That day went by rather quickly for most of them. For Dorothy however it went by at a snails pace after her nap. She had spent most of the day following Alex around. Eventually they ended up upstairs with scarecrow and Aislynn. Alex was now helping scarecrow organize the bed rooms while Aislynn was holding Dorothy in her arms.
"So, how does it feel? You know, being a cat again?" Aislynn asked curiously.
"It's alright, I guess, but I'd rather be stuck in a wheelchair." Dorothy replied.
"Dorothy don't say that." Alex said.
"Dorothy, you'd be limited to just downstairs if you were confined to a wheelchair again." Scarecrow said.
"Thanks for reminding me." Dorothy said sighing and wriggling out of aislynn's grasp.
Dorothy let out a meow before stretching out and walking over to Alex and Scarecrow.
"You know the rain has finally stopped." Dorothy said looking outside.
"Really?" Alex asked looking outside.
Indeed the rain had stopped. Alex could see the sky and surprisingly there was a rainbow outside.
"A rainbow, how pretty." Aislynn said walking over to the window
"I wonder if the jester knows what happened by now?" Alex asked curiously.
"I'm sure he does, the rain is meant to continue as long as you are a threat to him, and in your current state, and well you get the picture." Scarecrow said
Meanwhile at the city
"Oh, this is rich, for running away they changed her into a kitten, I love it." The jester said as he watched the scene in his crystal ball
The jester smiled wickedly as an idea came to his head. A nearly foolproof plan and it would succeed if he played his cards right. It was time for him to make an unscheduled attack on munchkin land. First he needed a spell to breakthrough Glinda's defenses however. He laughed wickedly and immediately ran off to rally up his troops.
Meanwhile back at the munchkin city
Ellie, Glinda, and Locasta had spent most of the day as soon as the sun came out, outside setting up more barriers around the entire munchkin city. They didn't want any possibility of the jester showing up. As the sun began setting they were joined by Alex, Aislynn, Mr. Foreman, Dorothy, and scarecrow.
"It's getting late." Alex said
"We know." Ellie said looking at the sunset
"It's beautiful out isn't it?" Dorothy asked as she walked over to the three sorceresses.
"Yes it is." Glinda replied kneeling down and scratching Dorothy behind the ears."
"I always say that there's almost nothing more beautiful than a sunrise or sunset on a clear day." Mr. Foreman said.
"I agree." Aislynn said taking scarecrow's hand in her own.
"Scarecrow, Ace, why don't you two go back inside, we'll be only a few minutes." Glinda said turning to them.
"Yes mam." Aislynn and scarecrow said in unison as they walked back to the mansion.
The group of them shared a chuckled before Dorothy found herself being picked up by Alex. She purred and nuzzled up against him.
"Awe, that's so cute." Ellie said.
Mr. Foreman, Glinda, Locasta and Ellie all shared a chuckle at this as Alex set Dorothy down again and they walked over to an old bench. As Alex sat down Dorothy jumped up onto his lap.
"Ellie, your sister, Locasta and I shall be heading inside why you don't stay with Dorothy and Alex for a while." Mr. Foreman said
"Sure Jon, oh, Ace, where's scarecrow?" Ellie asked as Aislynn came out followed by Toto and the cats.
"He's Helping Mr. And Mrs. Gale." Aislynn said turning her head to look at the mansion.
"Oh, right, come on ace." Ellie said walking over to the bench.
"Dorothy?" Eve asked jumping up onto the bench.
"Yes eve?" Dorothy replied.
"Isn't it a beautiful evening?" She asked curiously.
"Yes, yes it is eve, very beautiful, Toto, Pockets, Alexa, patch, oddball have you all eaten for the evening?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"Yes Dorothy." they all said in unison.
"That reminds me, Dorothy, aren't you at all hungry?" Alex asked curiously.
"Actually, no, surprisingly not, are you?" Dorothy asked finally realizing that she hadn't been hungry all day.
"No, actually and I've found that surprising now that I think about it." Alex said.
"Dorothy?" Toto asked curiously.
"Yes Toto?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"Are you going to eat at all today?" Toto asked as his expression went from curious to worry.
"Possibly Toto, I'm not feeling hungry at the moment." Dorothy replied.
"Dorothy, you should at least eat something." Aislynn said pulling out a can of sardines.
Immediately Dorothy's stomach began growling. As did Alex's stomach. Aislynn and Ellie chuckled as Aislynn cracked open the can of sardines and set it on Alex's lap next to Dorothy. Dorothy immediately began wolfing down the can of sardines making Alex let out a light chuckle.
"Have either of you actually thought about eating all day?" Ellie asked trying to suppress a giggle.
"No, Ellie, and now that I'm thinking about it, I'm hungry." Alex said.
"I know that there are several fruit trees around here." Dorothy said licking the can clean.
"Wow, you eat fast." Alex said looking rather surprised.
"Small can, small fish, you're surprised?" Dorothy asked.
"Never mind, anyways, what fruits do they have around here?" Alex asked curiously.
"Apples, peaches, et cetera." Dorothy said.
"I'll go get some, I know I saw an apple tree while putting up some of the protections." Ellie said running off.
"I should go help her." Aislynn said running after Ellie.
Ellie and Aislynn returned several minutes later with an armful of apples. Aislynn smiled and set hers down next to Alex before leading Toto and the cats back inside. Alex smiled and picked one up. He polished it on his shirt and took a bite from it.
"I wish I could eat fruit." Dorothy said jumping off of Alex's lap.
"Where are you going?" Alex asked curiously.
Dorothy turned to Alex and sat down. She then raised her hind paw and scratched behind her ear.
"Alex, I think I'm going to go inside and curl up by the fireplace, care to join me?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"I'd be happy to." Alex said getting up and following Dorothy inside.
Ellie and Aislynn shared a glance and shrugged before Aislynn scooped Eve up into her arms and started after Alex. Ellie sighed and led the rest of the cats and Toto inside. Each of them unaware of the jester's upcoming invasion.
Well how's that a way to end a chapter? Well the first part of my exams are done, the math part of the exam comes in a week or so. Anyways, what do you think the jester's going to do during his invasion? Here's a hint, take your guess, and odds are it's the complete opposite.
