Chapter 13
"This place is enormous and deserted. The majority of the race is probably still asleep." He scanned the area with his sonic screwdriver and studied the results "We need to find Amy and Rose. Looking for heat signature anomalies."
He really wanted to see Rose again. He was starting to get worried. What if something had already happened? What if Rose had gotten hurt?
What if he was too late?
"But Doctor, how can all this be here? I mean… these plants." Nasreen asked.
"Must be getting closer to the center of the city." The Doctor answered, waving his hand at her.
"You're sure this is the best way to enter?" Nasreen said cautiously.
"Front door approach. Definitely. Always the best way." The Doctor said excitedly.
Alarms began to sound, announcing the fact that there were hostile life forms in area 17.
They were soon surrounded by many Silurian warriors. His hands shot up. "We're not hostile! We're not armed!"
Nasreen followed his example and her hands shot up in the universal sign for surrender.
"We're here in peace." He said. A Silurian shot gas out of their gun, and the Doctor's eyes began to feel heavy.
No, no. Not gas!
He soon found that his knees were giving out, and he fell to floor, and everything went black.
The alien creature stepped forward with a needle. "Don't you come near me with that!" Amy yelled at the creature.
The creature removed his mask to reveal a very lizard-like face. He pressed a button.
"From the clothing, the human females appear to be more resistant to the cold than the male." The creature said.
"We dressed for Rio!" Rose yelled. The creature ignores her and Rose groaned. Why did no one listen to her? Was she like the Doctor? Did she just have a face that no one listened to?
"Leave her alone!" The man strapped to another table yelled. "You got me!"
"Decontamination complete." The creature said. "Commencing dissection."
"No! You've got me!" Rose yelled. "I'm far more interesting than her!"
The lizard man turned to look at Rose. What was she doing?
"Yeah, yeah!" Rose said. "I took in the power of the time vortex and lived."
The creature stepped towards her. "That's right! And that's not supposed to happen! But it did!" Rose laughed.
The lizard brought his dissection tool closer to Rose. "Rose, no!" Amy yelled.
"Just leave the other two alone. Let them go, and I won't fight you." Rose whispered. The creature stared at her.
"The yellow haired seem to be more caring than the red haired." The lizard man said.
"Hey!" Amy yelled.
"Extraordinary. You are willing to stay so the other two can go? Wouldn't you rather leave." The lizard… thing said.
"Yeah! At least I've got some decency!" Rose yelled. Before the creature could dissect her, something came on a speaker and he left.
"Yeah! And stay out!" Amy yelled. Rose felt the clamps around her wrists and ankles release and she fell forward. Amy caught her. "Woah."
Rose raised her hand to her face and pulled it away. It was wet. She had been crying.
"Are you alright?" Amy asked. Rose nodded. "That was incredible. I could never be that brave."
"Thanks." Rose whispered. And she truly was thankful. Thankful that she wasn't alone down here and she had Amy. But she didn't want Amy to have to be down here, Rose was just happy she had someone down here with her
"How did you get that?" The man said, gesturing to the button in Amy's hand.
"What? Never picked a lizard man's pocket? Now, c'mon!" Amy smiled.
The threesome ran out of the room. Once they were outside the man, Mo was his name, began to question them.
"Do you it was an alien? Do you think there are more of them?" He asked.
"Don't know." Amy answered.
"But we know someone who could have some answers. We need to get back to the surface and find him." Rose told him. "I wonder where this leads." She looked down a tunnel.
"Maybe it's a way out!" Mo said happily.
Rose pressed the button to reveal a boy inside a chamber. It was Elliot, Mo's son.
The Doctor was strapped to an upright table being "scanned." He was letting out little moans.
A Silurian warrior, Restac, and the Silurian doctor, Malokeh, were discussing Alaya and her being in the Restac's same "gene chain."
"I'm decontaminating now." Malokeh announced.
The Doctor's eyes grew wide and his mouth fell open. "What, decontaminating? No!" But Malokeh ignored him and turned on the machine. The Doctor screamed.
"It's all right, it won't harm you. I'm only neutralizing all your ape bacteria." Malokeh soothed.
"I'm not an ape. Look at the scans. Two hearts. Totally different. Totally not ape! Remove all human germs, you remove half the things keeping me alive." The Doctor said before another scream forced its way out of his mouth.
Malokeh slowly turned off the machine. The Doctor slumped forward and began breathing heavily. Respiratory Bypass system or not, he was still short of breath.
"No!" Restac protested. "Complete the process!"
"That's much better, thanks." The Doctor panted. He swallowed hard. "Not got any celery, have you? No. No, not really the climate. Tomatoes, though. You'd do a roaring trade in those. I'm the Doctor." He introduced himself and looked to his left to find Nasreen strapped to another upright table. "Oh, and there's Nasreen. Good."
Malokeh scanned Nasreen and her eyes fluttered open. "Oh… green man." She sounded surprised.
"Your weapon was attacking the oxygen pockets above our city." Malokeh told him.
"Oh, oxygen pockets, lovely." The Doctor smiled, but then frowned. "Oh, but not so good with an impending drill. Now it makes sense."
"Where's the rest of your invasion force?" Restac asked him, stepping closer.
"Invasion force? Me and the lovely Nasreen here? No, we only came for the humans you took." The Doctor said, thinking of Rose. "To offer… the safe return of Alaya."
Restac's eyes widened.
"She's safe."
"You claim to come it peace, but you hold one of us hostage."
"Wait, wait. We all want the same thing here." The Doctor said when Silurian warriors began to surround him and Nasreen.
"I don't negotiate with apes." Restac hissed. "Now, time for your execution."
Nasreen stared at him, her eyes widening fairly quickly.
"Right… yes." The Doctor whispered.
Rose stepped into another chamber, closely followed by Amy and Mo.
"These chambers are all over the city." Amy observed. Rose placed her hand on a switch and one of the glass tubes lit up to reveal an alien inside.
Mo gasped and Rose quickly shut it off. "They're not moving." Mo whispered.
"Maybe they're asleep." Amy suggested.
"Let's have another look." Rose said. She turned the light back on, and the glass slid up. Rose carefully stepped inside the tube.
"Rose, what're you doing? Get out of there." Mo whispered urgently.
"Some sort of suspended animation." Rose said.
"Hyper-sleep… like in those sci-fi movies." Amy said.
Rose laughed. "I guess we are in a sci-fi movie now." She knelt down and touched a round plate. "I wonder what these are." The aliens were all standing on them. She looked up to find a tube, possibly to the surface. "Some sort of transport disc. This is how they got to the surface."
Mo slowly grabbed a gun from the alien, and Amy and Rose did the same.
Rose shut off the light and the threesome made their way down the tunnel.
The door opened at the end and Rose's eyes widened as she looked into the pit below. Thousands of the alien warriors stood, in their suspended animation, ready for battle. "We don't stand a chance." She breathed.
They slowly backed out of the room.
Restac and her warriors led the Doctor and Nasreen to another room. Malokeh was going on and on about how Restac was not allowed to do this while Restac was countering that it was her job to protect the safety of their people.
"Oh, lovely place. Very gleaming." The Doctor observed.
"This is our court." Restac announced. "And our place of execution."
Amy came in from one side of the room pointing a gun at Restac. "Let them go!"
"Amy, there's a girl to rely on!" The Doctor yelled happily.
Rose entered from another side, also pointing a gun while Mo entered from the third door.
"Rose!" The Doctor yelled, relief flooding his voice.
"Hey!" Rose yelled back. She looked very comfortable with the gun in her hands, which the Doctor did not like. When did Rose learn to hold a gun? Torchwood… well, parallel Torchwood? Maybe. It may have been saving their lives, but he still didn't like it.
Oh, you know you do. The rebel whispered.
"Shut up." He muttered. The voice stayed silent.
"Your covered all three ways so don't try anything clever." Amy warned. A Silurian stepped closer to Amy, while two others came closer to Rose and Mo. "Now let them go, or I shoot."
Restac came closer and snatched the gun away from Amy. Another grabbed Mo's.
One warrior tried to grab Rose's gun, but she ducked and knocked the Silurian warrior off of her feet. Rose had the creature pinned. "Five years of Torchwood training comes in handy." Rose joked. The Doctor cracked a smile.
Two more came up behind Rose and grabbed her arms, forcing her to the ground. She dropped the gun in the process. "Don't you touch her!" The Doctor yelled.
The warriors yanked her up and led her over to the Doctor. When they were close enough, he snatched her away from the Silurians and crushed her to him.
"You're alive." He whispered.
"I'm alive." She agreed.
"Alright Restac, you've made your point." Malokeh said. The Doctor pulled away from Rose but still kept a firm grip on her hand. He took a split second to marvel at the fact that their hands still fit together perfectly.
"Go back to your laboratory, Malokeh." Restac hissed. "This is for the military."
Another warrior led him out. "Prepare them for execution." Restac ordered. Two warriors pulled Rose and the Doctor apart but thankfully chained them to the same pole. The Doctor grabbed Rose's hand and she squeezed it.
"You did great, even if I didn't like the fact you were so comfortable with a gun." The Doctor told her, smiling.
"I wasn't, I was just trying to hide it. I've always hated guns." Rose told him, giving him her famous tongue-in-tooth smile that made the Doctor go light headed. He let out another stupid giggle and once again had to slam his mouth shut.
"I'm glad you're okay!" Rose yelled over to Amy.
"Thanks! But… lizard men?" She asked.
"Homo-reptilia, Also known as Silurians. They occupied the planet before humans… and now they want it back." The Doctor answered.
"After they wipe out the human race." Nasreen added.
"Silurians! That's it! I knew I recognized them!" Rose yelled triumphantly. "We had our own run-in with them in the other universe. Bit different, a lot smaller tribe, but still about the same."
"Yeah, right. I preferred it when I didn't know." Amy finished.
The warriors finished chaining them up and pointed their guns at the hostages.
Restac put a transmission through to the surface people, which happened to be Rory, Tony, and Ambrose.
They had a quick discussion before Restac put them on screen. "Amy! Rose! Doctor!" Rory exclaimed.
"Mo! You're alright!" Ambrose said excitedly.
"Of course I'm alright, love!" Mo yelled. "I found Elliot, I'm bringing him home!"
"Amy, I thought I'd lost you!" Rory said,
"What? Because I was sucked into the ground. Gosh, your so clingy!" Amy joked.
"You should have seen the Doctor! He was in hysterics!" Rory laughed, and the Doctor's face turned bright red. Rose looked at him and smiled.
"Uh… not to interrupt." The Doctor tried to change the conversation. "Just, quick reminder to stay calm."
"Show me Alaya!" Restac demanded, and Rory, Tony, and Ambrose's faces all suddenly turned to worried expressions. "Release her now or we will kill your friends one by one."
"NO!" Ambrose yelled. "We didn't start this!"
"Just let Rory deal with this Ambrose, eh?" The Doctor suggested. Rose looked at the projection worriedly. Something had gone wrong.
Ambrose leaned towards the screen. "We're not doing what you say anymore!" She yelled at them. "Now give me back my family!"
"No." Restac hissed. "Execute the blonde." She ordered.
"What? No!" The Doctor yelled as Rose was snatched away and his grip on her hand was broken.
"No! Don't you dare touch her!" He yelled. Rose was shoved, violently, into the middle of the room "Listen, we'll do what you want just DON'T HURT HER! Rose!" The Doctor started struggling with his bonds. Rory and Nasreen started protesting with him.
The Silurians shoved Rose roughly to the floor. "Take aim!" Restac ordered.
"Doctor!" Rose screamed. Amy screamed at Restac to let Rose go.
"Don't do this!" The Doctor yelled.
"Fire!"
