The pre-teened Laney Penn was tossing and turning in bed, after her best friend and crush told her seriously that his first dream as a kid was actually to become a Military solider, she's been having bad dreams of what could happen to him repeatedly and how it would change everything around her.
The first dream was about her and Core when they were 18, seems like Core joined the Military right after high school thanks to the box of letters in the passenger seat next to her. She was wearing a white dress and it seems like it began to be Laney's favorite dream every, till she opened the cruch door and the sound of the sad trumpets from the Military band. The flowers fell out of her hands.
It was two weeks after the day she turned eighteen
All dressed in white
Going to the church that night
She had his box of letters in the passenger seat

The seen changed to guns rang a few shots before a preacher said to let everyone to bow there heads and pray, then the congregation started to sing the saddest thing Laney has ever heard as they handed her an folded flag, other then the orange beanie in the box with his letters, that's all she has felt to remember him by. The guns shot again, but it felt like the bullet went through her heart. Why did he go? It's like it I'm looking at the horizon or that I'm standing int he background. Hopefully Laney could just wake up from this dream.
The preacher man said let us bow our heads and pray

Laney was shaken awake she opened her eyes to see Core there. "Lanes, are you alright? You were crying in your sleep, I was worried to I woke you up." Laney just hugged her crush and cried a little bit more. "Please tell me you won't sign up for the Military Core, I had a horrible dream that you joined them and everything but, but..." Corey just rubbed circles in his best friend's back. "Don't worry Lanes, my dream now is to become a Rockstar. You don't have to worried about anything, alright?" Laney nodded as her best friend smiled. "Good, don't worry Lanes, it was all a dream." Laney then smiled. "Thanks for the help Core."
