Disclaimer, you know.

The rest of the day went on rather quietly. Dorothy had isolated herself from the rest of the group and eventually found herself in her and Alex's bedroom again and sketching. Trying to be as positive as possible in a negative situation she began whispering to herself.

"You know, if I get out of this alive, maybe I'll take up the violin, that's right Dorothy, positive thoughts." Dorothy whispered.

"I think the violin would suit you, your mother loved playing the violin when she was your age." Em said from behind causing Dorothy to jump.

"Auntie Em don't do that." Dorothy said setting down her pencil and turning around.

"Sorry dear, but Alex told me that you said you felt alone in this situation." Em said.

"And that's where this conversation is going to end, Mrs. Gale can I talk to your niece for a few minutes?" Rose asked walking into the room.

"Sure thing, maybe you can get her to see things differently." Em said walking out followed by Toto and pockets.

As soon as Em left the room rose waved her hand in the direction of the door and it shut and locked. She then walked over to Dorothy and helped her up out of the chair.

"Dorothy, I'm not going to lie to you, because in the end it has to be you to do it, but we will all be behind you when you fight him." Rose said.

"Rose when I have to fight him I don't want any of you there." Dorothy said.

"Dorothy I want you to see that you don't have to be alone." Rose said sitting down on the bed.

"I don't get why you guys keep saying that, why everyone keeps saying that." Dorothy said getting a little irritated now.

Rose said nothing, she simply motioned for Dorothy to sit down. Dorothy sighed and sat down next to her.

"You've had a troubled past, tell me what's on your mind." Rose said taking Dorothy's hand in her own.

"A while ago, I told them that I felt my mother and father would be upset with me." Dorothy said finding herself unable to contain it.

"Why?" rose asked both a little bit curious and a little bit worried.

"Because, my momma said to be a good girl, always make them proud, and now I have to kill someone." Dorothy said as tears formed in her eyes.

"It's not just someone, it's the jester, a man driven into his wickedness by his past, out of guilt, sorrow, shame and anger." Rose said.

"But he's a person like you and I aren't we supposed to try and be forgiving, try to get him a fair trial, not kill him, Momma and poppa would be very unhappy with these circumstances." Dorothy said.

Rose squeezed Dorothy's hand a little and smiled. She knew she couldn't lie to Dorothy, she had no idea what she truly was feeling. But when the jester abandoned her she felt alone like no one cared about her.

Rose
Mother cannot guide you
now you're on your own
only me beside you, still you're not alone
No one is alone, truly, no one is alone

Sometimes people leave you
halfway through the wood
others may deceive you,
you decide what's good
you decide alone but no one is alone.

Dorothy looked up at rose with tears in her eyes.

"I wish" Dorothy whispered

"I know" rose replied.

Elsewhere in the castle a talk between father and son was taking place between Alex and his father.

"Dad, I'm glad we are good terms with each other, but why didn't you ever tell me why you acted the way you did before all this?" Alex asked

"Because, my father, as I've told you, was stone cold if I ever knew a man of his nature, he raised me with a strict voice and glare like daggers, and in trying not to do what my father did, I allowed you to be raised the way I was, and now this all happens." Mr. Teak said placing a hand on his son's shoulder.

"And you finally realized what you needed to do right and what you were doing was wrong?" Alex asked as they passed by the bedroom.

"No, I realized that everything I did was wrong and I needed to make it right." He replied.

"Is there a difference? I mean with your father you were practically alone weren't you?" Alex asked.

At that moment his father stopped and sighed. While in Dorothy's room rose was still trying to comfort Dorothy.

Rose
mother isn't here
(Mr. Teak to Alex)
wrong things right thing

Rose
who knows what she'd say
(Mr. Teak.)
Who can say what's true?
Rose
Nothing's quite so clear now
(Mr. Teak)
Do things, fight things
Rose
feel you've lost your way.
(Both)
you decide but you are not alone

Rose
believe me, no one is alone.
(Mr. teak)
no one is alone, believe me

both
you move just a finger
say the slightest word
somethings bound to linger, be heard

(Mr. teak)
no one acts alone
careful, no one is alone.

Both
people make mistakes.
(Mr. Teak)
fathers.
Rose
mothers.

Both
people make mistakes holding to their own.
Thinking they're alone.

Rose.
Honor their mistakes.
(Mr. Teak)
fight for their mistakes
Rose
everybody makes
both
one another's terrible mistakes
witches can be right.
Giants can be good.
You decide what's right,
you decide what's good.

Rose.
Just remember
(Mr. Teak)
just remember

both.
Someone is on your side
Dorothy
our side.
Alex
our side.
(Rose and Mr. Teak)
someone else is not
while we're seeing our side
maybe we forgot
(all four)
they are not alone.
no one is alone

Rose
hard to see the light now
(Mr. teak)
just don't let it go
Both
things will come out right now
we can make it so
someone is one your side
no one is alone.

With those words Dorothy embraced rose tightly and Alex and his father shared a hug as well. Dorothy was reminded of her momma's dying words to her 'you are never alone' she began to feel the pain and the hurt of remembering them as she began to cry. Shortly after the door was forced open by Alex who ran over to Dorothy.

"I really hate seeing her cry like that, it means she's remembering." Alex said.

Rose simply smiled and sighed. She then took a box out of her pocket and handed it to Alex before waving a hand over Dorothy causing her to fall asleep. She still was crying even in her sleep.

"I've put her to sleep, when she wakes, give her that, tell her that she'll know what to do with it when the time comes, there's a note in there, but other than this I am not allowed to intervene, the jester knows you are all here, soon war will begin." Rose said before getting up and leave the room.

Alex sighed and looked at his father who nodded followed after Rose. Alex set the box down on the desk and returned to his chair.

Well I used the original/longer version of no one is alone from the original Broadway production of into the woods so copyright goes to Sondheim. There will be one more musical number and it will be at the end of the story in the last chapter. Anyways…

What had Rose left for Dorothy? Will she leave as soon as she wakes up? And will the jester attack them directly? Leave a guess, leave reviews if you'd like.
