Disclaimer: I do not own Skye, Phil Coulson, Melinda May, Grant Ward, or FitzSimmons. I only own the variation I have created off of this very popular idea.
I firstly must thank Neeeeeal who, as the author of Turn Back Time, has done such a very interesting and lovely job on their story I wanted to give my attempt of it a go.
However, because I cannot find B.J. Britt's wiki page or his age, I'm going with Ward. But that's not the only reason. It's because with the Hydra plot, I see no room or logical way for this story to make sense. So... It's AUish. Ward isn't hydra. Yay! Because I really did love Ward.
Warning, MAY include Avengers. I upped the rating for my own comfort.
While Skye, Jemma, and Leo took their naps and Grant caught up on his reading in the living room while the adults held a private meeting in the conference room. Bruce protested at first, saying that Natasha needed to rest and stay in bed which Clint argued would never happen, until the argument got so tedious Bruce gave up on it. The red headed assassin sat in the chair, head resting against the back of it, watching as Thor and Clint thumb wrestled. They were all waiting for Hill to show up and hopefully she'd get there soon before the kids wake up.
Clint was leaned forward, glaring intently at Thor, though it really wasn't a challenge. Thor was as gentle as possible and he was still able to pin Clint's thumb down rather quickly, leaving him shocked and insisting upon another rematch tough Thor politely declined.
"Come on goldilocks, it's fun to see him whine like the pathetic loser he is," Tony says. However, before Thor or Clint could answer to that, the doors opened and Maria Hill entered the room, with files in hand. Everyone turned to look at her, as Hill passed the files out. Opening it, Coulson was met with the photo of a symbol. It was stitched into the shoulder of a uniform, a silvery blue circle with a fountain in it. It was definitely an image that none of them had seen before.
"I've got SHIELD trying to match it," Maria says, "But so far nothing."
May nodded, already moving on from the picture and looking through the file. There weren't many survivors, whoever crossed Natasha and Clint were definitely dead and the only survivors out there were the ones that Grant shot. Natasha looked through them, pursing her lips in thought as she skimmed through the reading. If she wasn't so injured, she'd go in there and get the answers they needed from them.
"I don't understand what an image of a fountain has to do with the regressed age of those young warriors," Thor says and Bruce scrunched his nose in thought.
"The fountain of youth?" He says hesitantly, the genius glancing around at the group. The only bit of encouragement he got was this bright spark behind Tony's dark brown eyes, obviously the wheels were turning.
"You're on to something Banner," Tony says, the puzzle pieces were becoming more distinct.
"But isn't that an old myth?" Steve asked, "A mystical fountain that can return youth? It's a bit farfetched."
"So was Thor though," Tony pointed out, "But, I was thinking more along the lines of a serum or method of de-aging yourself. Not necessarily the fountain..."
"But based off of it," Bruce finished, his eyes scanning over the notes that they had.
"Well now that we know who, sort of, we can try to figure out exactly what they're motive is. Alone this research is mild and pretty harmless, there must be some use to it other than turning old people into spring chickens," Tony says.
Clint nodded, though his face was closed off when he asked the question on everyone's mind, "How'd they even find the kids anyways?"
Hill's face hardened, "We have a mole, we're looking into it."
Everyone grimly nodded, Coulson shifting through the file silently, "And we're sure that they aren't going to find us here? They found the kids before."
"As far as they know you've been moved to a safe house, we built a fake cover for you. According to SHIELD you aren't here."
Everyone seemed satisfied with that answer, Clint and Natasha closing the files in unison. Neither assassin felt there needed to be anything else said, looking around the table at everyone. When no one spoke up, Clint stood.
"Well, if that's it, then excuse me as I bring Natasha back to bed before the rug rats wake up," Natasha gave a heavy sigh, rolling her eyes as she lifted her arms up. Clint bent down, scooping her into his arms while her arms draped loosely around his neck. She laid her head gently against his chest, listening for his heart beat and masking the pleasure and enjoyment she secretly got from being carried.
Coulson nodded, glancing at the clock, "And I better get the Advil ready, as well as lunch.." He muttered.
I'm so sorry this took forever. I had started the chapter, had to stop and between then and now got chapter writers block. I'm sorry I feel bad. I'm terribly sorry also if this is a short chapter, I really am sorry. Schools got me occupied and May will be super busy with AP Tests and SBACK testing and god knows what else.
Please Review, I'm sorry, and I swear, with each new episode of this show I'm filled with so many indescribable emotions! Ugh... That moment with Agent 33 using Skye's face and Ward... It felt really 50 Shades of Grey-ish to me. But I've also never read that book. But jeez was that crazy, the only good thing is that Ward is "over Skye" though I sort of secretly think he still cares about her slightly on the grounds that she was his rookie. That fact can never change.
