Dorothy awoke the next morning to find herself completely energized and refreshed. She looked over to where Alex was normally sitting and found a small card waiting for her instead. She smiled and picked it up and read it aloud to herself.
"Dorothy, gone to stay with dad for the night, see you in the morning, love Alex." Dorothy read smiling.
"You know, he did check in on you from time to time." Came the voice of the Nome King.
Dorothy immediately jumped and turned around to find the Nome king sitting at table with Father Time enjoying a cup of tea.
"Your majesty, father time, what are you two doing here?" Dorothy asked curtseying.
"Well, Locasta contacted me when Mrs. Teak and Annabella were captured." Roquat said.
"And I just wanted to have a nice cup of tea, sit and join us." Father time said as a seat appeared in front of the table.
Dorothy nodded and walked over to the table. She sat down and nodded at both of them.
"Alex said I would only be asleep for a few hours, what happened?" Dorothy said as Roquat poured her a cup of tea.
"Glinda's army aren't the only ones who know the affect using calming tonic and a dreamless sleep spell." Roquat replied.
Dorothy sighed and nodded. She took a sip of tea. She then looked back at the bed and realized the scepter and the slippers were missing. She turned to the Nome King and opened her mouth to say something just as Alex ran back in carrying them in his hands. He immediately saw father time and dropped everything.
"Oh father time, what are you doing here?" Alex asked curiously.
"Enjoying a cup of tea, care to join us?" Father time replied.
Alex nodded and picked up the scepter before walking over and kissing Dorothy and the cheek.
"Sleep well?" Alex asked curiously.
"Surprisingly yes, and I have Roquat to thank for that." Dorothy said.
"Thanks Roquat, I can't thank you enough." Alex said.
"No trouble at all." The Nome king replied.
Alex smiled and sat down and poured himself some tea. He then turned to father time.
"The jester grows more powerful by the day, any suggestions?" Alex asked curiously
"You know I can't help." Father time replied.
"Credit for trying though." Roquat replied.
"Alex, how's your dad doing?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"He's fine, he's kinda mad with me for some strange reason, so I won't bother him much today if I can avoid it." Alex said
Dorothy nodded and finished her tea. She then excused herself and walked over to the closet. As she walked in she found her dress and her hair ribbons hanging and ready for her. She immediately changed out of her nightgown and emerged from the closet moments later tying her hair up in pigtails. She walked back over to the table and sat down again this time pulling out her reading glasses and putting them on. The clock then struck seven. Father time got up and cleared his throat.
"Well, it was a pleasure conversing with you all, I know there are more questions that you two have but I am afraid I have been away from my domain too long already." He said.
Before any of them could say a thing they were immediately left as just a group of three. Even the table had disappeared leaving just the chairs which had been pulled from their places in the room.
"I really don't like it when he does that, he really seems to pop out of existence." Alex said.
"Yes, he does that." Roquat replied.
"I assume you'll have to be leaving soon?" Dorothy asked.
"Indeed, I must return to my domain, the protections I put over it will only last five more minutes, after that I must return to my underground kingdom, so tell Locasta and Ellie I am sorry for their loss and I shall return with my army when the jester invades." The Roquat replied.
Dorothy and Alex both nodded and the Nome King disappeared with a swirl of his royal cloak. Dorothy smiled and walked over to her bed. She smiled and held out her hand for the scepter. It flew directly to her hand as it always did. Elena then ran into the room carrying a thermometer. She immediately without saying anything took Dorothy's jaw, pulled it open, and placed the thermometer in her mouth.
"Elena this could have waited till at least breakfast." Alex said.
"Yes, it could have, but I like to think this is best done early." Elena said
Neither of them seemed willing to create an argument out of this. The both decided to wait a few minutes and let Elena do her job. After about five minutes Elena pulled the thermometer from Dorothy's mouth and held it up.
"Well, 101.6 almost an entire degree from yesterday." Elena said shaking the thermometer a few times.
"That's good, but I'm guessing she still isn't allowed to leave the room?" Alex asked.
"No, not until her fever breaks." Elena said before walking out.
Dorothy and Alex watched as Elena left and auntie Em walked in. she was happy to see her niece up and about.
"So, what's the damage?" Em asked curiously.
"The fever still hasn't broken yet." Dorothy said.
'It should break by tonight hopefully." Em said.
Dorothy smiled and nodded she then lay back on her bed and sighed/
"I hope the fever breaks soon, I don't like being cooped up here." Dorothy replied.
"But I'm still here with you." Alex said.
"Yes, and that's one of the few things that makes this confinement bearable." Dorothy replied turning to him before coughing a few times.
"Dorothy, don't worry once the fever breaks you're free to leave the room." Em said.
Dorothy turned to her aunt and nodded. Her aunt smiled and nodded back before turning and walking out of the room. Alex then walked over the bed and sat down next to Dorothy.
"Don't worry Dorothy, you'll be well enough to leave again soon." Alex aid.
"Thanks." Dorothy said smiling at him.
Alex chucked and smiled back before kissing her on the cheek making her blush.
Well, no one was captured in this chapter. But who do you think will be next? Also a reviewer a.c. brought up a rather good point. I never gave a description of Alex. I never realized I forgot to do that. I'll add a description of him in the next chapter. Anyways, who will be captured next? You'll find out in the next chapter.
