I'm back with chapter 60! Please R&R and I shall see you at the bottom of the page.
POV: Natsu, Lucy
Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail
"Dammit!" I turn around to try and catch Lucy who has been holding onto the back of my shirt only to see the top of her head disappear beneath the floor. It's as if quicksand had suddenly sucked her down, but I know very well who the coward was that took her.
"Missing something?" I turn around back towards Erigor just as Lucy and Erigor's henchman both emerge from the ground.
"Natsu," Lucy cries as she tries to fight off the fat green haired man who is holding her arms painfully behind her back. She's coughing more because of the growing smoke and I can feel my own lungs itch as the heavy smell begins to make me feel lightheaded.
"LUCY!" I cry already ready to fight down as many Eisenwald members as I can, but just as I take a step forward something wraps up my legs and ties my arms and legs down. I'm on the floor before I even realize what happened as I struggle against my restraints.
Lucy's face twists in pain as the man pulls a little harder to keep her from moving and that only angers me further. I keep from struggling against the tight restraints because I know well enough that any wrong move from me can have them hurting Lucy further. With them holding her down as they are is as equal as them holding a gun to her head. Their powers could definitely kill her within seconds if they wanted to, and the last thing I need is to provoke them.
Whether they wanted her or not, they would definitely not think twice of hurting her just to spite me further.
"LUCY! NATSU!"
We all look towards where the voice came from and watch Laxus race towards us with Loke and Jellal right behind him. They all cough from the thick smoke but stop a few feet away from where I'm lying on the ground completely defenseless.
All three men's eyes widen at the sight before them as anger quickly overtakes their features. Loke is the first to take a furious step towards us with a dark determination in his eyes at the sight of Lucy being held forcibly against her will. Erigor instantly pulls his scythe around and holds it dangerously close to Lucy's neck making us all instantly freeze.
This is what I meant about them not thinking twice on hurting her just to spite me, but now it also pertains to the others.
"Another move and her head goes rolling," Erigor threatens while pressing his scythe a bit harder against Lucy's neck making her whimper in fear. I can see tears already streaming down her cheeks as she closes her eyes tightly while a trickle of blood makes its way down her neck.
"How the hell did you get past the Thunder God Tribe," Jellal asks as he helps Laxus hold back Loke, "Weren't they supposed to be keeping watch?"
Dark laughter emits from the crowd of Eisenwald member surrounding behind Erigor and I know that nothing good is about to come.
"You mean these guys," one of the members ask before he and a few others drag out three bodies before letting them fall heavily a few feet away from me. The three Thunder God Tribe members lie unconscious before me looking completely beaten up from no doubt a harsh fight, "They put up a good fight," the same man with Egyptian looking clothing continues, "But in the end we overpowered them."
"Evergreen! Bixlow! Freed!" Laxus yells after his comrades, but none of them even twitch at the sound of his voice. Thankfully from where I'm lying on the floor I can see that they're all still breathing meaning that they're not dead.
While the guys' attention is on the fallen Thunder God Tribe members, I shift my gaze over back towards Lucy. Erigor still has his scythe pressed against her neck, but now he seems to be whispering something in her ear that has her looking far more terrified than before. Silent tears stream down her cheeks as she slowly moves her eyes towards me.
Erigor looks over at the man wearing Egyptian clothing and nods slightly making the man smile and raise up his right hand. I notice that the man has black inked tattoos on his fingers and thick black ribbons seem to be streaming from those tattoos. That's when I notice that he's the one that has me tied up meaning that it would be more difficult to get out of these binds than I thought.
Lucy's eyes widen in panic when one of the binds loosens up and wraps itself around my neck threatening to choke me as it gets hard to breathe. "NO," She cries while shaking her head, almost pleadingly, as she begins to struggle again, "Leave him alone!"
The man holding onto Lucy tightens his grip on her and Erigor grabs her hair and pulls it forcing her to look away from me and look at him. He whispers something else in her ear before letting her look back down at me and the look in his eye makes him look as if he's already won.
Please Lucy, please don't do something that you'll regret.
Natsu's eyes plead to me from where he's lying on the floor a few feet away. They plead for me not to do something that I am going to regret, but if I don't do this Erigor will have him killed and Natsu has a whole life ahead of him.
"Fine," I whisper only loud enough for Erigor to hear me, "I'll go with you."
Erigor smiles widely while whispering, "Excellent," into my ear before removing his scythe from my neck and allowing the man behind me to release me. Before Erigor releases my hair he pushes me hard causing me to fall to my hands and knees, "Rayule, release the fly," Erigor says while striking the butt of his scythe on the ground in front of me clearly to keep me from running off towards Natsu and vice versa.
I can hear Natsu cough after he's released and he calls me but I keep my eyes trained on my hands that are balled up under me. If I look at him now I might lose my resolve and change my mind in less than two seconds.
"L-Lucy," Natsu coughs trying to get me to look at him, "Lucy."
"Go on Princess, say your farewells to your loved one," Erigor says as he kneels beside me seeming to enjoy my misery.
"Lucy, whatever he tells you don't listen to him!" Laxus yells from where he is still standing along with Jellal and Loke. If only they knew what Erigor had even said to me in the first place?
"We know that they don't know the truth about you and its better that way, but if you're not careful I won't think twice about spilling the beans," Erigor had whispered in my ear while I watched Natsu struggle against his binds, "its best if you just come with us peacefully Miss Heartfelia. You wouldn't want your loved ones to get more hurt than they already have," I had looked at Natsu at that time watching as one of Rayule's ribbons wrapped itself around Natsu's neck beginning to strangle him. I had tried to fight against the man's hold but Erigor only ended up grabbing me by my hair and whispering harshly to me, "If you deny we'll kill you and your lover boy along with the rest of those Fairy Tail flies, but if you agree to go with us we'll let them all go," how could I say no to a threat like that?
"Damn this!" I look up in time to watch Loke charge his way towards us.
He holds his right wrist with his left hand as it begins to glow brightly before he allows a beam of light to explode into the group of Eisenwald members behind me. More smoke picks up around us with the second explosion making it even harder to breathe as I cough viciously from where I'm on the ground. I can tell that fighting has begun around me, but the smoke and dust is so thick that I can't even see a foot in front of me.
I try to stand but I stagger a bit as I watch flashes of light flash from somewhere within the cloud of smoke and dust. The image of Loke and his glowing hand has my mouth growing dry because I know very well that the only people that have powers like that are poltergeists. Did that mean that Loke was one?
Another explosion to my far left has me stumbling as I try to stay upright. I'm completely disoriented and I know that if I don't leave sometime soon I'll probably suffocate to death. Even with this thought I don't know where to go. For all I know I could run into one of the Eisenwald members and be taken without the others even realizing it.
Determined to try and find a way out, I push my way through the smoke towards where I believe the exit could be at. I trip over a few pieces of debris, but otherwise I don't fall or crash into anything as I continue to make progress. I quicken my pace when I hear a few voices calling out my name because it is a bit hard to tell who the one calling out for me was.
Without realizing it, I crash into a warm body and bounce away as the startled person whirls around to face me. He doesn't even try to see who it is before he shoots a ball of magic towards me.
"LUCY!"
Something hard pushes me sending me to the ground as my previous attacker runs away in fright. I'm forced off the floor as a cool hand swiftly leads me through the smoke pulling me along towards who knows where. It isn't long before we're outside where the clean air enters my lungs making it a bit better to breathe.
I wrench my hand away from the stranger as I cough out all of the smoke from my lungs while clutching my chest feeling every breathe burn my esophagus. There's also the fact that I've lost a bit of blood due to the small cut I got from Erigor's scythe earlier. If I wasn't careful I could easily faint from my anemia.
Once I recuperate a bit I look up towards the person who helped me and I almost stop breathing from shock at who it is.
"K-K-Kageyama?"
Said raven haired male smiles at me from where he stands only a few feet away from me. He looks more ashen and beaten than the last time I saw him at the Fairy Tail headquarters which in truth hadn't even been all that long ago. Either way it still felt as if I hadn't seen him in over a century.
"I thought you were locked up? How did you get out?" I ask, my voice sounding hoarse from all the smoke and dust I inhaled.
"Erigor busted me out when they were transferring me to Lamia Scale," he says while rubbing his chest through the inside of his jacket, "I was inside when Erigor had you and Natsu captured. I was waiting for a good time to save you when your friend with the orange hair decided to show his true colors."
"So he is a poltergeist," I say feeling the color drain from my face, "He's like us."
"You finally accepted it," he says and I simply nod feeling numb all over, "Bounty hunters usually have poltergeists working for them to fight other poltergeists seeming as we're more dangerous due to our powers. Since poltergeists are on a whole other level than regular astral bodies it only makes sense that they would have our own kind fight against us."
"But I don't get it, how could Loke be a poltergeist? He's my best friend. I've practically known him my whole like. How…" I don't finish my question because at that moment Kageyama falls to the ground groaning in pain, "KAGEYAMA!" I cry as I kneel beside him, "What's wrong?"
He opens his coat to reveal a gaping hole near where his heart should be. Particles of light that look almost like glitter slowly lift away from the wound, "Damn that bastard, he got me good," Kageyama groans while covering up the wound again, "Well, I guess better me than you right?"
"The man that attacked me earlier," I murmur while looking at Kageyama, "He was aiming for my heart, wasn't he?" Kageyama nods, a simple smile adorning his lips, "Why did you take that shot?! You should have just let it hit me! Then all of this mess would be over!" I yell while hitting him in the shoulder.
"Trust me kid, it wasn't all for you," he says with a dark chuckle, "I've had enough of this miserable life anyway. I think it's time that I take my leave."
"No, you can't," I wail while clutching onto his jacket, "You just can't go."
He smiles and pats my head affectionately as I continue to halfheartedly hit his shoulder, "On that day that you came seeking for answers I told Natsu that he couldn't save you," he says sounding calm and that only scares me further, "I said that no matter how hard he tried he was going to end up losing you. Truth is I was just talking about myself. I had once been a hunter who had fallen in love with a girl who was a poltergeist and no matter how much I tried to save her in the end I just lost her to the hand of another hunter. Because of that I cursed the world and somehow became a poltergeist as well and it wasn't long that I joined Eisenwald, but now it's time that I reunite with her." I look up at him as he cups my cheek with his cool hand and that's when I realize that he's starting to fade away, "What I told Natsu is true, he can't save you, but that doesn't mean that you can't save him."
"I don't know how," I say as he continues to fade away.
"You'll figure it out somehow, but until then you have to be strong." A blast from the school has me looking towards the school but Kageyama makes me look at him again and I can already clearly see the grass under him reflecting through him like a looking glass, "You have to run Lucy. Don't let Eisenwald get a hold of you. Run as far as you can and whatever you do don't look back."
With that he pushes me lightly and I get to my feet feeling my heart ache for my fallen friend. I know well that I can't help him and as much as I want to just sit here and keep him company I'm sure that it won't take long before I'm caught again. If that were to happen him sacrificing his life for me would have been for nothing, and I can't possibly let that happen.
I turn to leave but I stop as I feel the cold air around me begin to bite at my face and hands while a thought strikes my mind, "Kageyama, you once asked me what was worse, being forgotten or being left behind," I whisper while looking down at him, "I still can't answer that question because both paths are undesirable," he nods understanding it well, "But until I can answer that question on my own know that you'll always be remembered. I promise that I will never forget you."
For some time he stays quiet looking surprised, but eventually his peaceful smile returns looking almost relieved, "Thank you Lucy," and with one last smile I turn and race off towards wherever my feet will lead me to.
Just like Kageyama had instructed, I don't look back as I run through the freezing night while fresh hot tears pour out of me like heavy rain. Not once do I look back so I don't get to see the tears streaming down Kageyama's face or the final farewell he whispers before disappearing forever.
Now I really am all alone.
So I know there's a certain someone out there who might try to track me down and strangle me to death because I killed Kageyama, but it had to be done. He has suffered enough as it is, but I'm still sorry for killing your dreams (You know who you are).
Anywho, I updated this chapter as fast as I could and thankfully it's only been four days. I was going to update this chapter on the same day as chapter 59, seeming as I felt bad for leaving you at a cliffhanger again, but it got too long so I had to postpone updating until today. I hope you all enjoyed this emotional chapter and heads up, more drama and secrets are going to be revealed in our next chapter. Hint Hint, it has to do with Lucy's mom...

And to my Fantabulous Reviewers...
- FDsecretart = Yes, cliffhangers are love, cliffhangers are life... my new motto, and once again I'm sorry, but I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and hopefully you enjoyed this one as well.
- Pika. cutie93 = It's kind of hard to explain if you haven't seen the anime Another, but one way you can think of it is that while, let's say, your 'real' body is at the hospital lying in a comatose state being cared for by doctors and nurses who don't know you your 'astral body' is out wandering around with all of your loved ones giving them little room to think about your real body back at the hospital. They never realize that your 'astral body' isn't really you but just an image of you so this messes with their heads making them forget things that they should clearly remember. If it still confuses you I recommend you go and watch Another since I'm sure you'll get a picture of what I mean. Plus it's an amazing anime! Also, I'm glad that you're enjoying my story.
- blazingpyro606 = Whatever it is you knew I'm happy that you knew even though I don't know what you know you knew.
