33. Three Become Four

Eight long and stressful hours later, I held my baby sister in my arms. She was beautiful, amber eyes sparkling up at me through thick lashes. Her hair is ivory black like Alice's, and her rosy lips remind me of our mother also. She's perfect, and I feel privileged to be able to call her my sister.

There was nothing wrong with her when she was born, despite Alice's condition and being almost four weeks early. Maybe it was vampire resilience, or maybe we got lucky but she was happy and healthy.

I reluctantly hand the baby over to Jazz and go to check on Alice, "How you feeling, Mama?" I asked.

"Perfect." She said with a smile, her eyes only on the new baby. I take the thermometer out of her mouth and find that her temperature is still above 102, but at least it's slowly coming down.

"What are you going to name her?" I asked.

My parents exchanged a look. Alice smiled at me, "We'd like you to name her."

"What?" I asked, surprised.

"You were amazing Daisy." Jazz told me, "I don't know if we would have gotten through it without you."

"And you are the reason she's alive." Alice pointed out.

"But...I don't know what to call her!" I exclaimed.

"You don't have to decide right now." Jazz said, "Take your time and choose whatever you like."

"As long as it isn't Mary." Alice said, pulling a face.

I laughed, "Not Mary, I promise." I look down at her smiling face, "Her name is Phoebe."

My parents liked the name and it became official. My baby sister, Phoebe Kate, fit right in to our little family.

The next day, the rest of the family finally managed to get home. They all fell in love with Phoebe just as fast as we had, and with a bit of Carlisle TLC Alice began to get better.

"She looks just like you, Alice." Bella commented, holding Phoebe in her arms.

Alice smiled, "Hopefully she gets her personality from Jasper then."

"Well if she turns out anything like her big sister, she'll be fine." Jazz said, putting an arm around me, "You should have seen her, Carlisle, she was a perfect little doctor."

I shine with the pride I feel coming from him. I love than I could impress my parents, and disappointing them is what I fear the most. But I don't have to worry about that, not yet anyway. For now, our family is complete, and I can't even imagine a time when any of us could be disappointed.

~o.O.o~

A few weeks pass peacefully in the Cullen house hold, and we all settle into life with yet another new arrival. Esme and Carlisle dote over their third grandchild, and Edward and Bella fuss over their second niece. Emmett falls for Phoebe the same way he did for me, and I can tell they'll be just as close.

Phoebe loves me. I wouldn't tell my parents, but I'm sure that I'm her favourite. Maybe it's just because I played such a big part in her creation and her delivery, or my maternal instinct that stemmed from my gift, or maybe it was none of that, but I loved her just as much. Alice lets me feed her and carry her round and dress her up in cute little outfits because she was too tired to do so. She had almost recovered now, but it had hit her hard being so ill whilst delivering a baby.

"Sit still, Phoebe." I told the baby lying on the bed in front of me, trying buttoning her into a white dress with a crimson bow on it whilst she squirmed around.

Today all our friends were coming over to see the new baby. The house was packed up and we were moving tomorrow, so this was the last chance I would get to see my school friends.

"How are my two beautiful girls doing?" Jazz asked, entering the room through the same window.

"Almost ready, Jazz." I told him, neatening the bow.

"Mom says Peter and Charlotte will be here any minute." He said. I smiled, happy that Alice's gift had finally come back after the pregnancy.

"Okay, we're done." I said, picking Phoebe up.

Jasper led the way downstairs and sure enough as soon as we'd walked into the living room there was a knock at the door and Peter and Charlotte arrived. They were soon followed by other various family friends including Dana, and then my own friends turned up, late as always.

"Daisy!" Poppy said, rushing over, "Where is she, we wanna see her!"

I lead my friends over to Alice, who's holding Phoebe in her arms, "This is my niece, Phoebe Kate."

They coo over her for a while and then we go in search of something to eat, stealing a pizza and taking it out in the garden to eat so we can chat and, sadly, say our goodbyes.

"Things are not gunna be the same around here without you, Daisy." Sarah said.

"Yeah, who's gunna come with me to see horror movies now?!" Freya asked.

"Not me!" Sarah and Poppy said together.

We laugh, "I'm gunna miss you guys."

"I wish you didn't have to go." Sarah said.

"Me too." I said.

"You can always come live with me." Poppy joked.

"Thanks for the offer, but I don't think I could ever leave my family." I said, "I go where they go, and vice versa."

Freya nudged me and I looked up to see Max stood a little way off.

"Oh, crud." I said. I was so not ready to say goodbye to Max.

"Go talk to him." Poppy urged, and Sarah pushed me up.

I went over to Max and he took my hand and for a while we just walked until we were in the forest far from the house. He stopped and looked down at me and I knew this was goodbye but I didn't want to say it, so I just wrapped my arms around him and let silent tears drip down my cheeks.

"Don't cry, Daisy-May." He said softly, "Don't be sad."

"I can't help it." I whispered, "I love you."

"I love you too." He said, kissing my cheek, "Here, I have something for you."

He handed me a little box and I opened it, revealing a silver heart, engraved with the letters M and D. Max takes it out and fixes it onto my charm bracelet, which is pretty full by this point.

"Even though we aren't together, we can always remember each other in our hearts." He said, "And I will always love you, Daisy, my first ever love."

I cry again and eventually we say goodbye and he leaves. I'm a mess when I make it back to my friends and have to go through goodbyes all over again.

"Text us all the time, okay?" Sarah said, hugging me.

"Yeah don't forget about us!" Freya added, hugging me too.

Poppy threw her arms around me, "Goodbye, flower friend. We'll never forget you."

Guests start to leave until it's just the family and Peter and Charlotte left in the house. Alice and Jasper had asked them to stay behind, and now they were going to announce why.

"We've already asked Esme to be a godmother to Phoebe." Alice said, "And we'd like her other godparents to be you guys."

"We'd be honoured!" Charlotte said.

Jazz put a hand on Peter's shoulder, "You two have always been there for me, and we consider you more family than friends. We'd love for you to be part of Phoebe's life."

Later, when Peter and Charlotte leave to, I ask a question that's been plaguing me since godparents were brought up, and it's regarding my own godmother, "Is Rosalie ever coming back?"

Alice sucks in a breath and Jasper frowns at me, "No, Daisy."

"Don't you think we ought to at least tell her about Phoebe? She is her aunt, after all." I said.

"Rosalie isn't a part of our lives any more." Jazz said.

"Well, she should be." I said, "You ought to forgive her."

"What she did was unforgivable, Daisy." Alice said.

I look to the others for help but they all share the same look, agreeing with my parents. "She's family. She's my aunt and my godmother. She's your sister, your daughter." I turned to Emmett, "She's your wife."

"If she cared about us she wouldn't have plotted against us like that." Emmett said, "If she cared about us so little, why should we care now?"

I stared at him, unable to comprehend how even Emmett, who loved and doted on his wife, could give up on Rosalie. I'd known they were all mad at her, but I thought they'd eventually forgive her, that eventually she'd come back.

"How can you say that?!" I demanded, "You all love her, I know you do."

"Not any more, Daisy." Carlisle said, "We forgive a lot in this family, but not this."

"Well I love her." I said, "And I think you're all crazy. Rosalie is still our family, even if she made a mistake."

"That's enough Daisy." Jasper said.

"No, it's not!" I said, my voice rising, "You can't just push her away like she never meant anything to this family. I won't let you."

"I said that's enough!" Jazz yelled.

My stare turned into a glare. My parents hardly ever yelled at me, and when they did even I could agree that it was justified. But not this - I wouldn't let them just yell and push me aside simply because I wasn't an adult.

"Rosalie will always be a part of my family." I said, "The fact that all of you could be so cold and unforgiving just shows me that she is a better person than any of you. I don't care what you think. I hate all of you!"

"Go to your room, Daisy." Jasper yelled, his face boiling with rage.

I stormed up the stairs, slamming my door so hard the walls shook. I could hear them yelling at each other downstairs but I put my headphones in and blasted music until I couldn't hear them. I'd meant what I said, I didn't care what any of them thought any more. That was the day I stopped caring about disappointing my parents. In fact, they'd disappointed me so much that from then on it was my absolute mission to disappoint them as much as I could.
