Disclaimer: I do not own the Avengers, only their kids :). I'm writing this story with Kelda1771. She has her own account, so you guys should go check it out. She's good. I apologize for taking so long to update. I'm taking AP this year and have no time to actually write. I promise that the updating should get better. Thanks for reading and following. :D
Bryce:
Coul smacks into the mat with a wince. Alex stands over her with a smirk on her face, barely out of breath. She holds out a hand and helps the blonde to her feet. Coul rubs the back of her head and grimaces.
"I don't understand how you can beat me so easily every single time." Coul complains. Alex smiles and Nate laughs before responding for his sister.
"We have been training in several forms of martial arts since we were six. Something about needing to defend ourselves. You guys have no training. So thats why Alex and I are training you because, frankly, you suck." Coul and Piper look offended while I just laugh. I know I suck, there's no point in denying it. I'm a scientist, not a warrior. My first round in the ring with Nate ended after two seconds. Coul and Piper are fairly athletic, but I have a steady relationship with my couch.
"Coul, you are thinking too much. You need to let your body flow naturally. It automatically knows what to do. Just flow." Alex fixes Coul's technique. So far, Coul has lasted the longest, a total 12.5 seconds before one of the twins takes her down. Piper managed to stay in for 11 seconds. My record is 4 seconds. Alex and Nate don't seem too concerned with teaching me how to fight; I'm just the scientist after all. While Alex faces off with Coul again, Nate takes on Piper. They square off and start circling each other. Piper looses patience first and goes after Nate. He dances away from her, landing a few blows. She steps away from him and Nate uses the opportunity to go after her. He lands quite a few painful-looking blows before pinning her to the mat. But out of nowhere she twists from his grasp and flips him over, pinning him beneath her. The room goes silent for a moment. Even Alex and Coul stop fighting and Nate just stares at Piper with astonishment. She looks pleased and surprised with herself. Nate is the first to speak
"How did you do that, Piper?"
"I'm not entirely sure. I just... did it." Piper stands up and offers Nate her hand. Nate takes it and stares at her for a few more seconds, before turning away and addressing everyone else.
"Right. So we are going to continue with our training. That was quite remarkable, Piper. Good job. Coul, Alex, go back to sparring. Bryce, its your turn. Piper you can rest." I groan and haul myself to my feet and take my stance opposite Nate. We start circling and the next thing I know I'm lying flat on my back on the mat. Nate stands above me with his hand out. I take it and we spend the next pain-filled hours training our bodies to fight.
Nate's POV:
I slip out of Director Fury's office, head reeling from what he just told me. I have to have the team field-ready by tomorrow. We started training two weeks ago. Banner just barely mastered being able to defend himself and Coul still can't throw a knife straight. Piper refuses to believe that she needs to learn any of this stuff because according to her, she's a genius, not a spy. Not to mention none of them are capable of being able to go undercover without screwing something up. And the whole team bickers like a bunch of Kindergarteners wanting the same toy. Alex almost strangled Piper the other day because she wouldn't stop mouthing off. I admit that I really like Piper, but she is the only person I know that can piss everyone off with one word. I can't believe that Fury thinks we're ready for an assignment. This is going to be disastrous.
I face off against Piper in the last training session before we go to meet Fury. She narrows her dark chocolate eyes and concentrates on how to best beat me. I smirk and wave my hand in a 'come and get me' gesture. She grins devilishly and leaps toward me, long brown hair flying behind her. I go to sidestep her, but as she lands, she spins around in a deadly arc and lands a kick to my ribs. I stumble off balance and she lunges towards me, but I dance away before leaping at her and tackling her to the ground. I pin her down, but Piper just grins and twines her legs around my waist and jerks her body so that I fall to the side. In an instant she is pinning me down. I know there is no use in trying to get her off me, she has me down. Her brown eyes glitter mischievously and I can't help but think how beautiful she is. Suddenly she sits down on my chest and asks, "After the mission, do you wanna go on a date?" I'm taken aback by the question. I've had a massive crush on Piper for as long as I can remember knowing her, but I didn't think she even noticed me. And even though, she asked me out instead of the other way around, I kinda like it. Piper's unorthodox like that and that's one of the things I like most about her. I grin and reply.
"Sure, if we survive the mission." She grins at that.
"Well, Nate. I'm wondering if I should let you up. I did pin you down." She smirks, but leaps gracefully to her feet and holds out a hand. I take it and she pulls me to my feet.
"That you did. I hereby pass you in hand-to-hand combat." She smiles and bows dramatically and thanks me with a wink before walking over to Coul. I shake my head and start toward the showers looking forward to the warm water. Especially since the meeting after is going to be long and boring. I feel a tingle of excitement as I think about my upcoming date with Piper, but I quickly shoo away the thought and start thinking about our team again. I know Piper has these weird sort of brain bursts where she can do impossible things, and Coul has these bursts of super human strength. Fury has been running some tests and says that he'll tell us what they've concluded about it, but on the bright side Alex and I have been more connected than ever!
When I finish my shower and get dressed I'm just in time to grab my phone as its buzzing. I pick it up and am informed to report to the meeting. Heading down the hall I see Piper and Coul walking into the meeting room, and I bring my pace to a trot and catch up with them.
"Hey Coul, Piper. Are you guys ready to be bored to death by Fury?" Coul cracks a smile and Piper giggles. Piper is still giggling when we reach the meeting room and sit in our seats. Fury gives Piper a death glare, made all the more intimidating since he only has one eye.
"Something funny, Miss Stark?"
"Not to you it isn't." Piper responds cheekily as she rolls her eyes. I groan inside. It would be great if Piper would stop pissing off Fury. He stares cooly at her before getting to the main part of the meeting.
"As you all know, we are training you to become field operatives like your parents. According to Alex and Nate you are ready for your first assignment. A man by the name of Jasper Esposito has been smuggling drugs into the country and selling them illegally. Your mission is to gather intel about his operation and execute a bust during one of his deliveries. Now I know this isn't the sort of mission you thought it would be, but we thought it best to start you out slow. Mr. Banner is to remain in a surveillance van and transfer information to Strak who will be guiding you through this mission. Stark is the long distance intel gatherer and will gather updates and be ready to talk you through it if anything goes awry. Coul, Alex, and Nate are going to get in close and gather the information of when and where the bust takes place. Do not do anything to compromise another member of the team and don't do anything stupid, understand?" Fury looks directly at Piper while he says this. I want to think that it's unfair to judge Pipes before the mission starts, but then I remember she IS a Stark and they tend to cause trouble. And Piper loves trouble; she was practically born into it. "Now, your handler is Agent Jacob Hill. He will take you out and give you your supplies and you are to follow his orders at all times, am I understood?" Everyone murmurs their consent. "Good, now get going." As we get up and leave I hear Fury mutter, "And good luck." I smile, knowing that Fury does have a heart and follow my sister and the rest of the group to go to our first mission, and most likely suicide.
