Shorter than normal. Sorry.

Chapter 15

The Doctor looked at Amy sadly as she happily reported that they had escaped before time ran out. She had just lost the love of her life, and she didn't even know it.

Rose… something said in the back of his head.

Rose? Why would he need roses? The Doctor shook his head to clear his thoughts. Right now he needed to focus on the shrapnel he had pulled out of the crack.

The Doctor sent Amy inside the TARDIS, creating a hasty story about a jammed lock.

Slowly, the Doctor took the wrapped piece of shrapnel out of his inside jacket pocket and un-wrapped it.

He stared at the blue piece of wood, and held it up to the sign on the TARDIS. It fit perfectly.

And suddenly the Doctor realized that the TARDIS wasn't going to be a box anymore.

Rose was running. Running was all she knew. Rose didn't know where she was, or who she was, for that matter. All she knew was that there was only darkness. Darkness and running.

In this darkness there was no time. She was running for an eternity, but only in one minute. In one single minute, she had lived a thousand lifetimes. The weight of the darkness was crushing her. Not only physically, but mentally. The never ending darkness was crushing her soul.

And it hurt. It hurt because she felt like she was being forced into the ground. It hurt because there was no ground, even though there was. Because everything was nothing, and nothing was everything.

Rose had to stop. She just had to. He lungs were screaming, her feet were aching, and white spots were dancing in and out of her vision as if they were saying now you see me, now you don't.

And she stopped. The moment her feet stopped moving, she felt a blade run up her back, and she was running again. Na ah ah. A woman's voice chided. No stopping here.

Rose had heard that voice before. The voice of the disembodied woman. The sound that sounded like a knife running down metal, a voice that was sane, but sounded like the insanity would break forth any second. Rose could feel the wrath of the voice, even though it spoke in an eerily calm tone. The voice taunted her, yelled at her, and she hated it. Hated the darkness.

But the darkness was all she had ever known.

I am the void. The voice said. I am all powerful.

As if to prove her point, the 'void' took the floor away, and Rose was falling, until her feet hit the ground. She felt her ankle bend, she heard the bones snap, and she screamed.

Oh, that must've hurt. The voice said tauntingly. I think you need a doctor.

Something in Rose's mind cracked, like a dam would if there was too much pressure behind it, and one little trickle of a memory spilled forward. Nothing much, but it gave Rose hope.

It was a memory of her and a man in a pin-striped suit, sitting on a hilltop, just talking. Just talking and having a good time.

The man, what is his name? Rose thought. She liked this man, this man that made her happy.

Oh, yes, yes. That injury is terrible. Would you like to see a doctor? I could make one for you, the perfect doctor. The Doctor.

The dam cracked some more and two names rushed forward. "Rose and the Doctor." She whispered. She automatically knew her name was Rose, and that the man in the pin-striped suit was the Doctor.

Rose searched her mind for anything related to the Doctor. The dam cracked some more, and this time more than a trickle spilled out, this time it was a continuous stream of memories. The Doctor, the leather clad Doctor, grabbing her hand and telling her to run. The leather clad Doctor regenerating in the pin-striped Doctor. Her and the Doctor on New Earth.

And the dam broke.

All the memories spilled forward like a tidal wave, and Rose stopped running and looked up. She remembered everything they had done together. She felt the fear of losing him, the sadness when he had regenerated, and the horrible pain she had felt when she was dying. She had died.

Rose spoke to the void. "I know what you are. I know what you can do. But I've never heard of the void having a consciousness."

Why have you stopped running? The void hissed. Rose felt the pain on her back again, but did not start running.

"I said I've never heard of the void having a consciousness." Rose said again.

You have travelled through me so many times, child. You picked up bits and pieces. Energy of the void. The void said menacingly. And you, so powerful that you could survive holding the power of the time vortex. You, so young and so innocent. I could use you. I took that energy from you, shaped it to my liking, and from that I was born, the consciousness of the void.

Rose's eyes widened slightly. She had created this monster.

And suddenly there was pain. She felt like there was a blade running up her back. She felt like something was hitting her broken ankle, and something bashing her head it. Rose felt something stabbing her in the side, and she collapsed, but the pain did not cease.

It was painful, so painful. "No, stop." Rose whispered, tears running down her cheeks. "No more."

The pain did not stop.

"No more." She mumbled, and stronger this time. "No more."

Rose's voice slowly grew stronger as she said "no more. No more. No more." She crawled up to her knees, even though the pain didn't stop. "No more." Rose was pushing herself to her feet now. "No more." And now she was standing. There were little beams of light shining out of the floor, the walls, and the roof.

"No more." Rose looked up.

No, what are you doing? The void yelled.

"If I created you." Rose said darkly. "I can destroy you."

Rose looked around at the void, and saw the lights shining through, growing brighter by the second. She smiled to herself.

NO MORE!" She screamed, and everything around her shattered.
