POV:
Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail
"Lucy, what are we going to do tomorrow?" Wendy asks from across the kitchen table while chewing happily into her slice of pepperoni pizza.
"Yeah," Chelia chimes jumping up and down in her seat excitedly, "Where are you going to take us?"
I look at both girls wearily since both are apparently sleeping over tonight and tomorrow I have to take care of them again until both their parents pick them up at around eight in the afternoon. Looking at them now I know for a fact that I probably won't get much sleep tonight.
Closing my eyes, thinking, I lean my head onto my palm as my elbow rests on the table as I wrack my brain for something to do tomorrow but nothing really comes in mind, "Well, seeming as I've only been living here for almost two months and have barely left the house to go anywhere, I don't know where to take you," I then open my eyes at both girls, "Besides, there's also the fact that I don't have a car or money to buy you anything," We then eat in silence and I feel bad for not being able to take them out tomorrow until an idea pops into my head, "I know what we can do tomorrow," I say causing both girls to look up at me expectantly, "Why don't we go swimming at the lake tomorrow? I hear the weather will be perfect tomorrow,"
Both girls cheer already chattering excitedly with each other and saying how lucky they were since they coincidentally brought their swim suits with them. They continue to talk excitedly about our trip tomorrow even after we finish eating taking their conversation toward the living room. I pick up the dishes and place them in the sink before starting up the water in order to wash them. As I wash the dishes listening intently to the girls chatter on in the next room I hear a noise above my head.
Turning down the water I look up only to see the roof and the overhead light gently flickers that it's almost unnoticeable. I turn to turn the water back on when I then hear a thump on the second floor and my heart stops for a split second, mainly because no one other than Wendy, Chelia, and I are at home alone. Also, Natsu said he wouldn't stop by until tomorrow.
After the ringing within my ears stops I look up to find Juvia walking away from the crumpled body toward us, her fixed expression not allowing a single emotion to leak through. She walks toward where Gray is standing a few feet away as the others walk towards her seeking to give and receive comfort.
No one moves or says anything, each processing in their own way what just happened, but no one cries. Crying is just not allowed, no matter who it is or how it is done. It's just one of the perks of having this cruel job. You can feel, but you just can't show it no matter how much you want to thrash and scream out.
The sound of a ringing phone pierces the empty silence making everyone jump and turn toward the source. Juvia fishes through the inside of her coat and pulls out a small silver phone that is ringing insistently. She checks the caller ID before clicking a button and putting the phone up to her ear giving a curt, "Hello," leaving us all staring at her in wonder as to what are orders are next. The seconds seem to drag on like minutes as we wait in a tense silence watching the blue haired woman's shoulders tense up as if she were hit right in between her shoulder blades, "WHAT?!" she shrieks into the phone, "But that's impossible. I thought that you decided she wasn't a threat?" she asks, her voice rising an octave as she tries to control herself. Feeling my heart race at the sight of Juvia losing composure, I instinctively look over towards the spot where Mirajane's body should be, but there's nothing there other than a red stain on the ground, "I-I understand," Juvia's voice then reaches me sounding far more calm than before and I whirl around to find her staring at me with a painful look in her eyes, "Natsu.." but I don't give her time to finish as I turn and run towards where my heart is leading me to.
"I'm going upstairs to get a movie," I say as I pass by the girls toward the stairs.
"Ooh, can we come with?" Chelia asks quickly moving toward my side and taking my hand in hers, "I want to see if you have any good movies," she simply says with a broad smile and I nod looking over at Wendy.
"Are you coming too, or are you going to stay down here for a bit?" I ask and she quickly moves to my side taking my free hand. The three of us walk up the stairs awkwardly holding each other's hands and it isn't until I feel Chelia's hand shaking that I register that both girls seem a bit quiet. As we climb up the stairs I notice how their eyes search up at the landing wearily almost like they are waiting for something to pop out and attack them. This must mean that they also heard the noises from earlier and even though it might be dangerous to go and follow strange noises coming from upstairs, I'm kind of glad that they volunteered to come with me.
This is such a stupid idea, I tell myself as we get closer to the landing, haven't you learned anything from scary movies that you shouldn't go toward the strange noise if not away from it?
I mentally slap myself at how stupid this idea is and am ready to turn and hightail it out of the house through the front door, but both girls seem to be leading me up the stairs against my will. I try holding back, but they continue to lead me upwards until we are directly on the landing and the hallway showing all the rooms on the second floor is in view. Once we're on the second floor, Wendy and Chelia release my hands seeming to be a bit weary on whether to move forward or run away like I want to.
We reach my room and other than the sound of the A/C silently humming above us there is no other sound that suggests that there's someone else in the house with us. I open the door to my room and walk in while flicking on the lights to see that it is empty. I sigh in relief feeling the ferret in my chest race uncontrollably.
I turn back to the girls to call them in when I hear Wendy yelp and then something heavy hits the ground. Almost immediately the warning bells blare within my head as I turn in time to find Chelia closing the door to my room and what sounds like a lock clicks. I race to the door and pound my fists against the hard wood feeling desperation slowly start choking me, "CHELIA," I scream continuing to pound my fists against the door, "CHELIA, OPEN THE DOOR THIS INSTANT!" I rap harder on the door before then throwing my weight into the door feeling my already hurt shoulder scream in pain, "CHELIA!"
"I'm sorry Lucy," her voice sounds soft and muffled as I stop noticing that tears are streaming down my cheeks, "But they did warn you, didn't they?" I freeze feeling all the blood leave my face as a single rule runs through my head like a sick chant, don't get caught, don't get caught, don't get caught, it jumps around in my skull painfully, "You should have listened and stayed away,"
"What areā¦"
"You know what I'm talking about Lucy; you know very well what I'm talking about,"
Before I can start screaming and pounding on the door again I feel a cool breeze hit me from behind and the sound of a squeaking hinge from behind has me turning to stare into a single dark black eye with a glowing violet iris that gazes down at me ominously. It is at that very moment that I understand that I can probably die in the hands of this terrifying stranger.
So I wanted to update these chapters yesterday to celebrate an accomplishment my High School band made but I was asleep most of the day. We beat our long time rivals at a competition on Saturday earning first place in our division and second place over all the bands that competed. It's something that's never really been done in my school for like years so I'm just bouncing with happiness.
Anywho, I hope you all enjoyed these past two chapters as much as I enjoyed writing them.
