A/N: now chapter 11!
PLEASE READ BELOW OR ELSE YOU WILL BE CONFUSED!
I decided that I wanted to insert this chapter before I return to talking about their past. I will be posting this as chapter 12 for now, but I will switch it to chapter 11 the next time I update (next Friday/Saturday). This chapter reveals a few things regarding their past, but still keeps many things hidden ;) It shows what happened after they remembered everything about their past and how they react. I'm sorry for the long wait as usual, but I am doing my best to update. For now, please enjoy! :)

Chapter 11: Never Meant to Be
The bright shell of light gradually dissipated and unwrapped the two soul bonded lovers. Yet, only silence emanated from them. Heaviness settled in the atmosphere. No words were spoken between the brunette and ravenette, only tears flowed down their cheeks. No words of love, no cries of happiness, no expression of joy, only a silence and sadness threaded the air.
Tsukiko and Anri did not understand why the princes were reacting or more specifically not reacting in this situation. Most would be crying from joy and rushing to consummate their souls together. Yet, there was nothing. Only a bitter silence. Before either sage could reach out and say anything, Ritsu broke away from Masamune and ran out of the soul bonding chamber. The ravenette did not make a move to chase after his soul mate and only stood in his very spot with his face downcast and both of his hands in bounded into a tight fist.
The sages wanted to say something and ask what was wrong, but they felt as if they could not utter a single word. As if something was keeping them from asking anything.
"Tsk!" The Prince of Hell broke the deafening and crushing silence in the chamber. He looked towards the exit and ran out. He did not spare a single glace at the sages, but they could tell he had a mission to fulfill before they could settle down and talk about their past.
…
Masamune ran down the numerous halls of the extravagant castle the two sages lived in. He turned corners and corners, yet he could not find his beloved. Through their powerful soul bond, he could feel the bitterness, sadness, and heartbrokenness that the other felt. In the return, he knew Ritsu could feel those exact emotions coming from him as well. His mind could not concentrate on anything. He could only feel a haze of emotions controlling his actions. He was searching and yearning. His heart cried in utter pain and in utter need for his other half.
Unable to his soul mate, he paused around the corner. Sweat poured down his skin and heavy pants came from as he tried to regain control of his breathing. The ravenette took a deep breath in order to calm himself. Feeling frantic and unable to control his mental state would not help in this moment. He closed his honey eyes and felt his surroundings. He knew that because they are soul bonded now, he could feel his beloved anywhere, no matter how far apart they are. The moment he felt his other half's presence, he rushed down the halls to find the nearest window and jumped out, allowing his black wings to spread out and carry him towards the location of his angel.
The dark skies rumbled and rain started to drizzle.
Once he neared where his love went, he landed softly on the ground. He withdrew his wings and slowly approached the Prince of Heaven. Masamune could see Ritsu standing near a river, just like the place they first met, with his head downcast and body shaking with tears.
The ravenette wrapped his arms around the brunette. Neither could say anything because they were both full of despair.
"Why…?" Ritsu whispered miserably.
Masamune could only tighten his embrace around the other. "You know I cannot answer that."
The angel broke away from the embrace and turned around. He screamed, "What are we supposed to do?! What are we?! Why do we have to go through this?! In the past, why were we born as-!" He fell down unable to continue anymore. Tears rampantly streaked down his cheeks.
"I can't answer any question about the past! I can't answer any question about the present! All I know is that I still love you even after all of that! I loved you in the past life despite of our truth! Can you not still love me too!" Even the devil could no longer control his emotions. His heart was on the verge of shattering already.
"YOU KNOW THAT I DO! How can I not love you?! I still love you so much! BUT how can we be together?! In the past and now, WE WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE!" Ritsu could only express what they were both feeling in that very moment.
Masamune dropped to the ground as well. He could not say anymore. He did not know what to say anymore. He didn't know what to do anymore. He could only allow tears to flow down harder and harder.
The darkening skies rumbled loudly and the rain only continued to pour down harder and harder. Both princes were drenched completely from the water and in their hopelessness. They didn't know what to do anymore… Their love had always been a sin….
Suddenly, Masamune leaped forward and pushed Ritsu onto the ground. He placed a hand lovingly onto the other's cheek. The brunette pressed cheek against the ice-cold hand and placed his hand over the ravenette's. Honey and emerald orbs stared deeply into each other. They both could see their own emotions reflected in the other's eyes. In their hearts, they already knew that their love would only repeat the heartbreak of their past. Yet, they just like in the past, they could only keep on loving each other.
"Why were we meant to fall in love like this all over again…?" That question constantly resounded in their heads. The two lovers wished fate could tell them why they were thrown into a twisted world of fate and love.
Masamune said softly, "You are the Prince of Heaven. I am the Prince of Hell. I love you and you love me, but now everything has changed. Even so, will you still love me? I will always love you, no matter who we are now."
Gently, Masamune leaned down and pressed a kiss to prove how deep his love was for the other.
Ritsu laid there stunned for a moment, but eventually returned the other's kiss with one that illustrated everything he wanted to say as well. He will love him even if they are not meant to be.
Love. Sadness. Bitterness. Hopelessness. Desperation. Desire. Anger. Heartbrokenness. Hope. Every emotion that would contradict emanated from them.
Their kiss gradually became deeper and deeper. Masamune bit the other's lip for permission and Ritsu opened his lips to allow the other to enter. The ravenette roamed every crevice with his tongue. He wanted no spot to be left untouched. He removed his had from the other's cheek and began to use his hands to feel the angel's body. He knew exactly where to touch in order to set the brunette's body on fire. Every whimper, every moan, and every plea pushed the devil to continue in his movements.
"M-masamune…" Ritsu could never resist the other. He always felt so weak to the other's touch, even in the past. He only wanted more till they were carved completely into one another.
"Let's always be one no matter what fate says…" Masamune whispered lovingly. Emerald eyes watered once again, but joy this time. "Yes… Please… Let me feel that we always will be…" Ritsu needed something to tell him that promise will be true for eternity.
Masamune dived in once again for another heated kiss. He will promise the angel that they will be together. If they could love each other in the past, they could love each other now. For them, love was never easy. In fact, maybe they were never meant to love each other, but they simply came to.
In the pouring rain, they could only feel each other. Every touch ignited their skin despite the freezing cold. Only the sound of their sloppy kisses, breathless moans, subtle movements, and pounding hearts could be heard between them in the midst of pouring rain and loud, rumbling thunder. Right now, all they wanted to hear was the sound of their resounding love.
A flame of love meant to last for eternity…Hopefully these sacred words will be fulfilled…
…
The next morning, the bright morning sun blazed brilliantly. The two soul bonded lovers laid affectionately in each other's arm under warmth of numerous blankets on a comfortable bed. After their love affair in the rain, Masamune carried the two of them back into the sages' castle and into a room always reserved for the royal family. Their love-making under the rain was not enough for either of them. The angel and devil needed more. They could not stop and wanted to mark each other till nothing was untouched by their love. The Prince of Heaven and Hell wished for every word and every touch to remain evident the next morning, the next week, the next year, the next century, the next eternity.
Even under all their love, they were scared. Even though they love each other, they still have their position as the Prince of Heaven and as the Prince of Hell. In the past and now, they cannot run away from the reality that their love is still forbidden. Even if they wished they could run away from everything, they can't. They were born into this position and it is their destiny to be who they are.
"Mmm…" Instead of Masamune waking first like normally, Ritsu arose first. A small smile appeared upon his lips because the brunette woke up to the one face he loved the most. To be able to be like this every morning, he wished it could be always. He knew inside that they could never be like this, but only dream of it.
He gently broke away from the loving embrace and sat up. He pushed knees up to his chest and rested his arm on his knees as a platform to rest his head on as he faced his other half. Numerous thoughts filled his mind. Last night may have been a wonderful reality, but now it seems to only be a mere dream. A dream he was scared that would fly away from him. He feared that everything could shatter in one second, just like their past together. In one moment, everything ended for them. Ritsu would not be able to bear it if it happened to them again.
"Is this a dream…?"
"Why would it be a dream…?" Masamune yawned and sat up as well. He pressed a soft kiss onto the other's forehead.
Ritsu chuckled, "How long were you awake?"
"Ever since you broke away and sat up." The ravenette placed his arm around the other's waist and brought the brunette closer to him. "This isn't a dream…It will never be…"
The angel leaned his head onto the other's shoulder and said, "Aren't you afraid? Everything could end in a matter of seconds, just like how our past did…"
"Unless someone slits our throats and burns our body into ashes, this will last forever. We are no longer weak like we were in the past. I am a devil and you are an angel. Our souls will always be together, no matter how much we are forbidden to be together."
Ritsu closed his emerald eyes and whispered, "I believe you…" He wanted this sweet moment to never cease. He wished they could sit here and be together in such a loving peace for eternity. It would be a beautiful forever. "Hey…"
"Yea?"
The angel raised his head and faced the devil. With a bright smile, he said, "I love you."
Honey eyes widened because of that unexpected statement, but softened with mirth and affection. "I love you too." The prince of Hell pushed the other down and began to kiss those plush pink lips senselessly.
Their stayed in their bed till the afternoon loving each other very very thoroughly. They wanted to make the most of every moment they could share together.
…
The sages wait for this moment for over a day already. They did not have the heart to interrupt the newly bonded, especially when every moment they attempted to approach the two princes, they felt as if there was an impenetrable bubble of love that blocked them. Tsukiko and Anri allowed for two remain in that world for as long as they like because they understood that once their stay here is over, they will return to their separate homes and remain apart from one another till the next mission or the next Day of Asteri. The sages wanted the two to be able to cherish these short moments before they have to return to their true reality.
Finally, the sages were able to approach the two princes and ask them come with them in order to talk for a bit. The two could see that the princes seemed uncomfortable about the subject that will be raised between the four of them.
The female half said, "We are glad to see that you are both very happy, but we would like to understand what happened in the bonding chamber."
The angel and devil glanced at one another and a tinge of sadness could be seen on their faces. Ritsu answered, "Not everyone has a happy past, but most have a happy present. For us, we have been granted neither."
Anri asked with curiosity, "What do you mean?"
Masamune sighed, "For us, our love has always been forbidden. In the past, we were never meant to fall in love and in this life, considering our positions, we were never meant to fall in love either."
Tsukiko and Anri could see that the mention of their past brought upon sadness and were about the cut off the subject, but the Prince of Heaven said, "As sad as our situation may be and I would prefer not to talk about it; however, it is important that we tell you two about it."
The male half scrunched his eyebrows and asked, "Why do you say that?"
Masamune answered, "We will tell you the story of our past. Not just our past, but the past of our fathers and mothers."
Both sages were utterly confused at this point. Tsukiko asked, "How could you know your parents' past?"
The angel responded, "In our past, our story interconnects with our parents and also several of our friends. We all lived during the same time period. However, normally one would only see their soul bond's face and everyone else's would be blurred, but we saw everyone's face clearly."
At the mention of that information, both the sages widened. They never heard in history of such a thing happening during a soul-bonding.
Masamune chuckled bitterly, "The lives we live now are true irony."
Ritsu could only give a sad smile. "Let us tell you our story of forbidden love, a curse, a separation, and lies."
