Dru had one of her visions and drags Spike back to Sunnydale. When Spike gets into town he's horrified to see Buffy like that. He might hate her, but he knows he has to help her Starts s3e17 then goes wildly off cannon

After the trauma of clawing her way out of her own grave Buffy can't sleep without being haunted by the nightmares of it. And there's only one person she wants to turn to for comfort.
