That night Dorothy found herself sitting on the window ledge in the chambers. She was looking up at the full moon. She had Toto and pockets sitting next to her. Soon the dark clouds would completely over take the skies of Oz and she would be fighting for her friends and family to keep the jester from taking everything she loves.
"Dorothy?" came Alex's from behind her.
"Alex?" Dorothy replied.
"Ellie wants to talk to you in her room." Alex said.
Dorothy smiled and got up. She, pockets and Toto walked back into the chambers.
"You two stay here with Alex." Dorothy said looking down at them.
The two of them nodded and sat down next to each other. Dorothy smiled and walked out of the chambers. It then occurred to her that she hadn't been in Ellie's room for so long. She wondered if anything had changed. Surprisingly things had indeed changed. Ellie's room was now a brighter shade of pink. She had a desk in her room similar to her sister's. She even had a miniature crystal ball like Locasta had. Ellie seemed prepared to take over her sister's job now. The one thing that really surprised her though was that Ellie now had a small silver wand sitting on her desk next to the pocket compendium that Glinda had given each of them. Ellie then walked out of her closet now wearing a dark pink dress and having tied her hair up in a ponytail. She walked over to Dorothy and smiled.
"You like it?" Ellie asked curiously.
"It's, it's nice, so, you have an object of power of your own now?" Dorothy asked referring to the wand.
"Alison made it for me, but yes, I figured that with the jester being ready to invade it was time to take up sorcery, I mean, my sister is a good witch and one of the most powerful in Oz, even if she was captured again." Ellie said sighing.
"I see, well Alex said you wanted to talk to me?" Dorothy said.
"Yes, remember long ago when I asked you to always treat me like normal old Ellie even though I am Glinda's sister?" Ellie asked curiously.
"Yes, yes I do." Dorothy said.
"Well, continue to treat me like normal, even if I am supposed to be in charge of things." Ellie said.
"Don't worry Ellie, to me you'll always be just normal old Ellie, I'll never treat you any differently than I do now." Dorothy said placing a hand on Ellie's shoulder.
"Thanks, is there anything you would like to talk about while you're here? I have to go talk to Locasta soon." Ellie said.
"Not really Ellie, but thanks." Dorothy replied.
"No problem, well, anyways, I'll talk to you later, right now I have to go talk to Locasta." Ellie said starting for the door.
"Ellie." Dorothy said as Ellie was about to leave.
"Yea?" Ellie replied.
"Don't worry about being leader, I'm sure it's not that bad if both the scarecrow, your sister and Locasta were able to do it." Dorothy replied before walking over to the door herself.
Meanwhile at the jester's hide out.
The jester was once more in his tower, watching the happenings in the emerald city in his crystal ball.
"Soon, now that Glinda is out of the way, soon Oz will fall to me when I invade and there is nothing Dorothy can do to stop me, she knows it's impossible to resist me at this point and I shall take away everyone she cares about until she does face me." He said turning to the cabinet that Glinda was in.
The puppet, with its emotionless face made the jester feel that he had taken the first move and it was the best one. Soon he would invade and soon all of Oz would be under his command. He began to laugh wickedly as he thought about this. Soon all would be his and Dorothy would be gone.
Back in the city.
Dorothy had returned to her seat on the window ledge in the chambers. The dark clouds were growing and were easily noticeable in the light of the full moon. She began to feel sad about what her actions had caused. She sighed and looked down at her feet. The ruby slippers were the first things she had ever used on her first trip to Oz, and now the events that these led to had spiraled out of control to the point they were at now. Toto and pockets had not joined Dorothy on the ledge this time for they were now silently asleep on the throne. Alex was standing behind Dorothy watching her as she sat there.
"Alex?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"Yes?" Alex replied.
"I think you should go check on your family, make sure they're okay." Dorothy replied.
"You do know that they're here in the city right?" Alex asked curiously.
"When did they get here?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"When we got here, didn't you seem them?" Alex asked curiously.
"No, of course not, but I was too busy being upset to noticing I guess." Dorothy said.
"They're currently at my room as far I know." Alex said.
"Well, I'm not." Annabella said running into the room and hugged Alex tightly.
"Well shows what you know." Dorothy said climbing back into the room.
"Oh be quiet Dorothy, Annabella you should be asleep, and it's long passed your bed time." Alex said.
"Alex, Mommy and Daddy think you should get some rest, Locasta is sending us home in the morning, not that it will keep us any safer than we are now." Annabella said.
Dorothy couldn't help but giggle at this, Annabella was definitely smart for one so young. She also seemed to know the risks.
"Annabella!" came the voices of Mr. and Mrs. Teak.
"I'm in here!" Annabella called.
Mr. and Mrs. Teak ran into the room and sighed with relief.
"Annabella you shouldn't run off like that." Mrs. Teak said.
"Sorry mommy." She replied.
"Mr. Teak, Mrs. Teak, Alex, Annabella, you guys should get some rest, I'm going to bed soon too." Dorothy said.
"That seems like a good idea, anyways Dorothy, we'll see you in the morning." Alex said as he walked out with his family.
Dorothy smiled and left the chambers herself. When she arrived at her room she slid the slippers off and walked over to her bed. As she laid down on the bed, before she fell asleep she began to think about the danger she was putting her friends and family in. as well as putting Oz and Kansas in danger. However she sighed and it wasn't long before she fell asleep.
