A/N: Before you read this chapter, here's a reminder; in this story Breaking Dawn Part 2 never happened...Bella had Renesmee and was changed but the fight with the Volturi never happened. This chapter briefly explains what happened when Renesmee was born. Sorry that it strays from Stephanie Myers plot, but it was needed for the story. And also...the whole concept kinda strays from her plot ;) Anyway, enjoy :)

Chapter 15: A Trip to Italy

"I've been thinking," I said as Jasper came into our bedroom carrying Daisy in his arms.

"What about?" He asked.

"The Volturi." I told him.

He frowned, "What about the Volturi?"

"Something's been worrying me since the Denali coven came down last week," I explained, "It reminded me of Sasha...and of her son."

"The infant vampire," Jasper said cautiously, "And?"

"I know Daisy's different, just like Nessie is," I said, "But what if the Volturi don't believe us? What if they come and take her away? What if they-"

I choke and can't finish my sentence as I think about what the Volturi might do if they thought Daisy was an immortal child.

"We're not going to let anything happen to Daisy." Jasper said, looking straight into my eyes, "I'll protect the both of you with my life, you know that."

"I know..." I said, "But what if-"

"It'll be fine, Alice. They didn't kill Renesmee, did they?" He asked.

"No," I agreed, "But that's because they could sense she was half human. They knew she wasn't an immortal child so they left her alone. Daisy's full vampire, why shouldn't they believe her to be an immortal child? I mean, vampire pregnancy isn't heard of. Why would they ever believe us?"

"Can you see if-" Jasper began.

"You know I can't see anything." I interrupted.

"I think we should take Daisy to see the Volturi." Jasper suggested.

"Are you crazy?" I asked, "We need to keep her as far away from them as possible! We need to keep her safe, Jasper!"

"I know, Darlin'. And we will keep her safe." He said, rubbing his hand over his face in thought, "But we can't run from them forever. Sooner or later they'd find out, and then they'd wander why we'd kept her a secret. I think that if we take her to them and explain everything, they would trust us. Aro could read our thoughts and see we were telling the truth. If we go and see them, then we have the upper hand. It's better than waiting for them to come to us."

"That's a huge risk." I argued, "What's to stop them killing her the second we step through the door? How do you know they'll wait long enough to hear us out?"

"It's a huge risk either way." Jasper said, "If we keep her secret and they find out, they'd kill the lot of us without thought."

We kept eye contact for a moment before Daisy's murmuring distracted us. "We should ask Carlisle."

Jasper nodded in agreement and we made our way downstairs to where our family were sat in the living room. Jasper took the TV remote and switched it off, causing a murmur of complaint from both Renesmee and Emmett, who had been watching Tarzan. Carlisle looked up from his book, "Alice, Jasper. Is something wrong?"

"Maybe." I said, explaining the conversation Jasper and I had just had.

After a moment's thought, Carlisle spoke, "I think Jasper is right."

"But-" I started to protest.

"We'd need to figure out a strategy to make sure Daisy is safe during the visit," Carlisle cut me off, "And we would keep her safe, Alice, I promise. Jasper has a valid point; they'd find out eventually, and we have the upper hand if we're the one to visit them before they visit us."

"I don't want to put her in harms way." I argued.

"None of us do." Carlisle reassured me, "She's our family, and I know that every one of us would lay down our lives before seeing her hurt."

There was a murmur of agreement around the room, and I felt somewhat reassured. I was still full of doubt and fear about putting Daisy-May at such risk. Jasper, feeling my emotions, squeezed my hand reassuringly, "We need a plan."

~o.O.o~

I held the breath I didn't need as we walked through the halls towards the room where the Volturi was waiting. We stopped in front of the doors and Jasper squeezed my hand reassuringly.

"Can I help you?" The human at the desk asked.

"We have an appointment." Jasper said without turning around, and he pushed open the door.

Aro looked up instantly and smiled when he saw Jasper and I hand in hand, "It's been so long."

"Aro." Jasper said with a nod of respect that I knew was far from sincere. I didn't trust my voice not to shake, so I remained quiet.

"You were very mysterious in your request to see us." Aro said, "May I enquire as to what you wanted to speak with me about?"

I glance at Jasper. This was supposed to be my part, but I know I won't make it through it. Jasper knows it too, and he takes over. "We came across a vampire with a very special gift that we weren't sure if you were aware of."

"And you wish to inform me of this gift?" Aro asked. Jasper nodded, "Carry on."

"There is a vampire we have met - and she assures us there are more with this gift - who can give vampires the ability to conceive children." Jasper said, "The resulting pregnancy is just like a human pregnancy and when the child is born they are full vampire. They aren't like immortal children. In fact, the control they show is better than most normal vampires."

We'd gone over this carefully scripted explanation hundreds of times, but I still had no idea if it would work.

Aro leaned forward in his seat, "This is certainly new information to us. Who is the vampire who told you about this gift?"

"She is called Dana Korlov." Jasper says. We'd considered keeping Dana's identity secret, but knew that Aro would know her name as soon as he read our thoughts. We'd informed Dana that she might be paid a visit from the Volturi, and she'd just smiled and said they'd have to find her first.

"And you've seen these...vampire children?" Aro asked.

"One." Jasper told him.

"Where?" Aro asked, trying to make the question casual. We could both see his thoughts in his eyes.

"You can't kill her!" I said, speaking for the first time, "We told you; the children aren't like immortal children. They aren't a threat to our kind!"

Aro smiled, "Alice, my dear, how are we to know that they will not become a threat to us?"

"I don't see it happening in the future." I say honestly.

"Then you won't mind if I see your thoughts?" Aro enquired. I begin to panic; if Aro reads my thoughts he'll see Daisy. He'll see the plan. It'll all be over. Jasper sends waves of calm towards me and I pull myself together.

"We haven't told you everything yet." I said, "Allow us to finish and then of course I will show you my thoughts."

Aro's smile turned tight, "Go ahead."

Marcus and Caius haven't spoken the whole time we've been there, but they are listening intently in the background. Aro waits, his face growing impatient as Jasper and I look at each other, building up the confidence to do this. This was the risky part.

"When we met with Dana, she made Alice pregnant." Jasper said. Aro's eyes widen slightly as he looks over me, no doubt trying to sense another vampire inside of me. "That was ten months ago."

His eyes snap to Jasper, "The child has been born?"

The doors behind us opened, and Edward and Bella came through. They were followed by Carlisle and Esme, and in between the two couples was Emmett, holding Daisy in his arms. We'd decided that Emmett should be the one to have Daisy partly because he was the strongest and had the best chance of protecting Daisy if something went wrong, and partly because he was the only one except Jasper and myself who could pick her up without making her scream.

I watched Aro carefully as his eyes ran over Daisy's tiny form. I glanced at Edward, and he nodded at me, letting me know that Aro's thoughts were safe. I stood forward and held out my hand towards Aro, "If you read my thoughts, you will see that I carried her through pregnancy. She is not an immortal child. In the month that she's been alive she's fed on nothing but animal blood and hasn't shown any lack of control."

Aro didn't touch my hand, but stood up, "If you do not mind, I'd like to read the child's thoughts."

He took a step towards her, and the family closed in around Emmett. We didn't want him anywhere near Daisy until we fully trusted he wouldn't harm her.

I look at Edward and he nods once more. Aro isn't thinking about harming her. I went to Emmett and took Daisy from his arms, before walking back towards Aro. Jasper and Emmett stood close to my side, ready to act if Aro steps out of line. Edward stood nearby too, ready to tell me if Aro's thoughts would change. I was angry at myself for not being able to use my gift to predict the outcome of the meeting. I had no idea when I'd get my foresight back.

I stopped in front of Aro, "This is Daisy-May Cullen."

Daisy was glaring at Aro, but I felt that she understood the importance of this, as she didn't cry when Aro reached towards her. He lightly touched her and I saw his eyes widen as he heard all of the thoughts she'd had in the past month. Evidently, none of them were "I want to kill every human in sight", as he didn't try to kill her on the spot.

"Fascinating." He said, "Just...fascinating."

I began to step away from him when he spoke again, "Stop. You will hand the child over to me."

"W-What?" I asked. I thought he'd believed us. "You can't kill her! She's no threat!"

"I'm not going to harm the child." Aro assured me, "But I should like to keep her close for research. We want to know more about this."

I hand Daisy to Emmett, who immediately takes several steps back from the Volturi. With Daisy safely out of the way, I now step towards Aro. Closer than I would have dared if maternal instinct wasn't running through my cold veins.

"If you try and take my daughter, mark my words we will fight with our lives." I say in a low tone, "If you do one thing that could harm her, you will start a war."

Sooo drama ;) I wasn't totally sure how to get the Volturi involved...I figured they'd come into it at some point, and I thought this would be better rather than repeating the whole Volturi-try-to-kill-child thing that happened in BD2 with Renesmee. Hope you liked it anyways :)

As always, thanks for everyone favouriting, following, and especially reviewing! I love hearing your thoughts and feedback, and the ideas for Daisy-May's vampire gifts have been great! Keep them coming! :)

Thanks to guest reviewer Tia for pointing out my mistake of writing 'Renesmee' instead of 'Daisy' in the last chapter. Must have been more tired than I thought ;) It's been corrected now :)

Hopefully the next update will be soon as I'm already working on it! See you then :)
