Chloe McQueen: Spy Car Chapter 11
After the lemons were arrested and put in custody, Chloe asked to be alone with Lightning, who was still in shock. Chloe shook him to snap him out of it.
"You're a spy?!" Lightning said.
"I know I know, but I couldn't tell you since, well you know."
"I just can't believe that..."
"Look, I know that you're upset but..."
"Upset? Why would I be upset?"
"Because Mater, sort of, went through the same thing."
"Chloe, I was worried about Mater because he didn't know what he was getting into, but you do."
Chloe smirked. "So I'm worth less than your best friend?"
Lightning laughed "Of course not."
"So you're okay with me being a spy?"
"Of course! Remember when we were kids and I always wanted to be a race car?"
"Yeah, you got pretty banged up sometimes."
"And you were the only one who still encouraged me, regardless of your own feelings."
"My own feelings?"
"Oh please, you were always worried for me, in fact you once stayed up all night just to make me some cookies when I came back from practicing."
"First off, I was studying for college anyway, and second, I used the cookies as an alibi so that mom and dad wouldn't kill you for sneaking out and racing again."
Lightning just smiled. "You never told me to stop believing, now I'm going to return the favor."
"Aren't you forgetting something?"
"What?"
"The fact that I just saved your life."
Lightning blushed. "Sorry, thank you so much sis."
"Better late than never."
"By the way, you were pretty awesome back there."
"Aw come on, you didn't even see most of the fight."
"I know, but I saw the damage you did to those rotten lemons."
Chloe laughed. "Well, nobody hurts my brother."
"Chloe, you're the best."
Then brother and sister hugged each other for the longest time, or until Mater interrupted them.
. . .
The next day, Chloe and Rod were back in Detroit and filed their report to Chief Router.
"Well done agent McQueen, considering it's your first field assignment."
"Is that supposed to be a compliment?" Chloe asked.
"You'll get used to it." Rod said.
"Now, I have one more assignment for you two to get working on."
"What is it sir?"
"Paperwork."
. . .
"This is the only part of the job that I absolutely hate." Rod groaned.
"I don't mind, it's pretty much like my old job." Chloe said.
"Well, the work load is pretty different."
"Done! Now if you'll excuse me, there's a movie marathon with my name on it."
"Hold it rookie, that's just the first pile, there's 10 more to go."
Rod pointed behind her and sure enough, there were many more piles waiting to be sorted.
"Well that's just great."
"Just like your job on the mission."
Chloe smirked. "Thanks Rod."
"But you still have a long way to go."
"I know, and I'll do my best."
"Great, now do you think you can get me some water?"
"Really?"
"All right, I'll get us both waters." Rod laughed.
As he turned to go he said "Oh yeah, McQueen?"
"Yeah?"
"Welcome to CHROME."
"Thanks."
As Rod went to get water, he thought to himself, this rookie's gonna go far, hopefully.
