"Dad?"
"Rin what's the matter?" Santo could tell the panic in his daughter's voice.
"I think I took the wrong bus." She whimpered
"What? Okay where are you?" He asked
"I don't know but there's a fountain, and a bunch of girls in these puffy yellow dresses." Rin explained as she watched a group of girls walk by as if they were a pack of wolves.
"..."
"Dad?"
"Rin, honey you're at the right place, that's Ouran academy. They have a fountain and the girls wear ugly yellow dresses." He explains gently
"You're kidding!" She yelled looking at the fountain horrified as if the thing would swallow her up and drown her "dad, what high school has a fountain?"
"Well it's a very rich school Rin."
"I thought you meant rich in education! Rich minds! Not we have so much moo la we can blow it all on a fountain!" Rin made wild gestures with her hand earring a few stares from passerby's
"Rin when do I ever use metaphors?" He asked
"Can I go next week? Please dad? I'm scared." Rin held her arm "it's so weird here."
"You were fine when I dropped you off. What's the matter?" He asked
"You okay?" Santo asked turning to his daughter who was staring at the bus stop "want me to drive you there? Walk you up? Give you a pep talk?"
"No I'm okay." She shrugged nonchalant. "It's just a school." She hopped out of the car. "Love you dad bye" Rin said before she shut the door
"Love you to Rin! Go get em'!" Santo gave her a fist pump before driving off.
"That was before I saw the place!" She exclaimed
"Even if it's scary Rin it's gonna be just as scary next week." He tried to comfort her "come on what's so bad? Isn't it kinda cool? All your friends back home are gonna be so jealous that you get to go to such a neat school right?"
"But dad no one is going to like me..." Rin sighed "I miss Iris... I wish she was here..."
"Why not? You're a nice person." He assured her "come on it's not hard to make friends."
"Yeah but dad me and these girls are on two totally different wavelengths." Rin whined as she ended up sitting on a bench placing her bag between her legs.
"How so?"
"Their rich, I'm not." She stated simply pinching the bridge of her nose. "No one wants to hang out with the girl who couldn't even afford to get a private limo to drive her to school."
"Okay first off, they don't have ANY money, their parents have money, you have money Rin, you earned your own money." Santo argued
"Dad it's 17 dollars." Rin subconsciously patted her bag containing her wallet
"So? It's 17 dollars more than those kids have." He argued "come on Rin, just give the kids A chance. Maybe you'll make new friends today. Don't you remember how everyone wanted to be friends with the foreign exchange student at your old school?"
"Yeah..." Rin sighed
"Well there ya go! Just try talking to people okay? Your gonna be fine." Santo assured her
"Okay dad... I'll try."
"Good girl. Remember, you never know when or where you're going to find a friend." Santo gave her a mental pat on the head "I love you hon'"
"Love you to dad." Rin clicked her phone shut and stood up with a determined look on her face "these people aren't so different from me! I just have to smile and be friendly!" She pumped her fist in the air "I can do this!"
Suddenly a cherry red Ferrari sprayed her with a muddy puddle, completely covering her in mud.
"...great..."
Thank god the Ferrari had stopped, it ended up being her first period teacher. Who was so sorry about her uniform. She gave her a spare set that was a bit to big, and offered to have her original ones cleaned, she also allowed her to skip first period to shower off.
"Okay... Ladies showers..." Rin pushed the door open tripping over the to big pants. As she stumbled into the restroom. Or should she say shower palace. The entire thing was decorated with gold and there sinks were enormous, and the bathtubs looked like small ponds and every single shower was one of the rain showers that shoos water out from the walls. And what exited Rin the most...
"Oh my god!" She grabbed the bar of hand soap "their shaped like seashells!" She held it in her hand in wonder and sniffed it "mmmm! Lavender!" She squealed. After messing with the soap for a little while she set it back down. "Well I better hurry up I only have 1st period to get clean." Thankfully most of the mud missed her hair thanks to her beanie, just a quick scrub and she'll be good to go!
She grabbed a towel from the towel rack and some soaps from the cabinet marked 'please help yourself'
Rin stripped down and jumped in the shower "Okay how does this work?" She looked at the various knobs and buttons on the wall. "This is far to complex for a shower..." Suddenly the entrance door squeaked as it opened. Rin heard a small gasp from the person who entered.
"Oh wow... This seems a little much for a simple shower." And the voice that said this did not sound like a girl.
Rin peeked out to see a boy standing there with short brown hair and brown eyes marveling at the bathroom.
Rin's face turned purple 'holy crap can this day get any worse!?' She yelled in her head putting fists in her hair 'what if he's a peeping tom? What if he sees me naked? What if he sees my hair? Oh no... What if I'm in the wrong room?!' Rin watched the boy take off his jacket and struggle to remove his tie 'oh I can't watch him undress!' She thought covering her eyes with her hand. Suddenly a shampoo bottle rolled under the door into Rin shower. 'Oh no!" Rin though panicked. Before he could come into the stall and get it Rin kicked it back out earning a gasp from the boy. Without so much as a thank you he picked it up and walked into a stall.
'Okay Rin calm down... Just breath.' Rin tried to calm herself down 'you just have to finish showering before he does okay? He'll never know a thing!' Rin turned on the shower and began scrubbing the mud off her face.
After 5 minutes Rin successfully got all the mud off of her body. 'Now it's time to get out of here' she thought wrapping her towel around her body after giving it a quick shake through the hair. But just As she stepped out the boy stepped out to clad in a towel wrapped around his entire body... Wait if he's a boy why is his towel... Oh! But then Rin suddenly panicked when she realized her hair was exposed. The girl looked at her with the same wide eyed expression as her
"Please don't tell anyone!" They shouted at each other at the exact same time. Now instead of shocked faces they were confused faces
"Don't tell anyone what?" Rin asked tilting her head to the side
"That I'm I girl, please I have a debt to pay to the host club and if everyone knows I'm a girl I won't be able to pay them back." She explained
"... A host club?" Rin raised a brow "what are you talking about?"
"Wait you've never heard of it?" She sounded surprised "you know it's all those guys flirting with girls all day?"
"... That's weird..." Rin shook her head in confusion
"At least someone thinks so..." She sighed "so you really haven't heard of them before now?"
"Today's my first day." Rin explained "I'm an exchange student from America."
"Oh that explains why you've never heard of them before." She shrugged "what's your name?"
"I'm Rin Nakatani." I smiled "and you are?"
"I'm Haruhi Fujioka." She stuck out her hand and Rin shook it
"Nice to meet you Haruhi." Rin smiled warmly. "I won't tell anyone you're a girl... As long as you don't tell anyone about my hair."
"Yeah... How did that happen?" Haruhi asked looking at her bald spot "if you don't mind me asking."
"Umm... Well I was blowing out my birthday candles, and my barrette broke and my hair fell into the flame and caught on fire." Rin explained sheepishly "kinda stupid huh?"
"Did you get burned?" Haruhi asked
"No my dad threw a pitcher of lemonade at my head before it could get to close." Rin giggled "I never really liked lemonade until then, although the lemonade did burn my eyes."
"Ouch." Haruhi said.
"Yeah, it's kinda funny..." Rin chuckled "so... Why do you have to pretend to be a guy again?"
"Well, I broke their 8 million yen vase and-"
"Whoa wait a minute!" Rin stopped her mid-sentence "8 million yen for a vase?"
"Yeah I know right?" Haruhi agreed
"Wow... A school club had a vase that valuable? And I thought the fountain was a bit much..." Rin laughed
"I couldn't even afford a school uniform, I have no choice but to work it off." Haruhi shrugged
"Wait so you're not filthy rich either?" Rin blurted out then slapped a hand over her mouth realizing what she just said "I'm so sorry! That came out wrong! I meant-"
"It's fine, I understand what you mean." Haruhi stopped her "I'm here on a scholarship."
"Oh wow you're probably like a genius or something huh?" Rin smiled "there's no way I'd be smart enough to get in with my grades, especially math, my sister's mother in law paid for my admission."
"So... I guess your heir to a fortune then?"
"Oh no! There's no way I'll inherit anything from her, she absolutely hates me." Rin said almost cheerfully "I was going to go to the Ouran high school but she made me go to Ouran academy so I wouldn't embarrass the family."
"Oh...I see." Haruhi nodded.
Rin looked at the whole situation and started giggling
"What's so funny?" Haruhi asked
"Well I thought you were a boy when you walked in here so I thought I was in the wrong room. I was really scared." She laughed heartily.
"That is kinda funny." Haruhi joined her in laughter "I thought no one was in here until you kicked the shampoo bottle."
Rin sighed as her laughing subsided. She didn't feel self-conscious about her hair at all around Haruhi, she could feel that she wasn't judging her for it. She felt at ease. "Well we should probably put on some clothes."
"Yeah." Haruhi agreed
Haruhi and Rin walked up to the school together, chatting about various things. They had to part ways to go to class but agreed to meet up for lunch by the fountain.
"So you just talk to a bunch of girls all day." Rin stated taking a bite of her sandwich as Haruhi finished explaining exactly what a host club was.
"Yeah, it's really weird." Haruhi said
"I'll bet, I've never heard of a club like that." Rin giggled "I guess this school is going to be way different than I thought."
"So do you like your classes so far?" Haruhi asked
"Yeah, the teachers are nice. I just have to get used to communicating in Japanese." Rin smiled, then frowned "I'm just worried about math. I wasn't good at it to begin with and now that I have to write it in a different language makes it a lot harder."
"If you need help with math I can tutor you, if you want." Haruhi offered
"You... You'd do that?" Rin smiled softly.
"Yeah sure, I really like math." She smiled.
"Wow thank you Haruhi." Rin smiled "that's very kind of you." Rin looked at Haruhi as she ate her food. 'I guess dad was right, you never know when where or how you'll find a friend.'
"And then about a week later I met you guys."
"Wow Rin we didn't know you were such a pervert." The twins said "Watching Haruhi change."
"Hey!" Rin pointed her chopsticks at the twins threateningly "I said I covered my eyes didn't I?"
Phew! Finally got some time to sit down and edit this puppy.
So I hope Rin and Santo made it Clear that this story will no longer be calle the new student but instead Behind/ under the hat.
