To prove that I'm still going on with this story and not dead!

Artemis sighed as she emerged from the subway tunnel and into the busy streets of Gotham. The sun was darkened by pollution even though it was 1:15. She scanned the buildings until she spotted the tier of the public libraries steeple and headed over. She was supposed to be meeting her tutor at one thirty and didn't want to be late.

She adjusted her black back pack after someone bumped into her. I don't want to do this. She paused outside a shop window, getting a good look at her reflection. She wore her typical white shirt, brown vest, jeans, and boots. Her think blonde hair pulled into a tight ponytail, nothing special.

I could just play hooky…she entertained the thought for a moment, imagining herself skipping tutoring and going into Gotham's slums to kick butt, there was plenty of that to do in this city.

Oh get a grip on yourself. Artemis scowled and continued trudging her way to the library. You got lucky enough to get a scholarship to one of the best high school in the country, a full ride! You're going to do whatever it takes to keep it. Besides, it would kill Mom if you lost it.

Paula Crock always asked Artemis how her school was going and if she was making friends. Artemis never had the heart to tell her that her grades dropped whenever she went on missions and had to stay up the next night doing homework and trying to study, only to be too tired to pay much attention in class during school. She also lied about making friends.

Gotham Academy was a place for the super wealthy and super smart, while Artemis obviously wasn't wealthy she wasn't the smartest there is either. She wasn't dumb, she could earn B's and even A's if she really tried, but Gotham Academy expected the best and by best they meant above average so the homework and projects went double for them, something Artemis was not used to.

At Gotham Academy the kids there were usually born into rich families or adopted into them, so they had every opportunity in the world to get the best education possible and grew up in big houses with fenced in neighborhoods.

When she was with her father school wasn't his major concern and often her and her sister were pulled out for his training and when they got back they were too far behind to catch up, besides her dad constantly moved so she wasn't in the same school for more than a semester until her mom came back.

Not that Artemis was trying to hate on rich families, Queen was rich but risked his life every day as Green Arrow and she heard rumors that even though Bruce Wayne was a playboy he secretly had a heart of gold, at least his ward, Richard, was nice.

Artemis didn't fit in with the other sophomores, especially the girls. They were nice but most of them were still high school girls, catty and shallow so Artemis hung out mostly with the guys and a quiet girl she met in her English class named Willow.

Artemis stopped her musing as she walked up the stone steps to the Gotham Public Library and braced herself before going through the large wooden doors

Wooden shelves stacked with books were lined in a maze pattern all throughout the place, desks scattered around it. In the middle of the building was the checkout and up the stairs had been reconstructed to fit one half of the spacious area with computers and the other half with more round wooden tables and chairs.

Okay, from the email he said he would be by the science section and the third desk down. Artemis reminded herself and began walking through the shelves.

Signs hanging from the ceiling indicated what section was for which subject so it took her no time at all to find the science one.

As Artemis passed by one of the aisles a somewhat deep friendly voice called out her name. "Hey, Artemis?"

She turned and saw Jordan Merold standing not too far behind her. He smiled and crossed the distance between them, holding out his hand.

"Jordan Merold." He introduced himself.

Feeling a wave of social awkwardness taking a hold if her, Artemis gripped his hand replied. "A-Artemis Crock…which you, obviously knew my name."

He let out an amused laughter. "Haha, yeah well. You have a strong grip Artemis Crock."

She realized just how tightly she was holding his hand and immediately let go. "Oh, sorry-"

"It's fine," He brushed it off. "I set up a place by the window for us to study if that's okay with you."

"Yeah, sure," She nervously adjusted her strap. "Lead the way."

He turned and let her to the edge of the library where a small book-shelf enclosed cove was, a large window spanning the length from one shelf to the other and a table tucked in the middle.

"Nice." Artemis commented, setting her bag next to his as they each took a seat.

"Now, where should we start?" He asked sliding over a large stack of books that covered a variety of topics closer to him.

"Um…" Artemis pulled her American History book from her bag. "How about history? I never can seem to remember the dates."

"History it is." He said smiling at her while setting her book in the middle and opening it. Artemis felt comfortable enough to send an awkward smile back.

So, Artemis' first session with her tutor, what do you think? This is a bonus chapter I wrote in response to getting over 50 followers and an apology for not posting a Christmas/New Year's chapter. If you guys like it I'll continue their mini-series, if not we'll let it die here. Also I have a Tumblr under the same username if you care to follow me there. One last thing, what do you think of Frozen?
