Early that next morning before sunrise Alex found himself suddenly found himself being jolted awake by Dorothy jumping on his lap. He had fallen asleep in a rocking chair in front of the fireplace. He smiled and scratched Dorothy behind the ears. Dorothy purred and turned her head to look at him
"I'm sorry, did I wake you?" Dorothy whispered.
"Yea, but it doesn't matter, what were you doing?" Alex asked curiously.
"Getting some exercise, stretching, et cetera." Dorothy whispered.
"Ah, well, want to go watch the sunrise?" Alex asked curiously.
Dorothy let out a sigh and looked at a clock, the sun would start rising soon.
"Sure." Dorothy said nodding
Alex smiled and picked Dorothy up in his arms. As they left the house quietly they were surprised to find Ellie already sitting out on the porch, wand in hand ready to attack.
"Ellie?" Alex asked curiously.
My sister, Locasta and I have been rotating all night, keeping guard, just in case you were curious." Ellie replied.
"Okay then that saves me having to ask that." Alex said.
"You two came out to watch the sun rise right?" Ellie asked curiously.
"Yea." Dorothy and Alex replied
"I was hoping someone would come out here to watch it, let's go over to the bench." Ellie replied.
Alex smiled as he, Dorothy, and Ellie walked over to the bench and sat down. There were still apples on the bench from the day before. Alex picked up an apple and polished it on his shirt before taking a bite.
"Ellie, can you hug Alex for me?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"Why?" both Alex and Ellie asked curiously.
"Because I can't do it." Dorothy replied.
"Can I hit him afterwards?" Ellie asked curiously
"No." Dorothy and Alex replied in unison.
"Sorry, no." Ellie said.
"Can't you two ever get along?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"I only tolerate him for your sake Dorothy." Ellie replied.
Dorothy scoffed and curled up on Alex lap. Ellie smiled and conjured up a small piece of string which she began teasing Dorothy with. Dorothy swiped at it a few times before letting out a slight growl and looking slightly annoyed.
"Ellie, cut it out." Dorothy
"Hey Alex you want a turn?" Ellie asked.
"I'm sorry, but I like my face the way it is." Alex said
"With one black eye." Dorothy said laughing and biting the piece of string, pulling it from Ellie's hand.
"Yes, with one black eye." Alex said.
"Oh, look at the sunrise." Ellie said.
Dorothy and Alex turned to see a beautiful golden sunrise. Alex and Ellie both smiled while Dorothy purred in content. Dorothy loved watching the sunrise as much as the next person however she had a strange sinking feeling.
"Dorothy, what's the matter?" Alex asked looking down at her.
"Does strange, sinking feeling, answer the question?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"It answers it well enough if that answers your question." Alex said as the entire city became enveloped in the sunlight.
Dorothy sighed and nuzzled against Alex as they watched the sunrise. Soon after Glinda came out of the house and immediately there was a loud bang. The entire munchkin city shook as the barriers and spells Glinda, Ellie and Locasta had put up were shattered. Immediately flying monkeys began swooping down on the city Ellie and Glinda immediately whipped out their wands and began throwing spells at them.
"Alex, take Dorothy and run." Ellie said.
Alex nodded and scooped Dorothy into his arms and ran.
"Go, spread your destruction!" came the booming voice of the jester.
"Alex, put me down, you'll be able to run faster if you don't have to worry about dropping me." Dorothy said as a giant rock was dropped next to them
"Dorothy, I'm sorry but I'm supposed to keep you safe." Alex said running into the mansion as Glinda shot another spell at them.
"Finley, Locasta, Terrance, get out here, we need help!" Glinda called as they passed her
As Alex and Dorothy got inside Alex ran upstairs with Dorothy still in his arms not saying a word to anyone. When they got to the top of the steps Alex was shock to see flying monkeys tearing through the halls. Immediately there was a loud screeching noise and they charged at Alex. At this point there was only one thing Dorothy could think of doing. She bit Alex's hand causing him to drop her.
"Alex, run, it's me they're after!" she shouted.
However the monkeys flew right over her and charged Alex head on sending him tumbling down the stairs. Dorothy grew worried and was about to go and see if he was alright when she heard Aislynn scream. She immediately ran into her room to find one of the monkeys trying tear scarecrow apart while another had her pinned in a corner. Dorothy hissed causing both monkeys to turn towards her. She immediately looked at them slyly and ran. As she ran however she heard Glinda screaming. Dorothy knew Glinda had either been picked up by one of the monkeys or was hit by a spell but she could check which.
"Find her, I know she's there, find her and bring her to me!" came the voice of the jester.
Dorothy immediately took off and ran down stairs, she saw Mr. Foreman with Alex in his arms. Cassandra was holding up a barrier in the living room.
"Dorothy, run, get away from munchkin land if you can, don't let him get you." Jon said.
"Jon, I…" Dorothy said as a ball of yarn rolled by her.
Dorothy immediately began to chase after it and noticed several monkeys charging her. She immediately turned and ran out of the mansion. Ellie and Locasta were fending the monkeys that were swarming them. Dorothy sighed and ran. However something caught as she ran by it. Her old farmhouse, she quickly jumped up onto the ledge of one of the broken windows and jumped into the house. The place had been preserved incredibly well since her first visit to Oz. it seemed to be set up as some sort of monument to her as several paintings of her now decorated it. She was snapped out of thought however as several flying monkeys flew passed the house giving it no regard.
"Dorothy, come out come out where ever you are." Came the voice of the jester in a sing song tone.
"Why should I!?" Dorothy shouted into the heavens
She received no response. She sighed and walked over to an armchair. She was about to jump onto it when a small glint of light shining off one of the frames in the room caught her attention. As the destruction and fighting continued on Dorothy found herself jumping onto the glares of light on floor.
"You know, this is kinda fun." Dorothy said to herself.
"Oh, really? Maybe you should become a cat more often." Came a voice that made Dorothy's blood run cold.
Dorothy immediately turned to find a sack being thrown over her. The next thing she knew she felt the bag lurch. With her in it.
Oh dear, what have you gotten yourself into now Dorothy? Reviewers take a good guess as to what's to come. What will become of Dorothy? And what will happen to the others?
