When Dorothy did finally manage to nod off she found herself being shaken awake by Alex.
"Dorothy, wake up!" Alex said worriedly
"Wha? What's going on?" Dorothy asked sitting up and looking at him.
"The girls, Ellie, her friends, all captured, the protection over the city is broken, the jester can freely invade and we have…" Alex started rambling as Dorothy placed a hand over his mouth.
"Alex, please be quite." Dorothy said.
"Dorothy, get changed, we have to get you out of the city." Mr. Foreman said walking into the room.
"What!? No, I can't leave, what about my family, the others?" Dorothy asked bolting up and removing her hand from Alex's mouth.
"Dorothy, Locasta has told me that if he takes you and kills you the triplets will lose their protection, Locasta can protect everyone else my dear but she cannot protect you and he apologizes for it." Mr. Foreman said.
"Dorothy, I also found Ellie's sword, Locasta said Ellie told her that if she were captured that the ownership is to be passed onto you." Alex said picking it up and handing it to her.
Dorothy was speechless at this point, she didn't want to abandon the people she cared about. Not her cousins, not her aunt and uncle, not her remaining comrades. She opened her mouth to reply but found Alex putting his hand over her mouth.
"Locasta has put a spell on me to make me untraceable by any means outside of actually going to search for me physically." Alex said helping Dorothy out of bed and leading her to the closet.
Dorothy didn't argue. She just walked into the closet and quickly changed. As she exited the closet Alex handed her the slippers and the scepter.
"We've sent Donna and Kelly home for their 'safety' my father, jenny and Jessica are coming with us." Alex said looking outside worriedly.
Dorothy nodded and looked outside. The sky was now completely dark. She sighed and slid the slippers on.
"You should call for Toto and pockets Dorothy my dear." Mr. Foreman said.
"Toto! Pockets!" Dorothy called loudly
Toto barked and he and pockets ran into the room. They both ran up to Dorothy. She smiled and picked pockets and allowed her to crawl into her pocket.
"Don't worry, Momma and my siblings will be alright, but they wanted me to come." Pockets said.
Dorothy smiled and ran back into her closet, she grabbed her satchel and a picnic basket that she knew wasn't there before. As she exited the closet she found Locasta drawing her mark on Alex's hand.
"I'm not sure how potent that spell is, I've never performed it before but I couldn't find you in my crystal ball so I assume it works." Locasta said.
"Roquat will arrive with his army once the jester invades right?" Alex asked curiously.
"Nomes are indestructible unless you give them eggs, which are poison to them." Locasta said before turning to Dorothy.
"Locasta, take care of Emma." Dorothy said.
"Didn't Alex tell you? Even though your aunt, uncle and cousins can't leave the confines of the city, Emma can, she's coming with you I believe that as a Yookoohoo she can be useful to you guys, now that's she's learned about her powers." Locasta said
Dorothy smiled and hugged Locasta.
"Can I say bye to my family first, since this could, could be the last time I see them." Dorothy said realizing what this all meant.
"Dorothy, don't say that." Came the voice of the china princess.
Dorothy frowned and walked over to the china princess. She then hugged her tightly.
"Please, don't let the jester break you guys." Dorothy whispered.
"Dorothy, don't worry about us, we'll be fine, if the jester takes us prisoner, so be it, and in the end you're safe." The princess said.
Dorothy smiled and walked out of the room. She walked to the chambers where she found her aunt and uncle watching her cousins in a large crib. Dorothy ran over to her aunt and uncle and embraced them tightly.
"Dorothy, you guys should have left already." Em said.
"I wanted to say goodbye." Dorothy said.
"Dorothy be brave, be careful and don't surrender." Em said
"You three need to be brave." Dorothy said looking at her cousins.
"Dorothy, it's time to go, we can't dally." Came the voice of jenny.
Dorothy turned and found Jenny, and Emma waiting for her. Dorothy nodded and walked over to them.
"Give my regards to the others." Dorothy said
"Dorothy, be brave and strong and remember, you are not alone." Em said.
Dorothy sighed and as she walked out of the chambers. As she walked towards the exit to the city she took pockets out of her pocket and set her down with Toto. She then strapped Ellie's sword around her waist and sighed. As the group exited the city they found that the outside was rather dark. Mr. Foreman was now carrying a large backpack like the one Ellie carried when they first met. As they walked towards the docks Dorothy took one last look at the city and sighed.
"Well, this is it then?" Dorothy asked
"Yes, once we leave the only time were coming back is when it's time to fight the jester." Alex said as they walked over to Tugg.
"Mr. Teak, you know you still have the chance to back out and not come with us." Jenny said.
"No, no, I'll be safer in your guy's company." Mr. Teak replied.
"No you won't Mr. Teak, remember it's me the jester is after, he'll do whatever it takes to get me, including hurting you guys, if you stay here the worst he'll do is turn you into a puppet or a statue." Dorothy said.
Mr. Teak stood there for a moment and sighed.
"Go, just go, Alex, be strong, and keep her safe." Mr. Teak said as he ran back into the city.
"You know, I think that's the nicest thing he's ever said to me." Alex said as them climbed onto Tugg's deck.
"Where to?" Tugg asked curiously.
"Far away from the city." Jessica replied.
"And fast Tugg, as fast as you can go." Dorothy said picking up Toto and pockets.
"Well then, hold on tightly." Tugg said as they started off.
Immediately they started going quickly against the current, soon they would be far away from the city. But the city would be at the mercy of the jester.
Well, the group has left the emerald city. Not just for Dorothy's safety but so her cousins can keep their protection. And next chapter The jester finally invades.
