As Glinda and Ellie found themselves back in the mayor's mansion they were met with a gasp of shock from everyone. Ellie looked as if she could start crying at any moment.
"She didn't!?" Aislynn asked with a hint of fear.
Glinda said not a word, she simply sighed as she found her wand appear next to her. Ellie's appeared and rolled off under the armchair in the room.
"W-where's Alex?" Ellie choked out.
"Right here, Ellie, no, she didn't!?" Alex said.
Ellie said nothing, she began crying as Aislynn helped her up. Alex stood there speechless, why would Dorothy give herself up? Everyone's shock however was broken by a loud crack of thunder.
"citizens of Oz, may I have your attention please!" came the voice of the jester.
Alex immediately took his sword in hand and ran out of the house quickly. Immediately he was met with the sight of Dorothy standing a few feet in front of the jester. Everyone in the mansion came out and gasped. Em and henry ran out of the house with their children in their arms but they didn't dare get any closer to Dorothy than Alex was. Immediately a mist surrounded the city and the image of other ozians appeared in it all surprised at what they were seeing.
"Now, everyone will get to see what happens to those who defy me, Dorothy, say goodbye to your friends and family." The jester said.
No sooner had the jester finished his sentence did Dorothy run over to the group. She approached her aunt and uncle who were holding their children close to them.
"Dorothy?" the triplets asked in unison.
"You three, be good, listen to your mom and dad, I love you guys, just remember that." Dorothy said with tears in her eyes as she embraced her aunt and uncle.
"Dorothy please don't let him do this." Ellie said wiping some tears from her eyes.
"Ellie, I'm sorry," Dorothy said looking at her.
Dorothy then turned to Alex who was staring at the crowd, none of them brave enough to come near him except for Mr. Foreman. He smiled a fake but warm smile and pushed Alex a little closer to her.
"Alex, I love you." Dorothy whispered
"Dorothy, please." Alex whispered in response
Dorothy closed her eyes as a tear rolled down her cheek. She took his face in her hands and pulled him into a kiss. As she pulled away she found Alex with tears rolling down his face.
"I'm sorry my love." Dorothy said turning to Aislynn.
"Dorothy, please don't." Ellie said.
"Ace, Ellie, Alex, you three are in charge, be brave, for me." Dorothy said before turning back to the jester.
"Now, Dorothy, can any of your friends tell me what this is?" The jester said pulling the scepter from behind his back, now with a green orb on it.
"It's the scepter, just do it?" Dorothy said choking on her tears.
"Well then." The jester said.
"Everyone, I'm sorry." Dorothy said.
The jester had a bittersweet smile on his face. He then raised the scepter and chuckled.
"Where once a living soul did dwell, now is nothing but an empty shell!" the jester shouted as his voice seemed to echo throughout the entire Land of Oz.
As he brought down the scepter the spell flew out of the orb and Dorothy was enveloped in smoke. Alex shouted loudly. Em and henry turned to look away. When the smoke cleared, in front of them stood a trophy cabinet, in it now Dorothy transformed into a puppet. Her now glassy eyes fixed on the group. For a brief second Alex could have sworn he saw her eye brows arch in surprise and the eyes focus on him. Alex tried to run up to the cabinet and it vanished. Alex drew his sword and then realized that the jester had vanished as well. Immediately Alex fell to his knees and began crying. His father ran over and picked his son up from behind. Alex didn't even resist he just turned and embraced his dad.
Meanwhile back at the palace
The jester wasn't feeling as well as he thought he would with having turned Dorothy into a puppet. He could control her with a wave of the scepter. Even the wand could make her limbs move.
"Something is wrong, this doesn't…" the jester said turning to the marionette and pointing the scepter at it
"Feel right." The puppet said in a toneless voice.
"Maybe it's because there was no struggle, no fight, but she will be changed back, either that boy will kill me or the blondie will, anyways, well snap, they know a spell to change her back." the jester said walking out of the room leaving Dorothy's puppet on her lonesome.
"I hope he enjoys himself." Came the voice of Nikko as he came in and began polishing the cabinets.
Dorothy was surprised that she even could react, she felt that her soul was supposed to have left this shell, she couldn't understand why but she still had control. She didn't dare speak or move in fear of causing Nikko to alert the jester. She was glad that she could still understand animals. She wanted to know why she still had her will and control
Well, there's a question that needs answering. Why does Dorothy still have her will and control? How is her puppet not an empty shell? And when will Alex and the others take their vengeance on the jester? Well sweet reviewers, what do you think?
