Chapter 4
On Monday Madison walked into school feeling very nervous. She didn't want to see Tom because she was still so embarrassed and hurt. Luckily Mason made it his duty to make sure she was okay and walked her to her first class. Madison sat down and was relieved that she had Calculus first because she quickly got absorbed into the problems, and was able to forget about Tom, if only for 55 minutes.
Mason on the other side of school was worrying about his sister. He couldn't believe what a jerk that guy was, and mostly he couldn't forget the heartbroken expression on Madison's face that weekend. It took him back to when they were little, and if she was upset, Mason would do whatever he could to cheer her up, and she did the same for him. Jane must have noticed that something was on his mind, because she poked him with her pencil. Mason turned to face her and she whispered, "Are you okay?" Mason shrugged, and whispered back, "I'll tell you after class."
After class Mason waited for Jane to gather her things and then the two walked out of class together. "So what's going on?" Jane asked as the two walked down the hallway. Mason sighed and replied, "It's Madison. Well you know how she's been spending time with that footballer player Tom?" Jane nodded and Mason continued, "Well last Thursday he finally asked her out on a real official date, and of course Madison said yes and was excited, especially this would have been her very first date. Then on Friday she got all dressed up, was super excited, then went to wait for him in the living room. The pompous ass never showed up! He stood her up! No call, texts, emails, nothing! She was devastated, and I think still is." Mason finished sadly. "Wow what a douche, that's awful. Poor Madison. Is there anything I can do to help?" Jane asked genuinely. "I'm not sure, I'll let you know though. Thanks for listening and your compassion. This is my class so I'll see you later." Mason said, entering your next class.
By 4th period, Madison had yet to see Tom and she was grateful for it, she wasn't ready to see him yet. In her class before lunch Madison had a test that was really difficult. She stayed behind a few minutes to finish up and check her work. Once she was in the hallway to the cafeteria, the hallways were deserted. Madison was walking past an alcove when suddenly someone grabbed her arm. She was too surprised to react, and she quickly found someone pulling her into a deep kiss. She opened her eyes and saw it was Tom, at this point he had his arms wrapped around her back. She put her hand on his chest, and looked up at him, "Tom, what do you think you're doing?" Tom looked taken aback at first, then just smirked, "I'm just kissing a hot girl, the same girl I've been kissing for days." He then reached into kiss her again, when she stopped him once more, "What happened on Friday? We had a date and you never showed up, and you didn't even message me to cancel." Tom rolled his eyes and gave her a lopsided grin, "Oh that? I just went out to the movies with my boys, besides I think for now it would be best if we kept us a secret." He then leaned in to kiss her, and this time Madison caved in and let him. He soon started deepening the kiss, darting his tongue into her mouth, and groping her butt. Madison wasn't particularly comfortable with this, but she figured this was what he wanted to she held her tongue.
In the cafeteria, Mason was starting to get worried, he had seen no sign of Madison and she wasn't answering her phone. Roderick noticed Madison's absence too and asked, "Where's Madison?" Mason frowned and replied, "I don't know, I'm getting worried, she isn't answering her texts." Jane put her hand on his arm reassuringly and said, "Hey I'm sure she's fine. Maybe she just had to hang back in class for a minutes, or she could be in the bathroom, I can go check." Mason smiled, "That would be great thanks J." Both Mason and Jane blushed at that nickname Mason had just called her.
Jane got up from the table and headed to the bathroom that was just outside the cafeteria. She went into the bathrooms and found Madison there fixing her high pony. "There you are! We were all wondering where you were." Jane said as she walked up to her. Madison smiled, "Yeah I just ran into Tom, I'm sure my brother told you what happened." Jane nodded and replied, "Yeah, he filled me in. I'm so sorry Madison." She gave Madison a sympathetic smile. Madison checked to make sure all the stalls were empty and then she turned to Jane. "Can I tell you something?" Madison asked nervously. "Of course. We're friends, you can tell me anything. Madison took a breath and started, "Well I was on my way to lunch when someone grabbed my arm and started kissing me. I pulled away and it was Tom. I asked him what happened and he shook it off, said he went out with friends. The last part was the weirdest, he said that he thinks we should just keep us a secret. Then he started passionately making out with me." Jane was captivated by the drama that high school brought. "Wow," Jane said slowly, thinking everything over, "So what are you going to do?" Jane asked. Madison ran her fingers through her ponytail and sighed, "I don't know. I mean it's nice having some boy attention, and I've never had someone express an interest in me the way Tom does. But he stood me up, and my brother thinks he is a jerk, I just don't know." she looked down to the floor, and Jane had no idea what to say. Finally she went with the best advice she could think of, "Just do what you think is right." Madison perked up slightly and hugged Jane. "Thanks Jane, I owe you."
After breaking away, Madison had figured out what she wanted to do.
