Dorothy did not awaken until rather early the next morning. The sun wasn't anywhere close to rising yet and she could only assume everyone else was asleep. She could only hear Alex's Toto, and pocket's breathing. She looked at Alex and noticed a box in his hand. As Dorothy reached for it she immediately found her wrist being tightly grasped by him.
"You little trickster." Dorothy said kissing him on the cheek.
"I've been awake since you stopped crying, which was about an hour ago, I knew that sooner or later you would be awake." Alex said releasing her wrist.
"What's in the box?" Dorothy asked
"Rose left it for you, said you'd know what to do with it when the time comes, she also said there's a card in there, but I really don't like feeling it gives off." Alex said handing it to her.
Dorothy took the box and undid the ribbon that was wrapped around it. As she opened it she was surprised to find a moon's tear on a silver necklace chain and a small card fell out as well. She glanced at the card before putting it in her pocket and undoing the clasp on the necklace.
"Aren't you going to read the card aloud?" Alex asked curiously.
"You know what this does, I think we both know its purpose and her reason for giving me one." Dorothy said.
Alex shook his head and chuckled before helping Dorothy with the necklace. It was then that lily showed up at the door and walked in.
"I thought I heard some talking." Lily said.
"Why are you awake lily?" Dorothy asked.
"I could ask you two the same thing, I see my mother gave you a moon's tear, Thomas was right." Lily said.
"Yes, and I think we all know what I'm meant to do with it." Dorothy said sitting down on her bed.
"It's not hard to guess." Lily said starting for the door.
"Are the rest of you awake?" Alex asked.
"Who violet and Thomas? Well, I'm not sure violet is awake but Thomas is for sure." Lily said walking out of the room.
Dorothy looked at Alex and smiled. She felt that it was time and she made her decision. She then got up and grabbed the scepter before leaving the room. As she left however she found her wrist being grasped by Glinda.
"How long have you been waiting there?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"Since Alex woke up, I know what you're thinking about doing, and I'm not letting you leave." Glinda said.
"Glinda, what made you think that I was going to flee?" Dorothy asked.
"Because unless I lift the spell that I put on the slippers you aren't going anywhere unless you get yourself captured." Glinda said.
"Good point." Dorothy said looking away from Glinda.
"I see you got a moon's tear, Rose told me she'd given you one, I assume you know what she wants you to do with it?" Glinda asked.
"I've guessed." Dorothy said pulling away from Glinda's grasp.
Glinda nodded and said nothing she simply let Dorothy pass her at this point. Dorothy didn't leave the castle as she originally planned however. Instead she took the hallway to rose's little workshop or office, she didn't know what to call it as it was a little bit of both. The door was once more slightly ajar. As she pushed it open she was met with Rose, once more sitting at a desk and examining something under a large magnifying glass.
"Come in." she said.
Dorothy nodded and walked over to Rose. She seemed to be examining some sort of crystal that Dorothy had never seen in Oz or in her world. It was deep purple and shaped like an average gem not like the moon's tear.
"I want to thank you for the moon's tear, but why?" Dorothy asked curiously.
"Because, I want him to remember what he used to be, I can't approach him and do it, he won't get anywhere near me, odds are after all this we won't see him again, and I want him to remember what he was and look at what he's become." Rose said.
Dorothy said nothing, she couldn't think of a response. She simply sighed and sat down on a nearby chair. The more people talked about all this business the less she wanted to do it. She knew she really didn't get a say, she knew what the result would have to be for anyone to be happy. She would have to kill him and this time, it wouldn't be an accident. Dorothy sighed again and looked into the orb of the scepter. She then rummaged through her dress pockets she eventually pulled out her glasses and put them on.
"I'm actually supposed to wear these more often." Dorothy said.
"Your vision was damaged because you did something incredibly dangerous, trying to stop something, a storm I think, the ice storm." Rose said.
"Yes, long story, don't want to talk about it." Dorothy said sighing.
"Sunrise is happening." Rose said.
"Dorothy gale!" came the voice of the jester
Dorothy looked at Rose worriedly and got up before running out of the room and then out of the castle. Outside was the jester's face floating in the air over the town.
"Well this is a sight I haven't seen in a long time, what do you want?" Dorothy asked.
"I wanted to tell you that a storm is coming, and you'd better be ready, because soon war will begin, and now to avoid any awkward conversation that is all I have to say." The jester said as his face vanished.
Everyone in the town seemed to have been awakened by the jester's message. Looking at the sky Dorothy noticed once more that dark clouds were beginning to form over the land. These clouds weren't like the last ones, these clouds worried her deeply. She sighed and ran back into the castle. She soon found herself back in the parlor where Mr. and Mrs. Garrison were waiting with the others.
"I think, the entire town, heard that." Dorothy said panting
"We know." Thomas said placing a hand over lily's mouth.
Dorothy looked at Alex who got up and brought her over to a chair. As she sat down her head began pounding. She squeezed her eye shut and placed a hand on her forehead.
"Dorothy is something wrong?" Alex asked.
"Slight headache, I shouldn't have done any running, over exerting myself, I need some water." Dorothy said.
Lily finally pried Thomas's hand from her mouth and before getting up and pouring Dorothy a glass of water.
"Tom I'd really wish you'd let me have my say and stop acting like the boss of me." Lily said handing the cup to Dorothy.
"Every time someone lets you have your say you end up offending someone lily." Thomas said
"Would you two not argue." Violet said.
"I'm with violet on this one." Dorothy said taking a sip of water.
"I did say not to over exert yourself dear." Mr. Foreman said.
"Jon, don't rub it in." Dorothy said
"Sorry." Mr. Foreman said chuckling.
"Dorothy, maybe you should go get some more rest it's still early." Em said.
"No, I'm fine, I'll be fine." Dorothy said.
"Dorothy?" Came Annabella's voice.
"Yes Annabella?" Dorothy replied.
"How have you been?" Annabella asked.
"Aside from being sick I've been good, I'm just glad none of you got captured."
"We were surprised that the jester never sent an attack." Locasta said.
"Well we don't have to worry about the jester sending an attack so long as we're here." Angela said.
"Sister dear, you really think that us being with Rose will stop the jester from attacking us?" Cassandra asked.
"The jester doesn't want any possibility of harm coming to Rose, it's likely that he'll leave us alone so long as we're here." Dorothy said.
"Rose, honey, is something wrong?" Mrs. Garrison asked turning to her daughter.
"I think, I think I need some air." Rose said leaving the room.
Dorothy opened her eyes and quickly got up and left the room without saying a word. She followed rose outside and onto the path where they had taken their stroll a few days before. When they got to the cliff rose sat down on the bench and began crying. Dorothy sighed and sat down next to her.
"Rose?" Dorothy asked worriedly.
"I still care about him, no matter what the people of Oz think, he is the man I fell in love with all those years ago and I don't want what has to happen to happen." Rose said.
"I don't either, and the more his morality causes him trouble, as well as bringing you into the picture, the harder I find it is to have a reason that would justify killing him." Dorothy said.
"He's chatted with you before, showed you his past, hasn't he?" Rose asked curiously as she wipe some tears from her face.
"His parents died in an accident, his sisters experimented on him, and yes he's shown it to me." Dorothy said.
"he's not really bad, and I don't think his sister turned him into a jester for an experiment, she did it out of spite, because of the incident in the hall of time, when she stole the hour glass, she never got a chance to know love, something that would have saved her from the path she took, the jester, vowed to find some magic to make me well again and it angered her and out of spite or jealousy she changed him with that curse." Rose said.
"And he was too embarrassed to ever face you again." Dorothy said looking up at the dark clouds forming over the land.
"And in his exile, his hiding, he went mad trying to gain the power that was taken from him." Rose said taking in a deep breath.
Dorothy looked at rose and let out another sigh. It was then that a loud crash of thunder caused both of them to jump. It was then followed by the screeching of flying monkeys. She looked around and realized in her haste to go after rose she had forgotten to grab the scepter. But she knew they weren't going to do any harm to rose, the jester wanted her, most likely as a captive at this point. She stood up and turned around just and Nikko swooped down and picked her up. She screamed having not expected it to happen so soon. As soon as they were a good distance off the ground Nikko changed course and started in the direction of the city. It was then that she heard the jester's voice ringing in her head.
"no harm will come to you if you behave, a storm is coming and war is going to begin, I just needed the right moment to capture you without any chance of rose coming to harm, sleep well." She heard him say just as she blacked out.
When rose returned to the castle alone it didn't take anyone long to realize what had happened. Once more Alex took charge of the scepter and it began glowing brightly. Now it was time.
Well this was an interesting. Why did the jester capture Dorothy again? What will Dorothy's first reaction be when she comes too? Leave a review,
