow whispered into his ear.
"And I'm sure you'll have Dorothy's blessing." Alex whispered back before running after Dorothy.
"What was that all about?" Annabella asked.
"It's a foreign thing." Aislynn said turning to her.
"What does that mean?" Annabella asked curiously.
"I'll explain later." Aislynn said getting up and walking over to scarecrow.
Annabella nodded and smiled. She then got up and walked over to her dad.
"Why do you have to be so negative about what Alex did?" She asked curiously.
"Because he could have been seriously hurt dear." Mr. Teak said picking up his daughter.
"But daddy, he's a hero." Annabella said hugging her father.
"I know, I know but I told you how it could have gone he could have been trapped himself, but your still a little too young to understand." Mr. Teak replied.
Annabella looked at her mother and sighed. She understood way more than anyone was giving her credit for.
Well, next chapter will be a flash forward to a few weeks. In the next chapter Dorothy will be for the most part be completely recovered. Anyways, have you guessed what Ellie whispered in Dorothy's ear yet?
