Chapter 7: You and I
The moment the sunlight hit Masamune's eyes, it roused him from his deep sleep. He blinked his eyes several time in order for the blurriness to go away. When his vision focused, he finally noticed his surroundings. The walls of the room were a pure, white color. Everything decorated around the room was mainly an emerald green color with occasional different colors. Immediately, he realized this was Ritsu's room.
In his arms was the brunette. The ravenette's arms were around the other with Ritsu facing him, since they fell asleep in that position. He buried his head in the other's soft tresses. He took a deep breath and inhaled the angel's scent. For some reason, he loved the aroma the other gave off, it always drove him crazy. He remembered their passionate love-making together last night. He knew he shouldn't have initiated it, but he couldn't stop himself. When he's around the Prince of Heaven, he loses his sense of reality and falls into a fantasy where he could love the other without restriction.
Masamune removed his face from the brunette's hair to stare at the other's sleeping face. It was utterly adorable and beautiful. The ravenette noticed many features Ritsu had that he never had a chance to see. The Prince of Heaven had lovely long eyelashes. A cute, but perfect nose. Pearly pink plush lips that were slightly open complimented his beauty perfectly. A tender smile decorated the Prince of Hell's lips. He couldn't ask for anyone more wonderful to be his soul mate. Ritsu was simply perfection.
Masamune raised one of his hands to caress the other's cheek. There was so much he wanted to express towards the other. He knew he could never truly be with the Prince of Heaven. If anyone were to find out, their families would be disgraced. Angels and Devils would be angered to know that their princes were soul mates. Despite their truce, hatred and resentment still ran deep between the two races. Masamune never had a particular feeling for angels, but saw them as neutral. How was he even supposed to hate angels, if his own soul mate was one? He couldn't…
Even though they were on Earth and far away from Heaven and Earth, there can't be a difference between them. They cannot allow themselves to follow their hearts, but be in control. They mustn't sin again. Their forbidden love must not come into fruition. Some soul mates simply aren't destined to be together. That was the truth the two had to accept, no matter how painful it was for them.
Masamune tightened his hold around Ritsu. He could feel the other's body against his. The angel's smooth and soft body against his felt just right. The ravenette knew he would never be able to fully comprehend the full experience of being soul mates, but right now… this was good enough. Because this will be all they both can ever know.
He knew if he was around the brunette any longer, he would do something stupid. He reluctantly released his hold around the other and slowly got of the bed. He noticed the pile of clothes they threw to the floor. The ravenette picked up on his pants and put them on. He just held the rest of his clothes and went to search of his room. Before exiting the angel's room, he looked back sadly for a moment before continuing forward.
…
Emerald green eyes slowly opened. The bright sunlight blinded his eyes causing Ritsu to shut his eyes tightly for a few seconds before opening them again. He looked around the room and noticed the whiteness of it with hints of emerald-green scattered around the room to put color into the dull room. There was no doubt it was his room.
He turned to look next to him. Masamune was no longer here. Ritsu knew they had fallen asleep together last night after what occurred last night. Pink splashed his cheeks due to embarrassment at the thought of night before, but pangs of pain could be felt as well knowing what they had done together only led them further into sin.
Ritsu pulled the blankets closer towards himself. He felt the need for warmth, as if he had lost his source of heat. He closed his eyes. He simply didn't know what do. Why are the fates playing with his life? Why did they have to be so cruel? He wasn't even allowed happiness… Only sadness for his immortal life.
The Prince of Heaven snuggled into his covers. A faint, musky smell lingered in the sheets. The brunette breathed it in. The smell of the other brought a sense of comfort. Ritsu wished that everything could end right now. Having to be here in this house, so close, yet so far hurts deeply. As if the one thing you have come to treasure and love has been taken away from you and you try to take it back, but never can.
The brunette hated to have such miserable thoughts. He wanted to clear his mind of the darkness that has been embedded in his mind lately. He pushed away the covers and sat up at the edge of his bed. He could feel a slight pain sear through his waist. He attempted to stand, but his knees were rather wobbly. Ritsu spotted the clothes on the floor and picked them up. He looked around the room and noticed two doors. He assumed one of them would lead towards the hallway and the other to an adjourning bathroom. He picked the one closest to him and luckily it led to the bathroom, so he didn't have to walk much more.
He turned on the water to a warm temperature and allowed it to fill the tub. A shower would be a faster, but too painful for his hips. Once it was full, he settled into the tub and allowed the warm water to relax his body. He leaned his head against the tub and let his arms rest on the sides. The heat from the water allowed the pain in his hips to begin to subside. He closed his eyes and allowed his mind to wander off.
After a while, his body no longer felt pain, so he could stand and take a shower to clean his body. Once he was done, he stepped out and grabbed a towel hanging on the racks and wrapped it around his waist. He noticed that his bathroom supplies were already set up, so he brushed his teeth and washed his face before leaving the bathroom and getting changed.
Ritsu knew that today would be the start of their hunt for the Halfling wandering Tokyo. He walked towards the window to look outside and analyze the weather. Right now, from the bright blue sky and the blooming cherry blossoms planted by the house, he could tell it was currently spring. The weather appeared to be just right with a gentle breeze. He walked back over to his closest and picked the clothes that would be comfortable for this type of weather. He chose a light, olive-green long-sleeved hoodie and a white fleece vest and paired it with a pair of tight, denim light blue jeans. Simple, but looked very nice on him.
The brunette exited his room and began to wander around the house. As he walked through the halls, he would peak into each room in order to figure it out. He noticed that his bedroom was on the end at the right side of the house when he entered the living room. He realized that there was at the other end of the living room led towards another hallway. He guessed it was considered to be Masamune' side of the house.
Ritsu did not feel like venturing down that way, so he decided to stay in the living room that was connect to the kitchen through another door. He went to the kitchen in hopes of finding some food as it happened to be already 12. He looked through the cupboards and the fridge, but could not find anything to eat. Perhaps, he would have to go find some place to buy food and stock their cabinets and refrigerator. Since there was no food to eat, he walked out of the kitchen.
Awkwardness immediately permeated the air when the brunette spotted Masamune coming in towards the living room the same time as him. The ravenette wore a gray v-neck, a sleeveless ox-blood red zip hoodie that was unzipped, and a pair of black fitted jeans and a simple gold necklace with a rectangular charm.
Ritsu looked away in fear losing control of his mind. He needed to think and do what was right. "M-masamune-san…I umm Good afternoon."
Masamune hated how the other looked away from him, but he understood. He knew if he did look into the other's eyes, he wouldn't be able to control himself as well. "Ritsu-san… Good afternoon. I hope you have slept well?"
"I… yes." The brunette was not sure what to say in order to cease the tension between them. "Umm… There is nothing in the kitchen to eat… I suggest we go find a place nearby to find a place to stock our food…"
"Ahhh… I see…." The ravenette wished they could be at ease with one another, but there was no way they could be. "Shall we go out then?"
"Y-yes…" Ritsu then realized that they had no way to pay for their necessities without any money. "Umm… what about money?"
Masamune reached into his pockets and pulled out two credit cards and a small pile of cash. He handed one to the Prince of Heaven. "We have been given a credit card to use whenever necessary. We can also go the bank to get cash. I have all the information. I'll give it to you later."
Ritsu nodded and said, "I guess we should go out now…"
Masamune agreed and the two went to the entrance of the house and put on a pair of shoes. The brunette wore a pair of brown lace-up boots and the ravenette wore a pair of black lace up boots. Silently, the two left the house and walked down the streets. As they wandered around to familiarize themselves with the area, a heavy silence remained between them. Neither knew what to say to one another. A lingering sadness wrapped around them. Both couldn't escape from the dreadful fate that surrounded their life. Their thread of fate trapped them in their brokenness…
Eventually, the two found a quaint, quiet café to satisfy their rumbling stomachs. Life on Heaven and Hell resembled that of Earth. Masamune and Ritsu found it easy to adjust to their new surroundings. What existed on Earth most likely existed at home too. Now, they must simply be used to their new surroundings and allow themselves to be able to navigate through the area without getting lost, while searching for the Halfing and controlling their heart, mind, and soul around each other.
The two sat down at a café and ordered some food. Ritsu ordered a cup of coffee and a bowl of chicken alfredo pasta, while Masamune ordered a cup of coffee as well and a turkey sandwich. Awkwardness settled between them once more. Both simply couldn't find words to converse with one another. Both had so much they wanted to ask and say, but couldn't find the words to express it.
Masamune gazed at the other. Ritsu was staring out the window watching the scenery occurring outside the café. Due to his preoccupied mind, he didn't feel the intense stare directed towards him by the other and continued to watch mindlessly. The ravenette wanted to find out everything he could about the other. He wished he could've been born and angel just to be with the brunette. Everything would've been much easier for them… He might as well savor their time together now… because after this they will return to their normal routine…
The Prince of Hell wanted to break this silence that separated them. "Ritsu-san." The Prince of Heaven turned at the mention of his name. "Y-yes." The brunette couldn't help but feel nervous around the other. A soft pink blush splashed his cheeks as he felt the other's eyes on him.
The devil said, "Tell me about yourself."
"O-oh ok." The question had taken the angel by surprise. "Mmm…Well what would you like to know?" The brunette murmured quietly, avoiding the other's gaze by staring at his lap.
"Tell me about your family." Masamune sincerely wanted to know about the other.
"Mmm… As you already know, we are the rulers of Heaven. I have a father named Atushi, a mother named Kiyomi, an older brother named Keisuke, and an older sister named Natsumi. I'm the youngest in the family. Being the baby of the family, my parents and my siblings had a tendency to be overprotective." He smiled softly at the thought of his family. "They are always there for me no matter what. When I'm in trouble, I know I can depend on them. I know that I'll always have them." The brunette looked up from his lap to the other.
The ravenette brought the cup of coffee to his lips and took a sip. He said, "That sounds like a wonderful family."
"They are… I couldn't be who I am without them…" Ritsu missed his family already. The thought of family made him wonder about the devil's. He asked, "What is your family like?"
The Prince took another sip of his coffee before settling it back down the table. He thought for a few moments before answering. "My father Hikaru can be rather strict, but I know he cares for me. He wants to me to become a good ruler in the future when it is time. My mother Mizuki can be rather stern as well because she expects perfection from me, but she does so because she loves me. My younger sisters Keiko and Kiriko are precious to me. They rely on me even to this day. I'm glad to have seen them grow up to be wonderful women." His gaze concentrating on the outside, but his mind somewhere else.
Yet, despite saying all those words, Ritsu could sense a tad of sadness. Unconsciously, he reached forward to cover the other's hand. He just wanted to comfort the devil.
Masamune was stunned to see the other's hand over his. He looked at the brunette and could see emerald eyes staring at him with gentleness. Right here, together, he felt calmed by the angel. He was extremely tempted to reach over the table and bring the prince into a kiss, but he controlled his heart. Instead, the ravenette brought the hand on his to his lips. The brunette instantly blushed bright red. "M-Masamune-san!"
"Thank you," the devil mumbled along the angel's hand.
Despite being very quiet, Ritsu could hear the note of appreciation. It only made his cheeks glow even redder. The ravenette couldn't help but think it was utterly adorable. He began to chuckle at the other's reaction, but instantly stopped. He released the other's hand and his eyes widened as did Ritsu's.
The Prince of Heaven asked, "Did you feel something?"
The Prince of Hell nodded his head. "I could feel a weak presence of a devil…"
"A devil?" Ritsu shook his head. "I felt one of an angel…"
"An angel?" Both were utterly confused by the other's answers. Could their senses have been confused? What they know for sure is that the Halfing had just passed them. One of the people out on the street was the one they were sent to search for.
The two immediately stood up from their seat, paid for their meal, and ran outside in attempt to trace the scent somewhere. A Halfling doesn't have a strong presence since their blood is mixed. It would be difficult to truly pinpoint the child even if in close proximity to them.
Masamune and Ritsu walked around the streets trying to find somewhere that could give them a clue on this person. At several places they could feel a lingering aura of the Halfing. The two didn't stop looking no matter how tired they became. If they gave up, it could take even longer to find the Halfing. They wandered through many places, like bookstores, cafes, arcades, clothing stores. Endless places held a weak presence of the mysterious child. Yet, they realized as they went on, everything was leading towards one direction. The two thought it would be a better idea to simply move forward instead of entering building after building.
One place held the strongest atmosphere so far, yet even then it was very weak. However, the presence must have accumulated through constant and long hours of staying in the certain area. Masamune glanced around the area and noticed a gate. He went over the gate to see if there would be any clue as to what this area was with Ritsu following right behind him. The night had already fallen, making it difficult to see clearly. From the front of the gate, he could make out the huge building. He wondered if it was a school.
"Sakuragi Private High School…" Ritsu read off the plague on the wall. He looked towards the ravenette, who returned the look.
"Looks like we're going to be working here from now on…"
Hehe time to start working at school now. I'm still wondering what they should do at the school. Definitely not going to be students though. If you guys have any preferences, I wouldn't mind hearing them ^^ I wanted this chapter to be more of a moment for them. I hope you enjoyed this!
Please review! I really love hearing your thoughts on this and it keeps me motivated!
